As mentioned before, the upper is suede, so it can be a little warm in the height of summer. Also, the flat sole is great for every day but isn’t going to help with ice and snow. Honestly, though, it would be unrealistic to expect that these sneakers are ideal winter shoes. The Vans Old Skool is a brilliant everyday sneaker. I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking for a low-profile versatile sneaker for every day. It is easy to match with outfits and comfortable. When buying this shoe go true to size. I always have an iteration of the Old Skool in my sneaker collection, as it is a timeless classic.

The fit is perfect for any type of foot, and look smart and stylish on all genders (including (but not limited to) Male, Female, Agender, Transgender, Jedi or Levi Roach). Furthermore, they provide you with a feeling of real perzazz when out getting gazeboed with your chums from Surrey, and will grant you lots of attention from members of a similar sexual orientation (including (but not limited to) heterosexual, homosexual, transexual, bisexual, Minaj or Wookie) if you know what i mean ;) ;) ;). We owe all this to those wondrous designers at Vans:"Roses are red, your shoes are fit, you've allowed us to look great whilst we get really lit."There is NOTHING wrong with these shoes and i strongly recommend everyone to purchase them . I love these shoes and I got a pair a couple months ago, in store, and I wore them everyday to the point where they were falling apart. I ordered a new pair recently and I am so excited! I absolutely love these shoes so much. They're my favorite! Super great wear. I'm a 10 in women's, but order a 10 in men's for these shoes and they fit perfectly.10/10 would recommend!

I ordered my boyfriend a bunch of clothing for his birthday along with these shoes. The shoes are great, however I'm so upset with the quality of the clothing I got. They're so sheer and thin, and they all shrunk so small to where they don't even fit him anymore. Only after the first wash, I spent almost $200 to get horribly quality clothing that shrunk to my size after one wash and that were so see through, even the shorts I purchased are already loosing color and I have only washed them once!
I usually go for the classic slip on, and have had one pair of authentics, but really wanted to try the old skools. Upon first test I thought they're very stiff but so were my last slip on and those broke in just fine. Fast forward to the end of the day and my heel was being rubbed raw by these old skools! I haven't decided if I'm willing to stick through the pain and hope they break in or see if I can exchange for an authentics. (All other vans I've had may have been stiff but were never painful to wear).
My pre-purchase guess was that basic canvas sneakers will be flat-feeling, not much cushion: I was right. Was looking for an alternate feel, casual sneaker that's canvas, inexpensive, plain/not bulky, all white (didn't mind it getting dirty and scuffed); familiar with Vans since the 80's. Got the Old Skool on sale online. Weight distribution on the somewhat heavy sole was even. Basic insole doesn't have much shock absorption, and you can easily feel (sometimes uncomfortable) what you're stepping on even with the vertical waffles: loose rocks, variation of rocks ingrained in pavement, uneven pavement areas, twigs and the truncated domes of those yellow pads near crossing areas. After several days still breaking it in (tested it on long walks-with breaks of course-though not an ideal shoe for that), experimented with those soft insoles with cooling vents for additional comfort; then near 3 weeks added pair of foam ball of foot cushion and then just by itself on the Vans insole (ok for only a while); currently the soft insoles are on top of the foam ball of foot cushion (after initial somewhat snug feel, shoe still has comfortable room). These only helped reduce discomfort a little. So having used this shoe for over two months now (not all day), looks like you have to have strong feet without issues to absorb the impact of continuous walking on hard surfaces. Otherwise, shoe is only good for casual use - not heavy walking all day.

I did not notice in the picture on the website when ordering, but it was all I could see on them in person. I thought I would get used to it, or maybe I could color it in with sharpie, so I did not return - because the shoes themselves are great, and I wanted them in all black. In hindsight I wish I did return them because I cannot wear them without being super annoyed at the white strips. Again, I thought I was getting a pair of ALL BLACK SHOES. WHY would they do this, I cannot comprehend. If I wanted white in them I would've bought the black with white stitching. You can just about make out on the photos that for some reason where the lace eyelets are, instead of joining or folding the material here, it's been cut flat instead, so there are two white stripes running down either side where they lace up. It looks ridiculous, I've no idea why Vans are doing this, as I've checked the same trainers on other sites and they all have this flaw. Ruins a good pair of black trainers, they're like bright white go faster stripes! Returned.
