Capacitor dashcam makes a big difference

Finally a high quality dashcam that won't fall off due to temperature changes. Also this dashcam is equipped with a capacitor, not a battery. This is a big deal when the weather is very cold or very hot. Battery in my Cobra dashcam used to freeze up and give errors. It even ruined a few of my microSD cards. Now with VIOFO A119 V3's capacitor, I have had no problems in below freezing weather nor high temperature summer days. No errors anymore. microSD card loves this dashcam.

Excellent value for your money, useful features, no gimmicks. Video and audio quality by far the best in this price range.

Overall I would very much recommend this camera to anyone who doesn't want to spend several hundreds for a dashcam and who desires/requires many must-have functions. No, it does not have voice control and it doesn't come with a fancy app. I still have to press buttons to control it and take out the micro sd card to review footage. Do I want those features? Not quite, I regard those features as gimmicky and luxury options. They don't improve video or audio quality, they don't make it easier to use (imho) or even less likely to break, and certainly not cheaper. I bought this version of the A119 from Viofo a few weeks ago and have used it non-stop since then. Besides a small setup error in the beginning, the dashcam has surpassed my expectations quite a bit. I previously used an Autovox dashcam, which offers decent video quality, however I felt it was still lacking in image and audio quality. I switched the cameras around and now I'm using the Autovox as a rear dashcam, with its second camera recording the interior. The A119 V3 has become my primary dashcam. The microphone is far superior to the Autovox. It even picks up conversations from pedestrians when I'm stopped at a traffic light with my windows down (also, my car is a BEV, that might help). The video quality of the A119 is on another level entirely, although both cams are in the same price range. The nighttime video recordings show very little artifacts, the image remains sharp at all times. There's no glare of fuzziness to the image and the video recording is smooth. While 1080p @ 60 fps delivers some really nice results, I'm still using the 1440p option, because it simply shows more details over the 1080p option. Resolution beats smoothness in this case. The license plates of cars in front of your car can clearly be seen, even those of cars driving by. This is by far the most important feature to me. I attribute the increased image quality to the larger sensor in the V3. The GPS module works as intended. When no GPS signal is received, the camera automatically deactivates the positional overlay of the video being recorded, and, once connection is re-established, activates it again. This takes only a few seconds. I quite like that. The GPS module itself acts as the camera mount and is attached to the windscreen via a double sided sticky pad. I already re-positioned the cam a few times and used up all the pads included with the cam. Any double sided sticky pad will do the job (attachment area is roughly 40 x 40 mm) since the camera is very light. The capacitor power supply built into thecamera lasts a few seconds. It is supposed to ensure the current video is saved in case of a severe collision. I cannot attest to that, I haven't been involved in an accident, yet ;). The Autovox' power supply is a tiny LiPo battery, which have a limited lifespan when continuously exposed to heat - something which is often the case when a car parked in the sun. So you have to know if this an important feature to you. Navigating the menu of the camera is intuitive. It has two main operation modes, recording and non recording. When not recording you can review footage on the cam itself. It's a bit finicky in my car, since the windscreen is a such an odd angle and far forward. I have to take the camera off it's mount to properly use it. Not a big deals though. I'm using 128 GB sd cards (class 10), so when ever there was something noteworthy, I take out the card and plop another one in, in order to review the clips on my PC. The camera has a motion sensor activation, which could prove to be quite useful, i.e. using the camera as a security cam. There's also an accelerometer for collisions, when one is in a country with under-performing people in parking situations. Negative(s): When I setup the camera the first time, the formatting of the micro sd card didn't work. I drove around a day and wanted to check the footage but I was told that the sd card had to be formatted when I plugged it into my USB card reader. I'm not sure if I made a mistake when setting it up for the first time or not. The camera would always show an SD card error when the card was not properly formatted. But I didn't get such an error when using it during the first day and I assumed everything was alright. After a second format, it now works as intended. Playback of clips on the camera's screen included. So it was probably just a case of PEBKAC and not the cam's fault. I have no other criticism. I do not regret buying this camera.

Good easy to use Dash Cam
27 September 2017

I bought this Dash Cam to replace one I had that had failed. This Cam has Capacitors for shutdown power instead of a battery. This makes a difference because the Capacitors can take more heat, and last longer than batteries do. And the non-replaceable nature of the other Cams batteries make it a life of batteries limited product. This Dash Cam has good quality movies and works easly. The instructions are understandable, and the menu driven setup is quick and easy to understand and configure. I especially like that the recording button and indicator light don't flash, like they do on many other Cams. This flashing is distracting to the driver, and should never be a feature on Cams. Oh, and the light can be turned off in the settings if you prefir. I got my Cam with the GPS, and it works well also. It takes about 15 seconds for it to aquire the signal and start showing Speed on the display. In today's crazy world of inattentive drivers, this Dash Cam is a must. I highly recommend this Dash Cam.

Good quality dashcam
7 May 2017

I use it only a month and for now it works well. Better build quality than my older G1W and mini80x (don't remember that I had 805 or 806). G1W is cheaper, but mini80x was more expensive than this one. Video quality is pretty good. I use 1080p mode. Form factor is good, it's not so big for me. Good thing is that it comes with dual usb charger and two mounts that can be installed in two cars. Easy to swap, however it's nice to have a separate dashcam for each car. Lens can be adjusted in vertical direction, however hard click steps are pretty big. Also it can be adjusted in horizontal direction (no clicks), but for me it's questionable feature as it can be adjusted only in small range and fills flimsy. It auto-powers on/off depending on car power on/off and capacitor energy is enough to stop recording and shout down a camera.

Highest Resolution Car Dash Cam with largest 128 GB SD Card Capability and Best Menu System
20 December 2018

Highest Resolution Camera for the lowest price, plus menu adjustable dark to light settings for night driving so you can read license plates. One caution: SD Card must be formatted to FAT32. You can do this in the A119 Menu or download Free Software, EaseUS Partition Backup. Second Caution: When installing insert cable into camera first, and next position camera on windshield where you can easily plug and unplug it before ripping plastic off back and gluing it to the windshield. Best feature: It will accept large 128 GB Samsung SD Cards for tons of recording time before it rewrites over old video. Most car cams are limited to 64 GB SD Cards.

I deliver new vehicles (some very valuable) so it's important to record the trips; however, other cameras failed due to the heat or were hard to watch the videos. The VIOFO is capacitor run, not battery so it's not susceptible to the heat. Also, it works great: the menus are easy to understand and the keys are readily marked and easy to access. I bought a USB drive that you can put an SD card into, now I just pull the card from the cam and take it inside where I plug into my desktop PC. Instantly I have every recorded file and photograph at my fingertips in super-high quality. It has not failed nor even hiccupped once (and the resolution is incredible!) VIOFO A119 Version 2 - 50% ok

I purchased two of these A119 v2 different venders. Suppose to be high rated priced at $90. I think fair value would be $40 with GPS, over priced. The other $25 dash cam I have don't have GPS or speed. Thus I was seeking the A119. Version 2 is the more recent. Can't seem to find GPS in the lower price range. Of the two purchased, one is broken. The good one (don't know which vendor) shows nice gps coordinates that you can paste into google to see the exact location. Has MPH. A very nice feature allows you to unclip the unit from the window and take it in the house to review the video. Getting MENU to work is a trick. I push REC then Menu to get it to display. The bad dash cam A119 reboots all the time, looses settings and the GPS on setting. No clue why. Reset doesn't help. Pretty much non-functional. I mark it up as $90 experiment but if I get another broken one, it is going back to the vendor. I tried different GPS module, different Chip, different temperatures instead of 110 degree in the car. I just can't this to work like the other one. Recommend, well now but hard to find a better one with GPS. Value, over priced should be $40, Quality, half and half. Love the clip into window feature. Regards to all

Checks all the boxes except for the Sony sensor which is a little better at night, but on the other hand it has higher resolution during daytime recording. So far the lens has maintained sharp focus when cold and warmed up. The only other model I was considering was a Street Guardian which was twice the price. There really aren't any comparable models in this price range with a sticky-mount and capacitor. I will update this review if I come across any issues. So far I highly recommend it.

This camera is, by far, the best one I have bought for my vehicle. the video is crisp and clear, the playback does not skip around like my previous dashcam, and so far, the setup has been easy to do. Like many other reviews I have read, I had to download the firmware update, which is easy to do if you google Viofo A119 firmware update. The audio works great, though when played back, it is a little quiet on the computer speakers. I found this can be helped with plug-in external speakers or, if your computer allows it, a Bluetooth headset. The camera microphone is awesome at picking up audio inside the vehicle, as it was able to hear the other end of my phone conversation as the bone conduction headset I was wearing was turned up pretty high to counter vehicle noise. ... MoreThis camera is, by far, the best one I have bought for my vehicle. the video is crisp and clear, the playback does not skip around like my previous dashcam, and so far, the setup has been easy to do. The camera microphone is awesome at picking up audio inside the vehicle, as it was able to hear the other end of my phone conversation as the bone conduction headset I was wearing was turned up pretty high to counter vehicle noise. My passenger could not hear the other end of my conversation, but this camera was able to pick it up, so I would say that the audio pick up is pretty good. My camera came with the GPS mount, and while many have commented on the stability of the camera when connected to the GPS mount, I have found that if you don't move it with your hand, it is actually pretty solid. I accidently went over a speed bump faster than I wanted to, and upon reviewing the footage, found the camera had remained in position and moved with the vehicle and did not jostle in it's mount. I think that this a decent starter dashcam that won't break the bank.
