I got my mine they other day and WOW! The size, ergonomics, quality of materials and weight was perfect. The blade and tools are awesome and pretty much everything you would use routinely every day. I had the EVO 18, much slimmer and didn’t use half the tools at all.If you are looking for Everyday Knife, this is your knife. The Pioneer X with the saw would be a bonus. If you are looking at taking out herds of zombies, vampires or werewolves this isn’t the knife.

I've been a long time casual knife collector buying whatever fit a need or just struck my fancy. Like a lot of people probably one of my first knives was a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife and I've had a lifelong love of this brand. These SAK's with Alox scales are a cut above the regular plastic handled blades and it is hard to resist some of the cool colors that have been rolling out lately. This dark green on this knife looks great although I could live without the seller's logo on the engraving panel.

The fit and finish are nice. Unfortunately the whole non locking blade thing is dangerous. I tried cutting up a corrugated cardboard box. The blade collapsed and cut my finger. My normal carry pocket knife is a Benchmade or Chris Reeve folder. They both have locking blades.

Moden take on the army knife, very well made nice feel in the hand will last for a lifetime, deserves a leather slip pouch, mine is swade keeps it like new, dependable stylish and strong, a true friend in your pocket.Only small point the keyring I don't like it, I know that some people love it.Please can this be a option ,on all the pioneer range as it's a love hate thing. The army versions don't have one and are better for it, the feel in the hand will tell you that the keyring isn't right, try it out no keyring it feels smouth and flows round in the fingers ,no sharp edges great style, try with the keyring and bang you're fingers hits the pertruding stub, I have the electrician model with out a keyring it feels so right, I do appreciate that this is a personal ... MoreModen take on the army knife, very well made nice feel in the hand will last for a lifetime, deserves a leather slip pouch, mine is swade keeps it like new, dependable stylish and strong, a true friend in your pocket.Only small point the keyring I don't like it, I know that some people love it.Please can this be a option ,on all the pioneer range as it's a love hate thing. The Pioneer is the knife that was issued to the Swiss Army from the 1960’s until 2008 when it was replaced by their Soldier 08 knife. The Pioneer is obviously a great knife, but lacks scissors. Victorinox fixed this by coming out with the Pioneer X. Their scissors are the best out of all the knife and multi-tool makers. If you just want a multi-function knife that can do basic things like open cans and bottles, cut stuff open and tighten the occasional errant screw then the Pioneer X is a classy alternative to a full blown multi-tool.
I got this lil but big in the same time Pioneer X about a week ago. It is victorinox and that usually means quality and ergonomics with a long history. I have only one thing that could be improved by the design team for next generation of Pioneer X Alox and I wish there was a way to upload pictures in this review to show exactly what I mean. So, the heads of the rivets that keep together all the parts, are staying on top of the alox 3d squared texture of the scales. The design team did not designed the scales like they did with the Hunter Pro Alox to remove few of the textured squares around the heads of rivets and give the chance to those heads to be fully on a flat surface of the aluminum scales. Instead in the Pioneer X Alox case the rivets heads are on top of ... MoreI got this lil but big in the same time Pioneer X about a week ago. The design team did not designed the scales like they did with the Hunter Pro Alox to remove few of the textured squares around the heads of rivets and give the chance to those heads to be fully on a flat surface of the aluminum scales. Instead in the Pioneer X Alox case the rivets heads are on top of the 3D alox texture, leaving a lot of open space under the heads where dirt will be deposited in time during use. You are actually able to place you nail under them which should not be the case. One of the heads is strangely even higher than the others. I can send pictures to a Victorinox representative if requested.Overall this is a great knife but this issue in the design process was something that Victorinox missed before they put this knife in production and because of that unfortunately I can’t say this is a perfect pocket knife.
I purchased this Alox model after owning several SAK models with cellidor scales. The aluminum on the Pioneer X is much more durable and scratch resistant, and the texture feels nice and grippy in hand. The tool also feels heftier and sturdier than its plastic counterpart. Not to mention, this thing oozes class. The slipjoint mechanism is strong and secure, preventing accidental deployment of the tools. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a beefed up, more durable (and classier) looking SAK.
The Pioneer X is a solidly built SAK that has the correct implements for my rotational carry. This, along with the other SAK's, are easily carried in my "Skinth" sheath and although it's heavier; I don't feel as if its a hindrance to carry as I have also a Farmer X. The textured scales is a great asset as it provides a more secure grip and the tendency to have it slip from you is greatly mitigated. Additionally with the protective layer it also prevents corrosion and damage. The Alox construction offers heavier duty tasking in a sleek but rugged carry that will certainly last a long time.
This was my first Alox Swiss Army knife. Well, actually it's the very similar Soldier knife. Mine's a 2003. Only real difference is the shield design and lack of a keyring. It's a wonderful pocket knife. The main blade is very sturdy, even moreso than the Officer's knives. It cuts well, stays sharp and is easily sharpened. Mine usually just needs a strop to stay shaving sharp. The rest of the tools are very robust and practical. The opening tools can perform a very wide variety of tasks. The reamer tool is superb! What an excellent tool. Drills, scrapes, punches, scribes, planes, pokes, cleans, etc. If you have even half an imagination, you'll love the Pioneer, for both the outdoors and in day to day life. Its slim profile pocket carries nicely, and the silver Alox scales hide wear well. No scale tools to lose. Such a great Swiss Army knife. Highly recommended. If you can't live without a saw, however, the Farmer is basically the Pioneer with a saw.
Pioneer X is a welcome addition to the Alox family of Victorinox. The popular Pioneer (based off Victorinox Soldier 1961) has been now been given an additional layer with scissors that collectors and customers had been asking for a long time. This Swiss Army Knife consists of a 93 mm (3.4 inch) folding knife with a blade length of less than 3" (complying with European knife laws), a pair of scissors, an awl/ punch (missing in the picture shown here), can opener with small flat screwdriver, bottle opener with large flat screwdriver & wire stripper. It has all the essential tools without the fancy ones (like the ever slandered corkscrew of course). It has all the essential tools without the fancy ones (like the ever slandered corkscrew of course). It comes with anodised aluminium oxide scales / handles that are thinner than the usual plastic ones on other models, but much more durable and sturdier. It doesn't contain the signature tweezers and toothpick that the plastic handle models carry. If you are looking for a Swiss Army Knife with lots of functions, this is probably not for you. However, if you have been EDC'ing blades for a considerable time like myself, you will truly appreciate the features this knife offers. Pioneer X comes with a sturdy, straight edge blade that takes an edge quickly a reamer / punch and the standard openers mounted with drivers. Some of the other reviewers have complained that the scissors are difficult to use / open, but i haven't faced this issue so far. I even trimmed my nails and tried (some complained that you need long nails to open this) and still faced no issue. It is a great pair of scissors - similar to the ones you see on Climber, Huntsman and other models. The Alox scales are amazing, the tools are stronger, thicker, sturdier and the springs are tighter than the usual models with plastic casing. This entire tool is so much more durable and doesn't weigh more than a standard Climber.I would have probably liked a combo can/bottle opener tool and a philips screw driver instead of the dedicated can opener to make this the perfect EDC for me, but that's wishful thinking. For now this is a great EDC option in most parts of the world - including European countries like UK with very strict knife laws.In India, carrying this tool won't raise any eyebrows as it is well within the legal limits prescribed for blades. I would avoid carrying it in Metros, Stadiums etc, where rules are more stringent. And for god's sake never put it in a cabin bag while flying. That has to be the worst way to lose a knife!Victorinox knives are made from Swedish steel that sharpens very quickly. Mine wasn't sharp out of box, but it took me less than 30 seconds to sharpen the blade using my Lansky. Now it is hair shaving sharp. Suggested sharpening angle 20 degrees or lesser.I particularly like the reamer / punch which can be a secondary blade, a last ditch self defence weapon (much more effective than the large blade which can cause more harm than good in self defence owing to its belly, lack of guard etc.)Overall, for the product I will retain a 5 star rating because it deserves nothing less. Victorinox is the world's largest pocket knife manufacturer for the last 100+ years for a reason. Impeccable quality and craftsmanship as always, at considerably affordable prices.
