Just received my Bantam. I was very excited for my first Alox SAK. It feels premium in the hand, waffer thin but not too thin, scales offer nice grip, blade is sharp as expected from Victorinox etc... however what is most dissappointing are the tolerances. There are large gaps between the scales and back spring to the point the scales are bending (ie look bent) probably caused by the incorrect spacer used on the blade. The bottle opener (brand new, never used) is also very obviously bent which when folding back into the handle doesnt actually close fully as the end sits on top of the handle, which has caused a dent in the Alox. The opener has to be pressed toward the blade for it to be seated properly. Very unlike Victorinox and obviously one that got through QC, ... MoreJust received my Bantam. And I'm not sure why the SAK widely referred to as a Harvester has been given a nondescript name of "Swiss Army 7" since its tool set (the Farmer with the can opener switched to a hawkbill pruning blade) seems obviously targeted to gardeners or other outside maintenance rather than campers or hikers. The screwdriver is more for opening lids or otherwise being a pry tool here, although you're more likely to get big flat head screws outside I suppose and it can open bottled beer as well as anything.Besides that, it has what I'm told are the usual features of an alox model (thicker tools, nice snap to the action, space on the reverse for engraving) and this one also has no key ring getting in the way. What would be helpful would be Victorinox using a better courier. ... MoreAnd I'm not sure why the SAK widely referred to as a Harvester has been given a nondescript name of "Swiss Army 7" since its tool set (the Farmer with the can opener switched to a hawkbill pruning blade) seems obviously targeted to gardeners or other outside maintenance rather than campers or hikers. I work in an office and the Cadet is perfect. Most days this is what I carry . It's slim and has great grip. It fits in my pocket well and doesnt get in the way. I like that it doesnt scare people when I do have it out. I use the nail file all the time. I like this newer version of the file.Best nail file I have ever had The alox scales make it even more slim. Cant go wrong with this SAK

I tended to alternate between a Climber and a Pioneer X before I got this. Though I love my SwissChamp and other more feature packed SAK sometimes less is more and the tools on this are all I really need in a daily carry and as a classical guitarist who obsesses over my nail shape, I find the file and nail cleaner very useful. I thought i’d miss the scissors but I don’t really. The blade does for most things and i’d prefer the smaller profile over a Cadet X though others might long for this. This is smaller and lighter than the other two but still nice and sturdy. It feels like it will last forever like all alox knives.
I was very pleased to find this knife for it was a replacement of a similar knife I lost.If i had a choice I still would prefer the original, but this is a close second.the original was perhaps an inch or so smaller, had a similar feel with the corrugated holding surface, but had two blades, one from each end, and it was red. I've not been able to find the exact model for replacement. But I am getting used to this one, and am very happy to have found it! Thank You so very much!
I have a small collection of quality slipjoints, some very expensive. This one bladed Victorinox surprised me, surpassing my expectations wonderfully. The backspring is very strong yet pulls smoothly while opening. There is very little chance of the blade inadvertently closing while in use due to the protection of this strong spring. The knife is very lightweight and fits into my watch pocket comfortably so I can be sure to always have it with me. The silver alox handle is very attractive, grippy, and seems to be scratch resistant. I have carried it daily in my pocket alongside coins, keys and other small knives for one month and so far the knife hasn't suffered any damage or scratches. I always sharpen my knives to my own liking upon receipt. This knife arrived ... MoreI have a small collection of quality slipjoints, some very expensive. I always sharpen my knives to my own liking upon receipt. This knife arrived with the blade bevel angle at 20 per side, perfect for this knife. It came sharp. All it needed was a light stropping with green honing compound on my strop block to make it shaving sharp. This knife easily compares favorably with my more expensive slipjoints. I love the blade steel, the appearance and I feel I have received a great value for the price. I now have a better appreciation for this type of slipjoint product.
Pioneer X is a welcome addition to the Alox family of Victorinox. The popular Pioneer (based off Victorinox Soldier 1961) has been now been given an additional layer with scissors that collectors and customers had been asking for a long time. This Swiss Army Knife consists of a 93 mm (3.4 inch) folding knife with a blade length of less than 3" (complying with European knife laws), a pair of scissors, an awl/ punch (missing in the picture shown here), can opener with small flat screwdriver, bottle opener with large flat screwdriver & wire stripper. It has all the essential tools without the fancy ones (like the ever slandered corkscrew of course). It has all the essential tools without the fancy ones (like the ever slandered corkscrew of course). It comes with anodised aluminium oxide scales / handles that are thinner than the usual plastic ones on other models, but much more durable and sturdier. It doesn't contain the signature tweezers and toothpick that the plastic handle models carry. If you are looking for a Swiss Army Knife with lots of functions, this is probably not for you. However, if you have been EDC'ing blades for a considerable time like myself, you will truly appreciate the features this knife offers. Pioneer X comes with a sturdy, straight edge blade that takes an edge quickly a reamer / punch and the standard openers mounted with drivers. Some of the other reviewers have complained that the scissors are difficult to use / open, but i haven't faced this issue so far. I even trimmed my nails and tried (some complained that you need long nails to open this) and still faced no issue. It is a great pair of scissors - similar to the ones you see on Climber, Huntsman and other models. The Alox scales are amazing, the tools are stronger, thicker, sturdier and the springs are tighter than the usual models with plastic casing. This entire tool is so much more durable and doesn't weigh more than a standard Climber.I would have probably liked a combo can/bottle opener tool and a philips screw driver instead of the dedicated can opener to make this the perfect EDC for me, but that's wishful thinking. For now this is a great EDC option in most parts of the world - including European countries like UK with very strict knife laws.In India, carrying this tool won't raise any eyebrows as it is well within the legal limits prescribed for blades. I would avoid carrying it in Metros, Stadiums etc, where rules are more stringent. And for god's sake never put it in a cabin bag while flying. That has to be the worst way to lose a knife!Victorinox knives are made from Swedish steel that sharpens very quickly. Mine wasn't sharp out of box, but it took me less than 30 seconds to sharpen the blade using my Lansky. Now it is hair shaving sharp. Suggested sharpening angle 20 degrees or lesser.I particularly like the reamer / punch which can be a secondary blade, a last ditch self defence weapon (much more effective than the large blade which can cause more harm than good in self defence owing to its belly, lack of guard etc.)Overall, for the product I will retain a 5 star rating because it deserves nothing less. Victorinox is the world's largest pocket knife manufacturer for the last 100+ years for a reason. Impeccable quality and craftsmanship as always, at considerably affordable prices.
If you want a lightweight pocket knife for urban use, you can't go far wrong with the Bantam. It's incredibly light, strong and feels good to use, with the best-in-class Alox scales. You may be weighing this up against the Cadet. The Bantam is lighter, just one layer thick, having a multi-tool to cover most jobs, like opening bottles and turning screws. The question is whether you want these features split over two tools, plus the nail file.My only minor gripe is that the blade and tool are very close together, so every now and again they catch. It's not a problem, just a minor imperfection. Otherwise, it's a great little knife for everyday use.
I already have a few Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. I’d been toying with the idea of buying this model for a while and I’m glad I did.It has most of the features you’ll need for everyday life and nothing superfluous. It has a sturdier blade than the smaller models, but not large enough to alarm people if you use it in public. It’s also slim, lightweight and something you won’t notice in your pocket, unlike the larger models. It’s versatility and practicality makes it an ideal choice for a first pocket knife. I can see it becoming my favourite from now on.Buy one, you simply won’t regret it.
The electrician is the Victorinox Alox Pioneer, with the small cross head/flat head screwdriver/tin opener tool swapped out for a really handy, beautifully designed little wire stripping knife. I had one way back in the 90s and regretted giving it away. It’s lovely to have one again and enjoy the way Victorinox precision and quality are still maintained. It’s exactly the same neat little package of tools that I enjoyed in my twenties.I have recently been enjoying the Leatherman knifeless Rebar EDC because it carries so many tools in such a sturdy little package and is legal for edc in the uk. The Electrician is an ideal companion to the Rebar edc because I need a legal pocket knife to go along with this and because the Rebar gives me all the screwdriver capabilities I need ( I also carry a small zip pouch with an adapter and a selection of driver bits) so I don’t miss the small screwdriver that’s missing on the Electrician. However, when I am not carrying the Rebar or another multi tool I prefer to pocket my standard Victorinox Pioneer, because, so often, I use the small screwdriver/tin opener tool for Posi and Philips cross head screws and honestly that’s a more important capability for me than having a second knife blade. The Alox range are superior to the standard red plastic vicorinox knives. The tools are more robust, the back spring is stronger and the handle is slimmer, much more durable, really grippy and also very attractive. With the two layer versions of the Alox Pioneer, you get a handle thickness and weight that are sleek and comfortable in the pocket but large enough in the hand to get stronger grip while working. I think the Pioneer and Electrician are the optimum knife based pocket tools for me and maybe the best SAK designs ever.Big shout out to Koch and Köchain too! A warm efficient family business with great customer service and values. Thank you.
