Viltrox AF 24mm f/1.8 Lens Nikon Z Full Frame Auto Focus

Got this lens because I was tired of waiting for the Nikon 28/2.8 SE to be released here in the USA.While the lens is not as small as the 28/2.8, it is smaller than the Z35/50 primes by a little.The sharpness is good, but misses a little bit of the bite that the Nikon OEM primes have. Now, don’t get me wrong, this is fine as it does not mean the lens isn’t sharp. It is, just not as sharp as lenses costing double or more the price.The AF works just fine and it is nice having the choice of using the command dial to control the aperture or an actual aperture ring. Would have preferred to have click stops on the aperture ring, but can see the appeal of it being click less for the video centric shooter.Overall, am very happy with it on the Nikon Zfc. I have only had this for a day so I will update it if I find issues. right out of the box the lens feels well made. it worked right out of the box with my z6ii. focusing is very good, not quite the level of a Nikon lens but not far behind. my biggest issue is the tolerances are super small. for example putting the lens on and taking it off if not as smooth as a Nikon lens. it just has super tight tolerances. the lens hood is very stupid. way to over engineerd. it does not come off easily or go back on easily.

A decent alternative to the Nikkor

I tried this lens on a Z50, Z 6, Z 7 and Z 6II. It functions as expected on all 4 bodies. It feels solidly built. Mounting takes a bit more firmness and dismounting required backing off a bit from full clockwise movement.The lens AF quickly and accurately. All EXIF data seems accurate, even the lens description is complete.Image IQ is very good. It is sharp in the center, but somewhat less sharp at the edges that Nikon's own version until you step down to f/8. Color and contrast are on par.A less than 1/2 the price of a Nikkor, it is a good alternative for those on a budget.

Does not work on Z9 after FW4

The lens was great for the price until FW4 for the Z9 when it stopped working. I've written in to Viltrox asking if they'd update the lens to work with the Z9 post FW4 and no response. Now I'm left with a brick. The aperture cannot be changed when mounted to the camera body, I'm guessing Nikon cut the electronic feed from camera body to various gelded third party lenses.While it worked, it was a slow-focusing lens, but nice to have f/1.8 for low light usage. Now, the only alternative is the $1K Nikkor Z glass.

Fantastic and economic

I purchased Z mount to use on Nikon Z6ii. I photograph events and my main lens is S series 24-120, I needed a lens for low light situations therefore I bought 24 mm viltrox lens. I have no re grates with my purchase.

Great lens for the cost

I bought this lens to shoot the stars with, and let me say how happy I am. This has turned into my favorite Astro lens, replacing my 15mm. The stars came out sharp and clear. Like I said in my other review....love my Z6ii hate Nikons lens prices. With the price point of this I was able to snag 2 Viltrox primes compared to 1 Nikon.

Great price, great lens!

Yes its not cheap like a TTArtisan manual focus lens, but for the price compared to a Nikon z lens, this is an absolute steal. I use it with my OG z6 camera and the images are great. Focuses accurately and fairly quickly. I have not compared it to the 24mm z lens, but I'm quite happy for the price I paid for it. I cannot speak for it in terms of build quality longevity since I've only had it for 1 month, but from the outside it seems very well constructed.

High quality value lens!

I purchased this mainly for video for my Nikon Z6. It performs comparably to my other Nikon brand Z primes (35mm f1.8 for example) in terms of speed of focusing and shooting experience. I haven't pixel peeped the photos taken with this lens but for video it works very well and quietly. Build quality is tight and excellent. Viltrox is a leader in value/quality ratio in my opinion. In addition to being significantly lower price than the Nikon brand equivalent Z lens, this lens is actually a little more compact in size which I like for gimbal use.

Lens broke imme after warranty

Exactly one year after I purchased, the lens broke. I have Nikon z9. It works with all other lenses. But when I put in Viltrox, it changes automatically to Manual focus and loses the ability to change Aperture. I read reviews in many places apparently it's an existing issue. Save your money and get native Z lenses.
