I’ve been buying and using Victorinox Swiss Army Knives for 35 years. I purchased the Farmer X Alox a few months ago and it’s by far the best one yet. The grip, comfort, and durability of the Alox handles is superior to Celidor in every way possible. Getting both the scissors and saw together was very important to me since they’re the two tools I use the most next to the main blade. And the main blade of the Farmer X is larger and stronger than on the 91 mm models. The weight and hand feel are both quite pleasantly hefty. This Farmer X knife is the best everyday carry I could have hoped for. Best of all I managed to buy one from a site that had it for 24% off for some reason, not that I wouldn’t have bought it anyway. Sometimes, in order to justify the purchase of a swiss army knife, you need to use it. That means it has to be near you, best is in the pocket. Many of the larger models, can be too much for pocket carry, but a small knife like this on the keychain is actually not that bad, it does not make a huge difference. The knife is okay for opening packages. You can cut fingernails with the scissors, although I am not sure if you should. On the medium size knives I often feel, that the phillips screwdriver is too big, so if you need a smaller screwdriver, this knife could be a nice complementary for the bigger one. After a couple of years the scales starts to be a bit loose, bot I don't think they will fall off, but the tweezers are also a little bit loose, and I have already ... MoreSometimes, in order to justify the purchase of a swiss army knife, you need to use it. (Probably this is a manufacturing thing. Other models have the pen and flashlight, and those should be on the opposite site, but still.))I often meet with sunken smaller screws, that I cannot reach with these screwdrivers (although it is worse at the medium sized models). I think that the narrower part of the end of both screwdriver could be a little bit longer (0.5-1cm), that would be more useful.

Just got my new Rambler; I have carried one for at least 15 years. They last about 4 years. It is perfect with a short but effective blade that most security will allow. The Phillips head screwdriver effectively deals with small screws on electronic devices such as battery doors. The scissors stay sharp and quickly clip tags off clothing or trim a stray hair. The nail file on the small flat screwdriver gets used more often than you would expect. Toothpick and tweezers are just the right size. I love it and carry it everywhere. Glad you folks haven’t changed it.

Nice and light. Best feature is the key ring steal being soft so it's a easy delete. With have a key ring on a tool that size. Just delete the bloody ring holder and get a nice leather pouch. Can't spend all day talked about a bloody key ring. So if your looking at a farmer X alox there is no need to read reviews. You know what you want. There not wanting a Swiss 7. Your wanting the farmer but with the scissors. Best in the game for pocket scissors. Keyring worsted in the game. There we go on back on that blasted keyring. Even if you wanted to put a paracord fob on it. It's a alox why do that to a slim Line beast. Only issue I have is. Victorinox must have changed there blade steel. As it can't hold a shape edge for the life of it. In like the standard Sak blades. ... MoreNice and light. Best feature is the key ring steal being soft so it's a easy delete. Moden take on the army knife, very well made nice feel in the hand will last for a lifetime, deserves a leather slip pouch, mine is swade keeps it like new, dependable stylish and strong, a true friend in your pocket.Only small point the keyring I don't like it, I know that some people love it.Please can this be a option ,on all the pioneer range as it's a love hate thing. The army versions don't have one and are better for it, the feel in the hand will tell you that the keyring isn't right, try it out no keyring it feels smouth and flows round in the fingers ,no sharp edges great style, try with the keyring and bang you're fingers hits the pertruding stub, I have the electrician model with out a keyring it feels so right, I do appreciate that this is a personal ... MoreModen take on the army knife, very well made nice feel in the hand will last for a lifetime, deserves a leather slip pouch, mine is swade keeps it like new, dependable stylish and strong, a true friend in your pocket.Only small point the keyring I don't like it, I know that some people love it.Please can this be a option ,on all the pioneer range as it's a love hate thing. The Spartan is very similar to the Tinker (small), but it's a must have for every collector. If you're not a collector, the Spartan is almost a perfect EDC. I prefer my SAKs to have the scissors but not everyone wants/needs a scissors in their EDC. If you won't use the scissors, then your choice between Spartan and Tinker boils down to preference... corkscrew vs screwdriver. I'm not a huge fan of the perpendicular screwdriver so I prefer the corkscrew, which comes in handy for many things beyond opening a bottle of wine. The corkscrew also allows you to add-on the tiny flathead screwdriver to repair your eyeglasses, which is a huge bonus for me. So I would take the Spartan over Tinker any day. And for the price, the Spartan is a no-brainer. You won't regret buying this for yourself or as a gift for a loved one.
What more can I say? It is a Swiss Army Knife. I got it on sale for a fantastic price. But the knife would be worth it to buy at full price. The price at CT is the same as anywhere else, so I got it at CT.I was surprised at the functionality and the feeling in my hand. This is a 4 layer knife, and I usually prefer a 3 layer Swiss Army Knife (SAK) because the 3 layer units are obviously thinner and weigh less, as such the 3 layer guys are easier to carry in my pocket. However, this 4 layer knife carries exactly the same to me. The extra weight and size are not noticeable. So I love the way this "fireman" (improperly named - the real name is "Fieldmaster") feels in my pocket and hands.I also really like the set of tools on this knife. So I love the way this "fireman" (improperly named - the real name is "Fieldmaster") feels in my pocket and hands.I also really like the set of tools on this knife. You would not think that a saw is all that useful, but, after you have one of these you will love that tool. The saw is extremely sharp and will cut through a branch or a fan belt in seconds. Really handy. The other thing I like about this knife is that it has a Phillips screwdriver and not a corkscrew. The only thing the corkscrew tool is good for, in my opinion, is to hold the extra-fine mini flat blade screwdriver (which is an add-on item). Having the mini screwdriver is great, but I think the full-sized Phillips driver is a better choice. The other thing about this knife is the scissors. I will not buy a SAK without scissors because that tool is so useful, I use them all the time and they work great. The toothpick and tweezers are another set of tools I would never be without. I use these very often as well. I work with wood and slivers are a notorious addition to my fingers, so I use the tweezers to get them out. It works great. The only negative about this knife, and it is very picky, is the parcel hook. I have never used this tool in any of my SAK's and I wonder why it is there. But, it comes with the package, so, that is the way it is. It is a minor flaw in an otherwise perfect knife. This is the second most popular SAK, after the “classic” which is really not a knife in my view. This is my now favourite pocket carry knife. I used to love the super tinker, but this is exactly the same knife knife with a saw. Love it.It really is a wonderful addition to your pocket and I highly recommend it.
I got this lil but big in the same time Pioneer X about a week ago. It is victorinox and that usually means quality and ergonomics with a long history. I have only one thing that could be improved by the design team for next generation of Pioneer X Alox and I wish there was a way to upload pictures in this review to show exactly what I mean. So, the heads of the rivets that keep together all the parts, are staying on top of the alox 3d squared texture of the scales. The design team did not designed the scales like they did with the Hunter Pro Alox to remove few of the textured squares around the heads of rivets and give the chance to those heads to be fully on a flat surface of the aluminum scales. Instead in the Pioneer X Alox case the rivets heads are on top of the 3D alox texture, leaving a lot of open space under the heads where dirt will be deposited in time during use. You are actually able to place you nail under them which should not be the case. One of the heads is strangely even higher than the others. I can send pictures to a Victorinox representative if requested.Overall this is a great knife but this issue in the design process was something that Victorinox missed before they put this knife in production and because of that unfortunately I can’t say this is a perfect pocket knife.
My first was what would now be a Ranger, in 1983. Loved making walking sticks for my grandparents, with all the engravings and carvings etc. All done with my Swissie. Years later there was Leatherman... and I invested in the heavy duty pliers-based multitool. With knife laws being what they are now, and seeing some really cool little add-on gadgets you get now (please stock the FireAnt & FireFly permenently), I got my first Swissie for years: this Spartan. The basic model that doesn't leave me without the Awl or the Cork Screw. Thin & light and 'innocent looking'. Handy for food prep and unpacking at work.I can say that the old saying, "They don't make them like they used to", doesn't apply here. There is no more 'double-jointed' blades that can't take too much pressure during deeper cuts. The big Screw Driver has a handy stop at 90 degrees. Love the tools in the scales (why can't they all have the Plus option all the time?) To me, they seem more corrosion-resistant, smoother and more 'drum tight' than my '80's one. All I can say is, it won't be long before I get my hands on a Ranger again, and replay some childhood memories out in the woods...
This is actually the Fieldmaster and not the Fireman. The Fireman is larger and does not have scissors or the hook. But this Fieldmaster is a great pocket knife multi tool. A perfect go to as your first and maybe final EDC tool!! It is relatively small for a pocket tool and has almost everything you need for camping, hiking, hunting, house tinkering, work at a desk, or work in tech/trades. If you forgot your main tool/s, this almost has all you need in a jam. I feel this is my EDC tool and the one I can just make sure I always have in an urban out and about setting, at home, desk job, tech job, and even some trades work, but for sure in any outdoor setting. Plier based tools may be better for some but for a similar/close to the same quality you pay a lot more and carry a bulkier/heavier tool. The scissors can't be beat on this one and all the other tools work really well, you cannot say the same for all the other plier based top brands tools, they are close, but are very plier centric and do that great. Buy both eventually if wanted but in my opinion start with this one to see if you need the more expensive choices and this will not be a waste of your money. I can't say enough.
