Great customer service. It’s hard to find companies that respond to you so quickly, respectfully, and willing to help. Even if you don’t buy this product, I definitely recommend sticking to this brand.I didn’t realize that the blender came with the booklet so I purchased one, so when I received two booklets I reached out and they quickly refunded me for the extra purchase! Also, I assumed the blender came with a damper, which it does not. When I contacted the company they explained to me that this type of blender doesn’t require a damper. They went ahead anyway and sent me a damper to compensate my expectation! Both of these mishaps were my fault and yet they did not push back or make excuses, And I didn’t pester or complain or expect anything from them, but they ... MoreGreat customer service. I wanted a way to make our own grain cereal to introduce our baby to new flavors and nutrients without using processed packaged products. I didn't know I needed this container until I had it. In seconds in turns any grain we had in the house into a fine flour that can be used in so many different ways. Not only do we use it for our baby, we also use it for our own oat, barley, rye, rice, etc flour. A must have if you are wanting to avoid processed foods.

My smoothies routinely include 24 dry ingredients,13 of which I've been grinding in a small but good spice grinder. Recently, when Vitamix had the sale on this Dry Grains Container (DGC), I purchased it, with the hopes it would make shorter work and a finer grind. Unfortunately, the volume of ingredients was not enough to reap the desired results: Bummer!Fortunately, when I purchased approximately a pound of Rye Berries, and about the same amount of Fenugreek Seeds (for my smoothies, I don't bake breads), I decided to give the DGC another go. I was astonished how well and quickly this "grinder" processed the rather tough Rye & Fenugreek. It was magic! Although the DGC does not work on relatively small amounts, it's a beast for larger volumes of tough to grind ... MoreMy smoothies routinely include 24 dry ingredients,13 of which I've been grinding in a small but good spice grinder. I love my Vitamix, as it's a true workhorse. But the tall container doesn't fit well under the cupboards on my counter and it is sometimes kind of hard to clear out contents. This container is short enough to sit on the base unit, under the counter. Not only that but it does a great job of blending. I hardly ever use the tall container now. How well does it work? As good if not better than the tall one. And Vitamix overall? Wow. I had to use a standard blender at another home while visiting and it was like night and day. The power and pulverizing ability of Vita Mix machines is amazing. I can make smoothies out of almost anything. Add in some ice cubes and you can turn your mix into a soft smooth ice cream consistency. Make nut butters, whatever. And this shorter ... MoreI love my Vitamix, as it's a true workhorse. Dry container is best for grinding the spices too! Or for making flour.
I purchased the dry grains container with the hopes of being able to grind my own keto flour - flax meal, almond flour, coconut flour, ect. I previously was using the Ninja personal cup 1500w to grind flours, which actually worked fairly well for small amounts, but it would be a fine line not to start making butter at the base while blending. With the way the Vitamix blades were supposed to throw the grains up, rather than sucking them in, I had hoped it would work better for keto flours. Unfortunately, I find I get an even poorer grind with this vitamix container than I did with my Ninja. Unfortunately, I find I get an even poorer grind with this vitamix container than I did with my Ninja. Grains pool in the corners without being spun into the "vortex", and large portions of flax/coconut remain completely unground. Much stopping, shaking, and digging is required to get anything fine enough for flour. Large portions go to butter on the bottom regardless. This is when filling the container slightly less than 1/2 full, so it is well covering the blades, but not overloading. As far as grains go- both wheat and gluten free type grains- it seems to work well, grinding everything into a nice flour. But even my Ninja did that without issue...:SIn conclusion, I am disappointed because the dry container dismally failed in the one purpose for which I actually purchased it. What it IS able to do, is not particularly better than any other high powered blender. The Vitamix blender is a marvelous machine, but I would not say it is good value to purchase a Vitamix with the primary purpose of grinding grains.
I was grating parmesan cheese rinds on my Sam's Club 5300 and it blew a gapping hole in the plastic container! I always use the "dry grains" container for grating hard cheese. As always, I put rind & cheese chunks together in, and get perfect results. This morning, just the rind chunks blew a gaping hole through the polycarbonate! YEOW!
I am disappointed with this purchase. I got the dry container for grinding whole grains, making Turkish coffee and mixing/kneading doughs. It is true that the dry container experiences less sticking to the bottom, but that is the only advantage. The quality of the grind or knead is similar or inferior to the wet container. Here are more details:1- for whole grains, I ran it the maximum recommended time (which is 2min), and the flour did not come out super-fine. It is not powder like. I was afraid to run it longer because the flour became super hot. In comparison, the wet container produced a slightly better output after the same run time.2- for coffee beans, the manual said that you should run it for 25 seconds to get Turkish grind. That is nonsense. I ran it for a minute and I was not happy with the output. You can feel the coffee particles with your hand. It is not a Turkish grind.3- For doughs, the 32oz container is tight, and the dough does not rotate freely inside the container although I used 312g flour/240g water as recommended in the vitamix recipe book. In comparison, I use 500g flour/385g water in the 64oz wet container and the dough rotates inside the container and kneads better. I found my self using the spatula more often in the dry container.Am I using the dry container in a wrong way? I don't think so.My advice is to stick with the wet container and no need to waste money on the dry container.
I'm always amazed at the precise engineering behind the Vitamix. In the case of the dry container, it's very cool to put in a couple cups of whole wheat berries and then watch as the Vitamix turns them into flour and how the grains/flour pushes up along the sides of the container until they get halfway up the container and then fall into the center to be ground up by the blades. In one minute of grinding, every bit of grain/flour goes through the blades several times so that the grinding is super efficient and complete. I never used to bake much because I didn't like purchasing flour at the store and then having to keep it on hand and try to keep it fresh. Now, I don't have flour on hand. After slowly bringing grains to highspeed and blending for one minute, I find the grains to still be coarse enough to prevent good rise in my breads and to leave things like waffles, etc, with a crunch. I get a more successful grind when I use my Grandparents circa 1970's hand-me-down electric mill. Upon following the Spelt flour bread recipe in the Vitamix bread recipe book, the dough was not coming out of the container easily. Turning the machine on and off to mix the dough did little to the top, and created lots of air pockets in the bottom, so I had to spend a lot of time trying to get the dough turned inside the container so it blended evenly. My spatula is chewed up from trying to get dough out from the blades. Cleaning the container was not easy. There was still lots of dough stuck to the sides after following the instructions for self cleaning. I feel this container may be affordable compared to other grain mills, but is subpar and a headache to work with. I'd rather use a stand mixer and kneed by hand to make bread.
I purchased this for dry spices to make home-made Indian & Thai curry powders. The container is great for this. I read that someone had managed to turn 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds into powder. This is not possible. Unless they have a different machine to me? I have the 750. You still have to put enough ingredients into the jug for it to work. I watched YouTube demo, where he took the lid off while it was in action. Again, rubbish, the contents are sucked up into the lid. However, it makes great curry powder mixes, so don't be put off. I dropped a star as it is very difficult to get clean. Harts of Stur is a great company, the delivery was swift even in these difficult COVID-19 times.
