The entire design is well constructed and typical of Victron's superb qaulity. And has a multitude of features using the online ap. However there is one unforgiving flaw, that being the bluetooth range is only about 4 feet, which makes the device totally useless unless you sitting on it. Even with the optional bluetooth extender at an additional 50$ the range is hard pressed to transmit 30 feet to the inside of a pickup truck from a towed travel trailer. Which was my main reason for its purchase is to view my trucks charging of my travel trailer batteries while in transit. And if it loose coms it need to reset and any stored data disappears. The SmartShunt was easy to install and worked immediately without any issues. The VictronConnect app (on Andriod) recognizes the SmartShunt over Bluetooth without issue and allowed configuration for my specific battery capacity et al. I have read reviews elsewhere stating the Bluetooth connection is poor but my experience disputes this and I'd consider it as strong as the Victron MTTP's Bluetooth. Being headless (no physical display) it doesn't clutter the living space in the camper with another gage - it is home after all, not mission control! I would recommend it as a quality product and discrete way to monitor battery usage and capacity.

Bought this to monitor usage and SOC for my lifepo4 battery in my RV. It does that, but has a few problems. First, the bluetooth range is about 4 feet. Any further away and it can't connect. 2nd, if you disconnect the battery, it has to be recalibrate at full state of charge or you no longer get the state of charge info. And lastly, the history function only keeps track for each session. As soon as you walk 4 feet away and lose the BT connection, history starts over. So, it works for going to check current SOC if I go outside and stand next to the battery and if it was calibrated since last time battery was disconnected (which is between every trip in winter). Saves you from having to wire to an interior display, but at the cost of functionality and convenience.

Knowing this and also knowing the excellent reputation of Victron products I went ahead and bought the item. After I installed it the problems with connecting to the app on my android phone started. Some times it would take 6 to 9 attempts before it would connect. I would also close the app and reopen, i uninstalled the app and reinstalled . I restated my phone but still no luck. it would never connect 1st time. i would sit next to the shunt and no go. Then came a firmware update. I though this would solve the problem. Problems was when it would finally connect it would crash preforming the firmware update every time.. I had another shunt prior but it only had 100amp max. running a 3000w inverter required a 300a+ shunt. For the price I am very happy.. Even more so more the connection problem is sorted .
I found the Victron smart shunt to be very inconsistent and inaccurate. Its percentages don’t match the volts most the time. This leads to a sudden outage because you thought you had 70% but only had 40%. tried recalibrating many times and it just can’t stay accurate. And forget about customer support when it comes to Victron.

Bluetooth, you have to be within 1m of the shunt, minimum, sometimes you have to be within 500mm to get it to work, other times you have to reboot your phone to connect. I have $40 devices that perform way way better than this. It disconnects if you move about so you have to leave your phone beside the shunt to stay connected. The manual says the min distance is 20m! Yes, all software is up to date. It is so erratic it is crazy. Now it is at 10 days! Trends (graphs) - you can only get a history while the shunt is connected (with Bluetooth) and as soon as it disconnects you lose the lot, so no history! What use is this? History - can I trust this? Total Charge Cycles = 0, Average Discharge = 0, Number of Full Discharges = 0. All incorrect! So I am thinking "how can I trust the other data?" Some info looks about right but other stuff is so far out it is crazy. Iam not sure what the other options/brands are but I would be researching and looking further afield.
This is a great product from Victron. But I learned something along the way I did not appreciate at the start . My installation is 12v sail boat with 2 battery house bank and 1 battery engine. You can only fully monitor one bank. Using the aux for the second battery only gives you battery voltage. Useful for keeping an eye on the engine battery, with full monitoring on the house.
It works as it should, only problem is that bluetooth in Victron terms will not work with Windows. Bluetooth works great on my Samsung S20 android. Note that the BT signal from the Shunt is not that great unless you are within 3 to 4 mtrs. Victron do not seem to be very interested in fixing the BT problem. To increase the Android up to receive a much better signal you will need to purchase - Victron Energy VE. Direct Bluetooth Smart Dongle for BMV and MPPT Overall I am still happy with the Smart Shunt.

I really like the app and the details from the shunt but it is way overpriced for its single function. It does NOT connect via Bluetooth to their GX products. There is no way to set it up to "just" monitor voltage and amps... you can use it to monitor voltage and amps but you have to set it up like you are connected to a battery, with "AH" and "SOC" and other stuff.
