These cost an order of magnitude more than normal fans, but they're worth every penny. My partner used to get woken up by errant rattles and vibrations, but this is no longer an issue.

This fan is NOT whisper quiet on the lowest setting. It's actually fairly noisy. The advertising is misleading with regards to noise levels.In terms of function, it does cool the whole room, which I liked.
The fan is incredibly powerful and is amazing for circulating stagnant rooms, particularly on humid days with low to no wind. The three settings are pretty much "consistent flow (low), stiff breeze (med) and hurricane (high), so it gets quite strong on the highest setting. I've only used it in a standard size bedroom and rarely need to go above the first setting.The single drawback is that on its highest setting it can be noticeably loud. Not even close to deafening, but you probably won't be able to sleep in a quiet room if it's above the second notch. Then again, if it's facing you, you won't need to go higher than that anyway!
Bought this Vornado fan last week for cooling a 4x4 m bedroom in a hot 34 degree day. The fan was quite pricey compared to other brands, yet, despite of its small size was cooling my room quickly. I am quite impressed that it also do not blow all my stuffs away but nicely rotating cool air gently. What a great buy

On the low setting, it's about 3 times quieter, but still keeps our bedroom cool on hot nights. I can angle the fan up on a 45 degree angle and bounce the airflow off a corner of the room, meaning the air isn't blowing directly on our skin. This is especially good for my wife, since fans dry her eyes, but this one gives an effect similar to a natural breeze, rather than a harsh blast of air. I plan to use the same fan to boost the efficiency of our heater in winter. I bought this for its small size as I live in a small apartment to complement the ceiling fan I already have. It is really strong for its size, and generally quiet (I've a couple times forgotten that I left it on at 1 after walking away for something then pleasantly surprised by the cool breeze once I headed back into the room). Even in the hot weather Sydney has been having I've hardly needed to turn it higher than 1 to get the coolness I wanted.
Delivered last week. Read all the reviews before I decided on vornado. Definitely worth the money. I have only had to use lowest speed as plenty of power for small bedroom
i've only a 14 msq bedroom and this vornado suits me well in circulating the air. my space feels more comfortable and a little cooler by taking away the brisbane heat and humidity. the vornado is never switched off to maintain the circulating motion, with fans and the air conditioner when needed. would not say its quiet but the hum it gives is not distracting on speed setting two, number three can be loud i would consider buying a second unit for the lounge room. yes i would recommend the vornado. rex
