I wear these almost everyday as a woman who works full-time as a landscaper. This is the second pair I've purchased. I bought them a month before a hiking trip with my dad. I wanted plenty of time to break them in for the hike. I wear them for work where I walk a lot, dig holes to plant trees and shrubs, and climb in and out of trucks. I then wore them when my dad and I climbed Mt. Elbert near Leadville, CO. Although we didn't summit (for a variety of reasons), we did make it to 12,500ft and I wore these for the whole hike. The only time they started bothering my feet was on the last hour or so on the hike back down. (But I imagine that my feet would have hurt after that big of a hike regardless of the footwear.) They're still comfy and not too hot for my feet even though they do have a lining for warmth on the inside. Whenever they wear out, I'll definitely purchase another pair.

Extremely lightweight and comfortable. I have a few friends that play college football and they're just as light or lighter than their cleats. It almost feels like magic given how much larger in size these shoes are than your average cleat. I've had two pair for almost two years. I work a job where I'm on my feet constantly and I've gone through a number of shoe brands trying to find one that doesn't give me a headache by the end of the day and for me these are that shoe. I've always been a Nike fan and have probably bought a few dozen pairs of Nikes over the course of my shoe buying endeavors looking for a good looking all around daily work shoe/boot and no hate against Nike but I don't think I'll be buying another pair. I bought both pairs of shoes (different colors than those offered above) with the water proof spray however I haven't used the spray on either of my vans in order to see how well they hold up over the course of the past year or so of almost constant wear. I hunt and fish a lot, specifically saltwater fishing in places where your feet will get soaked. I'm not sure why but something about the salt water tends to melt the glue that attaches the sole to the body of the shoe I've gone through a number of shoes where the entire sole will eventually come off (usually within 5-7 times of coming in contact with salt water). While I haven't tested these specific shoes my white ultra range exos have been soaked in saltwater plenty of times without a bit of separation once again WITHOUT the waterproof spray. These are the lightest most comfortable good looking shoes that I've ever owned. With that being said here's why I say they're almost perfect: they truly suck on wet surfaces. As I stated before I hunt and fish a lot and while the fabric stitching and glue has held up reliably the grip leaves much to be desired. On anything that's not a flat surface, they're fine even when wet they could be a bit more grippy but they're not the worst. When water is paired with any kind of flat surface meaning any kind of flooring, concrete, asphalt, etc they become about as useful as roller skates requiring me to pretty much shuffles and walk on my toes as to not let my heal slip out from under me. I never write reviews but I wanted to write this one. This past weekend I went on a fishing trip and it was the first time wearing my vans in a boat at this point. Long story short it started raining pretty hard so we docked nearby and once the rain stopped I took a pretty hard spill sliding from the upper deck of the boat into the lower deck. This was even with me anticipating the fall knowing how these shoes react with wet surfaces. Luckily I landed mostly on my feet and wasn't hurt but it needs to be known that while these shoes are probably my favorite I still fell even when I was anticipating the fall and was able to mostly catch myself. I would still absolutely recommend these to anyone and everyone but I would absolutely give them a warning in regards to how they react with water. I would like to see Vans add some sort of rubber grip even at an additional cost. In my experience, something similar to that of a soft compound tire preferably with texturing works best. While yes this can and will wear down over time you'll still have a better grip than you have with none at all. Once again I love these and would recommend them to everyone but I definitely want to see these with a bit better texturing on the grip.

Great Product, an alternative to outdoor technical footware
13 December 2022

This shoe exceeded my expecation for an every day winter shoe.ProsThe MTE range is designed for it comfy lining, a cushioned foot to sole contact with a firm tred that is contored front and back a nice feature. Feet have stayed warm in -6 C conditions.sewn in tougne that doesnt run up above the ankle.Grip is excellentConsAlthough the textered pattern is part of the design the multiple layers could be simplified to make cleaning easier. The internal material is felt and with a few weeks of use the felt is starting to bobble at the heel area, this needs to have a durable material at the high contact points.Laces could do with an extra inch or two due for the above ankle eye lets

Great winter shoes!
16 October 2023

Love these. They are everything I hoped they would be. Very well made and could be a great tactical boot. Haven't tested them in torrential rain yet but they handled the drizzle I walked in just fine and they are very warm. The inner soles are also pretty cushy. No complaints at all. Very comfy shoe all round. One thing to note, I had a feeling they would run a bit narrow and I was right, so I bought a half size up and they fit perfectly. If you want to wear with hiking socks, I would go up a full size, maybe even a size and a half.

Made for walking, but not quite..
26 September 2023

I love the look of these, and I also love the idea of them, but the reality however, not so much. I used the fact I was going on Holiday to Japan (which is notorious for walking) to buy a pair as I loved the look and idea, and I do love Vans and an excuse to buy some. Vans are typically some of the most comfy shoes you can wear, once I bought TNT's years ago, i refused to wear anything else, but these really aren't. It's like Vans took their formula, over engineered it for the concept of these for only the most regular of feet because they can't please every foot shape with the added cushion, and made them far less comfy, in fact uncomfortable after just a short while. A company that is usually so reliable for comfort, missed the mark pretty drastically, to the ... MoreI love the look of these, and I also love the idea of them, but the reality however, not so much. A company that is usually so reliable for comfort, missed the mark pretty drastically, to the point my feet would have been far less shredded in some cheaper boots that I own that I shall not name. It one of those where i let my heart rules my head, and it's a coi flip between wishing I shouldn't and wearing them anyway.

Nice shoe, a little narrow in the toe
28 December 2023

Shoe itself seems well made. The color matches the online photo. Tread is good on the bottom. Will be good for out door adventures. The toe box runs narrow though. Bought for my husband who wears a size 10 consistently and said the length was fine but because the toe box is so narrow needs a 10.5. We exchanged for a 10.5. I also tried these on and I wear a mens 8.5 and the 10 in these fit me perfectly, so I do think the narrow toe box makes them fit small. I would recommend sizing a half size up in these or trying them on in a store first. We own the ultra range vans and these definitely run smaller/narrower then our other vans. My son who wears a 10 in other brands also felt like these ran tight in the tow box.

Not For the Flat Footed or Wet Hikes
19 January 2024

These shoes look good on paper but the fit is far from ideal. I usually wear an 11.5 but buy vans in a 12 to be safe. Trying these on for the first time with regular cotton socks was a snug fit, almost tight. After thinking they needed to be "broken in" I took them on their first hike. It was wet and water immediately began seeping in. This hike left both shoes with a permanent dark brown stain on the toe and proceeded to shrink them further. They are almost unwearable despite attempts to soften them and get them back to the fit they were (which off the shelf was too tight). They also run extremely narrow which - after going to a Vans store and speaking to a clerk - is a known issue with these an all other MTE's other than the sk8. Extremely disappointed. Runs small, great shoe
5 February 2024

This is a great shoe, very light weight and comfortable. However, I've worn sz 12 in Vans my whole life. Several pairs of ultra range and civilware ultra range also sz 12. These Uktrarange MTE run SMALL! I thought at first it was just stiff materials, and my big toe was maybe an 1/16th from touching the end, so I thought I'd wear them to break them in. Nope, super tight, narrow and run a full size small in length. If I could, I'd exchange them for sz 13 but I've already worn them and the sale is off, so instead learn from me. GREAT SHOE, go a half size to a size up so you can enjoy them.

Super comfy warm walking boots - passes the comic con test
16 December 2022

I bought these in the Black Friday sale and, wow, they are worth it. I work a lot of comic cons, and I usually wear a pair of vans, but they aren't always the most comfy after prolonged time on your feet. I tried these out at a con, and they were great. My feet were comfortable and warm and the colours blend in well with dark clothing. I also tried them out in the recent -5°C icy weather, and although my feet were a little numb after standing at a train station for over an hour (yay one day with no train strikes), I think this could easily be remedied with a nice pair of thick socks. I was able to walk on the icy floor without any incident, while being careful of course.I made the decision to get a full size bigger than I usually do, as I thought that leaving room ... MoreI bought these in the Black Friday sale and, wow, they are worth it.
