I had the original MTE 1 all black leather upper and they were a great boot, one that even 3 years on I still wear on the muddiest of walks. Tbh I wish they still did that version. I waited two years until I got these. These are again a great boot I don't think they're as stylish but they're certainly another level up in terms of a comfortable hard wearing walking boot. I walk around 6-7k daily and these haven't failed me at all. My feet stay warm and dry even on the wettest of days. I've actually brought the new MTE 1 versions for keeping un muddy ! They're not as comfortable as these sadly. Only down point is the sole squeaks on certain road surfaces.

I ordered a half size up, as everyone recommended, and still found it a little snug though after a few days it loosened up a little & is so nice! It's been great for these northeastern snows, and they have no problems so far in the snow and muck. Can't wait to wear them out west. To wear them in quicker I recommend filling the shoes with shoe trees (the kind for your dress shoes) overnight for a few days & they'll feel fine!

I always wear size 10 in Adidas shoes and so I ordered a size 11 because of the earlier review I read on the product. The size 11 was way too big for me. I called Backcounty and they were so quick in making the exchange for a size 10.5 and that was still too big a size. So I called Backcounty and they sent me the size 10 that I should have ordered from the very beginning. Size 10 fits my size 10 foot very good.I needed this shoe for work and Backcounty made sure that I was well-taken care of in this process of getting the right size I needed. Thank you!Every customer service rep was gracious and very quick in helping me.

These shoes are great. I've been wearing them every day since I got them and they're super warm and waterproof. The only bad thing I can say is that they're definitely a bit narrow. I've never had to buy wide shoes before either, especially in Vans which I'm always a size 11 and they fit perfectly, but this specific shoe is tight. Maybe ordering a half size up would have fixed it? I'm not sure, but I've been breaking them in and they're more comfortable every day.
Love these. They are everything I hoped they would be. Very well made and could be a great tactical boot. Haven't tested them in torrential rain yet but they handled the drizzle I walked in just fine and they are very warm. The inner soles are also pretty cushy. No complaints at all. Very comfy shoe all round. One thing to note, I had a feeling they would run a bit narrow and I was right, so I bought a half size up and they fit perfectly. If you want to wear with hiking socks, I would go up a full size, maybe even a size and a half.
I'd gone through three no-go pairs of shoes to walk to work- Abeo, Adidas, another pair of Vans. I am female, usually 7.5, slightly wide fit. Normal width can work, but needs to not be on the narrow side of normal. So initially I got the green in Women's 8, and liked it so much I immediately bought the black on black, which I wear daily now. It's maybe more than needed for SoCal winter, but more I've also comfortably worn them on recent 80 degree days without issue. They don't rub anywhere which sometimes is an issue at the ankle in high tops for me. I walk 3-7mi a day at least three days a week, and 1-3mi a day on the others. These are lightweight for the support they provide. I have a connective tissue disorder which makes subluxation of joints more likely. My arches and ankles are supported. I love them. It's been my daily shoe for two months of heavy use and they look like new. I did spray the water repellent on them to double down on waterproofing and keep them nice. They currently look like new but when they went 30% off I bought another pair of black on black cause I never want to be without them again. I love them!!
I liked the look of these and wanted something all-weather/all-terrain, but I was pleasantly surprised, having not had a pair of Vans for 20 years, these are a game changer! Surprisingly light and comfortable, and I mean like walking on air with a bit of a bounce! The grip is fantastic and give a secure feel. I have several different pairs of heavy clod-buster boots. They do up nicely, holding the foot perfectly comfortable, and also warm on 0deg days. Quality is very high and I love the design and style, will defo be looking at a few more pairs of Vans going forward. I actually want to wear these every time I go out, driving or walking, rain or not.
This would be my first pair of Vans as I normally wear Merrells, but I'm looking for something more on the sneaker side of a boot, especially for my upcoming trip to Ireland next month. I have read that Vans can fit approximately a half-size bigger, but also have read people ordering a half-size up. I normally wear an 11-11.5 in Merrell, looking for feedback on size difference between the two brands. Thanks in advance.
I used these boots for a for 4 day hiking expedition through Dartmoor doing 13-17 km per day and they were perfect. They kept my feet dry through deep puddles and mud. It did rain the last two days and my feet eventually got wet but it was mainly from water entering from my socks so ill have to give the blame to the rest of my gear. Like all my vans shoes they are extremely comfortable. Feels like walking on clouds. I was also extremely impressed with grip. I didn't slip once even when crossing rivers. I've tried other boots from different brands and i dont think they can compare in terms of performance, comfort, and durability. Once again super impressed and look forward to using these boots again.
comfortable but not built to last (they should be for the price)i haven't worn them very often or done any hiking like they're supposedly 'built for' and they're falling apart already. truthfully, they were within a couple days of me having them.on the inside right foot the sole is peeling away from the shoe. the foam they use is cheap and takes a lot of damage from very little scuffs
