The monitor is a good weight and size, and the metal back makes it feel nice and durable. The kick stand is really handy, and it has a decent selection of ports. The power pass-through is really really helpful, and it comes with a powerful USB C charger in the box which can charge my laptop and power the screen. They include a fully functioning USB C cable as well as others, which makes this a ridiculous deal. This is such good value for money, I'm delighted.

I have seen other portable monitors in a variety of work and video scenarios - nothing comes close to the image and clarity that this one provides! A suggestion for practical use: Although it comes with a fine protective cover, it is thin and unsuitable for regular backpacks. Ask the fine people at B&H for help in selecting the correct sleeve for traveling. Again, the unit is wonderful in every way and the technical support with Viewsonic is amazing!

Color saturation No built-in battery (not a huge con and expected at this $) Short USB-C cable included Mini-HDMI makes adapting to Display Port cumbersome Slight body flex No manual included (saves some trees, so I'm OK with this one) The first thing I noticed is that the color on this monitor is a bit washed out next to my others, but I would call it entirely passable. This seems to be a thing with portable monitors and I think it's still an awesome value. Brightness is good when plugged into the power adapter, but I need to do more outside viewing with only the USB-C video connection as it reduces brightness to limit power drain. Viewing angles are good with just a bit of darkening at extreme angles. Connectivity is great with USB passthrough for power and an included HDMI to Mini-HDMI cable. The included USB-C cable with a right-angle port on one end is nice, although a bit short for use as a power cable. The really nice thing is that everything just.. works. I even plugged my Samsung s10 into it via USB and it started right up. I had re-plug it to recognize the proper resolution, but I put the blame on the phone for that. My biggest complaint is I went to change the brightness on USB only and soft-locked it. Screen went black and wouldn't come back. You can't access the menu without a signal so I had to plug it into my laptop via HDMI and USB power, change brightness, and re-connect. Huge pain! Overall very happy!

I bought this and the Asus MB16ACE because I couldn't decide which one I should go with. The buttons on the Asus are a bit easier to use than the joystick on the Viewsonic, but I probably just need to get use to it. Screen quality was pretty much on the same for both. The Asus *may* have been a teenie bit more sharp, but I found the Viewsonic a teenie bit brighter. The colors were the same, the blue screen settings were the same. I kept the Viewsonic because I was nit picking over the screen (like I said, the Asus may have been a teenie bit more sharp, but it was really hard to tell), the Viewsonic was a bit brighter. The Viewsonic is more versatile, has speakers, has a stand. The Asus was paper thin, no stand and looked fragile. I'd recommend the Asus over this one ... MoreI bought this and the Asus MB16ACE because I couldn't decide which one I should go with. I had been looking at portable monitors for a few months. All I saw were a bunch of unknown Chinese brands. Most of them have good reviews, but I didn't like them for a couple of reasons: 1. Most of them have ports on one side, and ports/buttons on the other side. This means that you might have problems if you want to use the monitor in portrait mode, because the ports would be on top, and you wouldn't be able to access the buttons on the side that's sitting on the desk. 2. A lot of them have a hole in one of the corners that lets you use a pen as a stand. The hole looks really tacky. Now this brand name ViewSonic VG1655 portable monitor has come along, and it solves both of those issues. It has a multi-directional button on the back that you use to access the on-screen menu. And it has a built-in stand (usable in both landscape and portrait modes), so there's no hole in it. You're paying about a 40% premium over the unknown Chinese brands though, but you also get a 3 year warranty. It comes with 3 cables (USB-C to USB-C, USB-C to USB-A, mini-HDMI to HDMI), a power adapter, a cover, a microfiber cloth, a quick start guide, and a piece of paper saying it should be used in 1920x1080 mode. I'm using the USB-C to USB-C cable with my laptop, so I don't need to use the power adapter. The cables are only about 3 feet long, so they might be a bit short if you need to use the power adapter. I like how one end of the cable has a right-angle connector - that could be useful as a space saver in some situations. What I don't like about this monitor is that the colors are dull compared to my laptop. And this is supposed to be an IPS panel, which is the best type of panel. It's very obvious when duplicating my laptop screen to the portable monitor - colors look vivid on my laptop, and they look dull on the ViewSonic. It's not a brightness issue, I have the ViewSonic on maximum brightness (that's the default anyway). The colors just look dull, and I tried all the different view modes and color adjustments. Green and purple colors seem especially bad - they can look really dark sometimes, and purple sometimes looks like dark blue. (See the photo I attached.) Another thing is the button on the back. The good thing about it is you just need to press one button to access all the menus and change settings. You can push the button in 5 directions - up, down, left, right, and inwards. The bad thing is that ViewSonic designed their menus in an inconsistent manner. For example, on some submenus, you have to push the button in one direction to go back to the parent menu, and on other submenus, you have to push the button in a different direction to go back to the parent menu. Because of that, I found the menu navigation to constantly behave differently than I expected because of the fact that the actions assigned to each direction always changed depending on what submenu I was on. So overall, if you're just using this monitor as a secondary monitor and you're not doing any graphics editing on it, then it'll probably be fine. But for the premium in price and considering it's a name brand, the dull colors is a bit disappointing. After all, the main thing a monitor should be judged on is its image quality. If vibrant colors are important to you, there are other portable monitors out there that advertise a high gamut for around the same price as this monitor.

I have tried various generic brand portable monitors from Home Essentials Direct and returned all of them because of various issues such as speakers not working, or bluish/green tint display issues. Got tired of all that and gave ViewSonic TD1655 Touchscreen portable monitor a shot. So far, I don't have any issues. Works well with my windows PC and Nintendo Switch. Colors might be a bit dull for some, but overall, this is a quality product and does the job. Touchscreen works flawlessly with Windows and also with Samsung Dex. I have not encountered any lag yet. Six stars if I could

The Viewsonic VG1655 is an amazing monitor. It feels solid and the image is bright, sharp, saturated, and truly gorgeous. The screen's 16:9 aspect ratio allows multiple app windows to be displayed simultaneously while remaining readable, even with the Windows Scale display setting at 100% rather than 125%. The rear has a swing-out support that can prop up the monitor horizontally or vertically. The magnetic snap-on screen protector is actually quite rigid when mounted and should provide ample protection. The included cables should handle any connection scheme. My application is as a part of a telescope control computer that can be taken into the field. The computer is a mini-PC that normally runs off a 12Vdc adapter. The monitor can be powered from one of the computer's USB ports. With a 12V/6000mAh lithium battery, the entire package will run for about four hours. Haven't tried it yet with a 12V sealed lead acid battery, but I suspect up time to be longer. Overall, the package is a bit more cluttered than using a laptop, but the performance and flexibility are greater, IMO. Minor criticisms: 1) the included cables are all longer, thicker, and more rigid than seems necessary, but that might be an advantage for some, and 2) built-in speaker volume and quality are a bit wimpy, but they are included and still consistent with how the monitor will be used. The Viewsonic VG1655 is one of the few products I've purchased that so well exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

The Good, the Bad, and the ?????
7 July 2021

I bought this to mate with my phone remote meetings, email and TEAMS. The idea was to avoid bringing my laptop. For the most part this works. My phone (S21 Ultra) requires an app restart if you change orientation. This signs you out. Mostly tho it does what you'd expect and looks very good. There is almost no documentation on how to use the features and the kickstand broke instantly. It is only held on by 3 tiny double stick tabs. Really, thats it. 2 of the 3 just came off when I opened the stand the second time. I used a little JB weld to repair it. Im here looking for more documentation on the units features but all I have found so far is marketing stuff . . . . . I got the cheaper one as I didnt want the touch screen.

This is a great monitor!
31 March 2021

I've been working with it for about 3 weeks now, and I have absolutely no complaints. The size and proportions are great, it's very lightweight given how substantial the construction is, and the way the magnetic cover fits and flexes is really nice. The stand built into the back casing is really great design; it's so much more stable than propping up the monitor against a folded cover like most of the monitors you see out there. I'm not sure what kind of material the cover is made of, but it's strong and very thin and lightweight, and looks and feels like it will last for a long time, unlike leather or other materials that will wear and/or tear rather easily. The monitor profile is so thin and sleek (even with the built-in stand) that I can fit both the monitor and my laptop very securely into a 15" sleeve, and with that great cover, it's well protected. The only inconvenience was the monitor controls; the menu navigation was a little confusing, but once I got the hang of it, it was no problem. You get amazing quality and the trusted ViewSonic name for such an amazing price! I'm really glad I went with this monitor.
