Once you get it on (needs a pull tab on heel), this is the most comfortable super shoe I've tried. The upper fit is immaculate and there's no weird arch (alphafly) or bulbous forefoot (metaspeed sky+), or ill-fitting ankle (adidas pro 3). The cushion and geometry works beautifully to give you a rolling but fun and bouncy ride with excellent response and stability. Shines at marathon pace and faster but is also excellent for uptempo long runs. My first two runs were 11mi and 15mi, no problem; no break-in needed. Wider footed people may struggle as the forefoot is snug, though the upper has some give and did not cause blisters at all. This is THE racer for runners who want to feel fast without the mechanical or unstable feel of many other similar shoes. Not since the Clifton 1 has Hoka released such a revolutionary shoe. The Rincon 3 has taken up the torch for the tradition the Clifton 1 began for lower priced trainers. When I first took my Rocket X 2 out for a training run I felt like I was on pogo sticks. The bounce in this shoe is none I had ever experienced in a running shoe before. I felt like I could run forever. I definitely run faster than in any other shoe because it just propels you. I have been wearing Hokas for 8 years (Bondis and Cliftons) since they were recommended by my podiatrist after a toe issue I had and I haven't worn any other brand since. As a seasoned marathoner I normally run in the Bondi but thought I would give the Rocket a try for my (full) marathon I ran earlier this year. I wasn't sure how I would hold up but after doing my long 18 and 20 milers pre race I was amazed and knew I could pull it off. I've owned many shoes before. From Adidas Boston 12s to Alphaflys next %, Saucony endorphin speed 2, and vapor fly 2s. These are definitely a competitor as the best racing/speed shoes I've had. It's not as propulsive as the first Alphaflys, but they definitely give you that fast turnover and energy return; to be completely honest, there's not a huge difference between the two. Additionally, these definitely help keep me linear and from pronating.Lastly, I've tried on multiple different running shoes and tested them out as well and it was hard to tell the difference between the following and the Rocket X2 (Adidas Pro 3, Saucony Elite 3, vaporfly 3).Also--My piece of advice to all the people out there: do not trust the running influencers out there. This shoe should have been renamed, as the OG Rocket X was a completely different shoe that I did not get along with. The OG rocket was a lower stack, firmer EVA midsole. This is a higher stack PEBA based midsole with tons of bounce and a nice step-in squish. On the run the rebound is great. I never felt like I was digging out of the midsole, which is sometimes the case as a larger runner. My first run in these I took them for a 10-mile interval workout. The easy paces were bouncy and fun and I didn't notice any instability at easy paces. I'm a midfoot striker but I usually like to heel strike for a bit in a new shoe to see how it feels, as I do start to heel strike at the end of longer runs, and the instability went up just a tiny bit, but not a deal breaker. The laces stayed tied!! Never come apart!! They are breathable and my feet never feel clammy at the end of the day. I really love these shoes...except my pinkie toes feel super cramped and it causes pain on both sides of my feet along the lateral aspects. I've never been told I had wide feet in 40 years and never had to purchase wide shoes ever. Maybe it's the specific type of shoe I purchased from Hoka....I love them and I'd never say not to give them a try. Men and women's shoes are shaped differently. The unisex shoe's fit/design make them appropriate for men with narrow feet or women with regular to wide feet. If Hoka offered this shoe in a men and women version it would be a huge success (if Hoke made a men's version in wide, it would become one of its biggest sellers).As they are, they fit like a women's shoe sized up.
