Looove these! It took a couple of tries to find the right Vejas for me size-wise and style wise but these are worth the wait. They’re not intended to be athletic obviously but I don’t find them uncomfortable at all. The tongue is a little higher than others but not a bother.

I bought these Veja Esplar in white/maroon yesterday at Bloomingdales and had done all the research regarding the fit and lack of comfort from all the online reviews. My usual shoe size is 10 and I purchased the 10/41 which is true to size. Even though I knew the shoes would need breaking in and not be super comfortable from day one I still made the purchase because I love how they look. Yes, the tongue is very stiff and not padded so it does cut into your ankle. My solution was to tie the shoes normally until the last hole and I tied that part UNDER the tongue and then brought the lace over the tongue. That completely lifts the tongue away from your ankle and solves that problem. I have been wearing the shoes constantly since yesterday, have bent and twisted them ... MoreI bought these Veja Esplar in white/maroon yesterday at Bloomingdales and had done all the research regarding the fit and lack of comfort from all the online reviews. I have to say now after only one day the shoes are now completely comfortable. So for those of you willing to break them in and customize them to your foot you will love wearing them as they go with everything. These are definitely not running shoes but for style and walking they are perfect!

Shoes arrived with couple stains and laces all twisted, so I doubt they are new. I ordered my usual size, but the length is so long that I have to tie the laces all the way to the last set of holes to avoid my feet from sloshing out when I walk. I would definitely size down, but they're out of stock for that size:(( As for comfort, they are pretty uncomfortable. Maybe I need to break into them more, but they are very stiff and thin (the soles especially). The materials are thinner than cardboard, but they are pretty cute.

DO NOT BUY
24 October 2022

I bought this pair of sneakers less than 6 months ago and the bottom of the sole has split from the side making these completely unwearable. Got stuck in some rain for not even 5 minutes and the inside was completely soaked because of the split. Veja as a brand said thats "normal wear and tear" after FIVE MONTHS! Absolutely not worth the money - I've had much cheaper pairs of sneaker last far longer.

Filthy, pre worn shoes received.
30 October 2022

The shoes I ordered came with filthy and very worn Sam Edelman insoles shoved inside, there were foot/toe prints and all. They left marks on the inside of the shoes and the shoes stunk when I opened the box. I sent back for an exchange but never received and instead just got a credit return. Very disappointed.

Great Sneakers!
25 January 2020

I own these in both white and black. Veja is now my go to sneaker brand because they are both comfortable and stylish. I don't have issues with the tongue, like many reviewers have mentioned on this site and others, but I don't use the last hole when I lace them up. That might do the trick for others. I have wide feet and the front of my foot usually hurts by the end of the day with other fashion sneakers. Vejas never hurt my feet. I've never owned black sneakers and was hesitant to buy these, but they look good with jeans or with my black suits/skirts that I wear for work. I like to change into sneakers when I go out to grab lunch. Totally recommend these shoes!

Great sleek, minimal, staple white sneaker!
21 February 2023

Got these for my husband and he loooved them! He oscillates between a US 9.5-10, but we went for the 9 as per the reviews and they fit just right. Also, I’d say that his feet are more on the wide side, so he hates when those narrower shoes expand on the sides to mold to the shape of his feet. Well, let me tell you that even though these look narrow, they don’t do that at all! A big win.

This is one of these purchases made ENTIRELY for aesthetics. Veja is a super high style shoe that stands out from the typical Nike/Adidas/etc etc. They really do look cool and different! Thats where the positives mostly end though. These shoes are cheaply made out of subpar materials. The materials and construction feel like a $20 shoe from walmart! This would not be such a negative if they didnt cost $120. In this price range I expect higher quality. Saying all of that, Veja seems like a good company that strives for sustainability and fair trade practices, something the big sneaker makers care little about. Overall, these shoes look awesome, comfort is mediocre, and quality is minimal. I do enjoy wearing them knowing that they wont last long. Wonderful shoe and exceptional company
10 February 2020

I first noticed the Esplar as I was looking for a new pair of white leather a sneaker and wasn’t familiar with Veja. Spent some time researching them and really appreciated the efforts they are making for being more sustainable and mindful. I read some reviews of uncomfortableness with the tongue but haven’t found that issue. The leather is very stiff and does take some wears to form, but it is worth it. I like the structure and the look and have really enjoyed adding them to my closet. I got an 11 as that’s my size in most everything (except 11.5 in Nikes). The width is a pretty standard D.

great sneakers if you’re patient enough

I haven’t finished the break-in phase yet so it remains 4-star as of now.Absolutely no doubt that these are great for any kind of outfit. I think my main problem is my legs are not long enough, so these would make me look shorter if my ankles are covered by regular length pants. They look the best on me when I’m wearing ankle-length jeans, leggings, and joggers (of course with socks that’d expose my ankles).I’ve seen people shying away from these because it’s too stiff when first put on. Yes they’re not as comfy as those Adidas sneakers, but with about 5 days of break-in period the tongues can get softer for sure (I’m at the end of this phase now). I also untied the laces & just tugged them to the sides. That way there’s room for the front part of ankles when ... MoreI haven’t finished the break-in phase yet so it remains 4-star as of now.Absolutely no doubt that these are great for any kind of outfit. That way there’s room for the front part of ankles when walking around the house and easier to break-in with a pair of thick, taller socks. These are true to size. I’m usually an US9 in women’s shoes and 9 feels ok on my feet so far (with socks).
