Vittoria Mezcal III Tyre - 29 Inch x 2.6 Inch - Black
The Mezcal is the versatile all-rounder that gets you to the podium, time after time. Ride a combination of terrain? This is the choice of the pros. The Mezcal features a unique low-profile tread that is tightly spaced in the center, for low rolling resistance and durability. Countless effective edges work together to grip on a variety of terrain, while directional siping on each knob make traction in the roots and rocks. The best tires are built with the best casing and compound, and the Mezcal TNT is no exception.Using the proprietary Graphene enhanced 4C compound, the Mezcal attains the holy grail of XC tires; grip, durability, and low weight. Vittoria 4C compound layering technology features separate base and surface compounds, in both the center and the side areas of the tread. This approach allows to fine-tune the flex of the tread-base and tread-surface separately, placing the correct hardness of the Graphene 2.0 compound exactly where it is needed for maximum cornering, climbing, rolling, and braking performance. In addition, durability and puncture protection are also improved, as the robust base compound resists punctures, and provides a stable base for deeper mountain bike treads.

I've had these for a week, and I'm impressed. They are light and responsive, and roll well. They're also grippier than I expected on wet mud and grass. They replaced Halo Twin Rails which were ok but unreliable, and Rubans that should have been good but always felt sluggish - the Mezcals feel much quicker in comparison. Also, and I cannot tell you enough how happy this makes me, they go on easily. Both my previous tyres were such an effort to get on and off - I had to use a vice on the Rubans! - I don't think I could have done a roadside repair.I'm riding old-school with tubes, and using the tyres for commuting over rough ground. So far they seem perfect.

Mounted nice & easy with sidewalls giving confidence before even riding & once on definitely Roll easy. Plenty quick enough on Hard Pack & surprisingly quiet on any Tarmac sections I've had to ride. As per other reviews do get a little loose on deep mud but only to be expected. Personally diggin the Grey sidewall something a bit different & already know I'll be getting another set once these are worn.Thx again Biketart for the great price & service. HPY DAYS :-)

I bought these in 2.6” width to replace the Maxiss 2.8" tyres that came on my hardtail. I wanted something faster rolling as many of my rides involve at least some road and hard packed tracks such as towpaths or similar at some point and wanted to try a faster tyre hoping to gain some pace on this ground without losing when properly off road. I also sometimes commute to work on my bike. I have only ridden them once but it was a very wet and muddy ride so a good test of grip and I was quite worried they wouldn't be that great but they were surprisingly good. They did squirm in the gloopy mud a couple of times but no more than my previous tyres would have and narrower tyres again may have been better but I wanted to maintain some volume being hardtail.I'm not really ... aggressive for a drop bar gravel rig but i go through grass and fields and muck pretty routinely. love how well they take me through it all. 700x2.1 had rubber hairs rub the fork so they likely need to go but only if i can find the 27.5x2.2s first. not noticing the higher rolling resistance on pavement b/c i am too busy looking for places to jump onto dirt.set up required LBS to pop them onto rims to set as my little pump could not seat them. once seated they filled nicely an easily though they still leak through side wall prolly b/c they're the race version. but they air up before rides and keep topped off through rides just fine. am refilling with air every 3 days and have also added a bit more sealant which seemed to help.these have transformed how and where ... Replaced my Mezcal gum walls for the Brazo tires. Love them so far and are great on the dirt and gravel. Tubeless is amazing and can run them soft to get grippy. They're tough on the streets here in LA and go over things instead of having to swing into traffic to avoid obstacles. They are heavy and there's more drag on pavement but do roll well. They feel tough so I am willing to add the weight and rolling resistance. Even around boulder and rocky single track sections, the sidewalls hold up.
The tires are easy to mount and seal up well when tubeless. The gray sidewalls give a whole new look that is very appealing. The tires seem to work well in just about all conditions. As for working with Bike inn....their communication and tracking is awesome. The only drawback is that shipment to the US takes nearly 4 weeks because of customs holds. Be prepared to wait a while for any order. Prices are fantastic though. I will certainly use Bike inn again.
I bought the 2.60 as a rear tire while riding the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. For that purpose it gets five stars. It had great longevity and rolled fast, and the 2.60 size offered a plush ride on chunky roads. I then put a set of 2.35 tires on my Specialized Epic. Again, they rolled fast, but their handling in the corners when leaned over on soft dirt is harrowing. Traction in loose dirt is really lacking. So why did I give it three stars? For bikepacking they work really well. And cross country racers will like its fast rolling tread pattern. For general use trail riding where cornering grip is a priority, these tires perform poorly. So, depending on your intended use, these tires could be really great, or they could really suck. Hence, the middle of the ... I've been using the Vittoria Mezcal G+ tires since they came out and these are the latest iteration of them. These roll very fast on the flats while still having quite a bit of grip while cornering. These last a long time and the sidewalls stand up well to abuse.Depending on how deep the center channel is on your wheels can mean the difference between these being easy or hard to mount. My 2014 Reynolds wheels (hardly any center channel) are really hard and need time and strong levers to work them on. My friends Enve wheels are easy, one lever and quick.I use them all year round in Nor Cal. In dry and hero dirt conditions, I go 2.25 Front and 2.1 Rear. When it gets muddy, I go 2.35 Vittoria Barzo Front and Mezcal 2.25 Rear.Lastly, a note on versions. There are ... There are three versions of this tire.Mezcal black wall, wire bead (the picture of this product) and is the low end, no graphene model.Mezcal Trail Anthracite wall, foldable with graphene is the tire described and I received from Moosejaw and I am reviewing above.Mezcal Race Skin Wall, foldable with graphene that has a lighter casing and less weight.
This tire worked extremely well in muddy conditions, it's designed for dry terrain. These tires gave me the confidence to lean the bike way over and drift both tires around the corner. Although it has light sidewalls, I have had great luck not puncturing them while going over many rocky trails. Running lower pressure made light work of mud and rocks. The one area where these tires become useless going over tree roots on even the slightest uphill, especially when damp. Be careful with this terrain. I hurt myself pretty bad when they slid on a rood while I was standing while pedaling. Hitting roots on straights or downhill becomes harry as well. I still give it 5 stars because it does not claim to be for wet weather and these scary moments are on wet or damp roots. ... To begin, love this tire.I ride primarily in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. Once June rolls around, the upper elevation trails open up as snow melts, and they tend towards the looser and rockier variety. This is where this tire at this width shines.I do want to note that as of this June, I am running the Barzo 2.35 on the rear and have been running the Vittoria Syerra 2.35 on the front. This has become my favorite setup.
