Really great - looks great, operates great - I love the solar aspects for opening and controlling the skylight as well as the blinds. Really happy with them. One suggestion: use a less dark colored screen material - as the dark color of the screens makes the blinds look grey instead of white. We have them installed high up in a cathedral ceiling and they just look grey from the inside when the blinds are closed. Defeats the purpose of ordering white blinds.

Started having our first rains after we got the Velux Active / Auto system. And the skylights do not auto-close when it is raining as they say they do. According to another reviewer they close due to vibration from the water, that's pretty dumb if true, as that means anywhere that has light drizzle or heavy fog causing water to seep through will make it through. Really kills the ability to use the auto open / close capabilities of the skylights. If I'd known this, would have bought someone else's skylight. Maybe at least one that can operate with the numerous options out there for real/bonafide rain sensors or the likes

Installed about a month ago. Our old bubble skylight had absolutely no insulating value. This new Velux skylight has double pained glass and low-e value. We already notice the difference on hot days. We no longer climb into an inferno as we walk up the stairs. Our upstairs is significantly cooler during the day. At night we are able to open the skylight using the solar powered remote control and circulate the air in our home. Easy to install with no additional wiring necessary because of solar panel. Love it!

We had our new Velux Solar powered 'fresh air" skylight (VCS2246), installed over our attached garage roof, when we replaced our roof. We also decided to get the optional solar powered blind, which we had installed at the factory, when the skylight was made. Our roofer professionally installed our Velux Solar skylight using the Velux curb mounted flashing kit (ECL2246), underlayment and step flashing. After that, he finished installing our new roof shingles around the skylight. All we can say is WOW! This skylight has made a huge difference inside our attached garage. What use to be the darkest area of our home, is now light and bright! The solar powered blind allows filtered light to still come in and both the the blind and skylight open/close with ease. The remote control is simple to use and the 30% tax credit made the option to go solar a perfect choice. Our new Velux Solar "fresh air" skylight, is our favorite upgrade in our home!! Our neighbors wish they had thought to add a Solar skylight in their dark garages too. If you're in the market for a new Solar skylight, this Velux VCS2246 is the one to get!
We've had a Velux solar power operated skylight in our house since we built it 7 or 8 years ago. We haven't operated it a lot but it has been great to quickly ventilate the bathroom after a shower. Here's the problem, I think the battery may be shot. It doesn't open and close with the remote, won't open and close when I press the reset with a paperclip, and it is failing registration with the remote. Help please!
We had a total of 5 skylights installed, but only 2 are solar. Four are great, but one of the solar stopped working within 10 months of installation. I was told I need to hit the reset button, which is inconveniently located 15 feet high. On top of that, my brilliant installer replaced the trim around it, which now means in order to get to the button we need to buy a longer ladder, remove the trim & screen to get to the reset button. If it worked, I would give this product 5 stars, but the response I received regarding my new skylights and how to fix it made me regret my purchase. I have been unable to open that skylight for 2 years.
I bought this skylight 3 years ago. It has failed 3 times. The customer service it horrible to deal with and extremely unresponsive. The first summer the skylight was repaired just before winter after reporting the issue in spring. The second summer the skylight required a new remote and it worked for most of the summer once I received that. Now the third spring and it doesn't work again. I have tried to contact Velux using the phone number they give you and you end up getting an email from a person on the phone requesting information to be forwarded to a local representative. That local representative never contacts you and doesn't care to come fix your product. This is the same issue that happened with my first repair that took several months to get fixed. Last time it took several calls to Velux to explain and reexplain my issue and two different vendors to finally find one to come. Just purchase another brand, seriously the Chinese junk I have bought from Amazon has better quality and their customer service is head and shoulders above this.
I've had a Velux solar venting skylight (VCS 2246) for 8 years and the battery has died. The display indicates that the skylight's power supply is too weak and won't allow operation of the skylight motor. The battery is Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) which has a life expectancy of 5-12 years.Velux doesn't list the replacement battery for sale on their website. They also don't have instructions to access and replacing the battery. Some internet forums (Reddit) indicate that the battery component is more than $160.Think about the maintenance of the battery and difficulty in accessing the skylight and internal components when considering purchasing one of these skylights!
Liked it when it worked, and everyone loved the touchpad remote, but another contractor who does new building (I stick with remodels) said he wouldn't go near the solar-powered ones, especially if they do not have a replaceable battery. I laughed and bought one anyway, even though previously had only used hard-wired ones.Well, out of nowhere every two days the remote loses contact with the skylight and I have to climb my 10-foot stepladder and turn off the power and then turn it back on and reregister the unit. Seems odd that it is two days, but it has been doing that for about three weeks now. Already tried new batteries in the remote. Sure wish I had hardwired it. I have two others hardwired that work beautifully and I never worry about the solar battery going ... MoreLiked it when it worked, and everyone loved the touchpad remote, but another contractor who does new building (I stick with remodels) said he wouldn't go near the solar-powered ones, especially if they do not have a replaceable battery. Two years ago, we remodeled our kitchen. Using Velux skylights allowed us to remove a window (which looked out at a neighbor's house) and install two skylights for better quality of light. These are fantastic! We actually started with two fixed skylights (due to kitchen budget overage) but then replaced one with the solar fresh air version and it's heaven! We open for fresh air and to help pull air through the house. Also helps exhaust cooking odors. The rain sensor is great - it can tell the difference between water still on the sensor from a rain versus falling rain. Living in Portland, OR, it's great to be able to open the skylight after rain has ended. And the sensor is quick to send the "close" message once raindrops fall. We're looking to install two more in ... MoreTwo years ago, we remodeled our kitchen.
