How does it work? It writes like a seismograph when doing straight, medium speed lines. Before you think "Well maybe your hand is shakey, try some stabilization!" Nah, I got the gen 1 version of this and it draws fine. I do fine on several tablets with various pens. Even when stabilization is applied with this pen? It's still unusable for art. It's clearly defective, I'm not sure how bad the spread is, but 2/3 pens is not a great sample size but it's also not a fun experience. So, basically if you want this pen or you need a Wacom stylus & this is the option you got? Bring your laptop/tablet to the store, test the pen after buying by doing a few slow/medium speed lines and if it works, grand! You'll probably be set as when it works it feels really nice. But I'm seeing 2/3 bad pens. So I'm not about to say this is something you should bother buying from any website but rather from the store. A working pen: I liked trying my cousin's pen that actually worked. It had low activation force so you could draw very lightly & it's nice. The buttons feel nice, it feels solid. With my own pen, AAAA battery lasts a long, long time. A year roughly. One thing that might make you not want this is, there's no extra nibs included and it's a smooth nib inside. Which some people don't like. I think smooth is the way to go since the rubberized ones feel like you're fighting to drag the pen across the screen.

The driver website listed in included quick start guide took me to a driver that didn't work with my HP laptop. I had to dig around the Wacom support page to find the correct driver. The buttons are very, very annoying. They're placed right where you hold a pencil, so you end up constantly erasing whatever you write until you get used to it. There isn't an easy way to change what the buttons do because Wacom doesn't include a utility to manage the pencil. If they do, I haven't found it yet. Since I did not want to get the active pen 2 that came with my laptop as the pen requires 2 batteries and the pen case breaks easily, I search for many non-expensive options. I found one generic that was about $32 dollars on amazon that does not require pairing and USB chargeable. It worked great for a while but stopped responding to the screen over time. Frustrated, I decided to give the Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus a try. The price is good. After I purchased it, I downloaded the Wacom application on my computer and reset the pen per instructions. One issue with this pen is how slippery it is, usually leading me to slipping and pressing a button accidentally or dropping it. My main issue with this pen is there is a slight lag to it, which is okay with writing but for digital art this may slow you down. The pen works just fine in digital art if you work a little slower. My device operates on Windows 10, there was no need to synch my pen. It worked right out of the box. Came with 1 AAAA Battery that needs to be installed before using.
The Bamboo Smart Stylus Is a “Fooler” in good way. I thought with the low price point it would not perform as well as the other higher priced models but the stylist did not disappoint. Excellent quality both in the pan it’s self as well as its performance on my surface pro. It took a little while to computer it to my computer but that was more on my part since I’m not mechanically inclined. I like it so much I bought one for my granddaughter who will be going to college next year and she can use it now and her high school. She absolutely also loves the product as much as I do. I have absolutely no reservations whatsoever and highly recommending this quality piece of engineering.
The cursor is permanently offset from the screen making it impossible to use. When attempting to write the pen tries to write a mm or two below where the actual cursor is making writing incredibly difficult. I've installed the drivers, restarted my computer, and calibrated my touch screen. I was recommended this by a best buy employee as a good writing pen but it's unusable. The Wacom support isn't any better with their solution to any problem is to buy more of their products. I will never use this garbage company again and I advise you to do the same and avoid this at any cost.

It also seems not to have a battery indicator even on Windows to warn you if the battery is already weak so it pays to have a schedule to change or charge the battery. The site says over 5 months with Wacom AES mode and over 2 months in MPP mode. Overall, it is a great pen or stylus short of being perfect.
I was pleasantly surprised that it worked right away. Apparently the Windows Ink software already on my HP Spectre laptop is configure to recognize the Bamboo Ink Stylus. I did play with the button on the stylus that changes its mode. My laptop didn't recognize it in the other mode. But a quick click of the button and it was reconized again. The stylus is very responsive and emulates the feel of an old fashion ink pen very well. Note that this stylus uses a replaceable AAAA battery. It is not rechargable. But the orginal battery is still working fine. So it seems to have a long battery life. Replacement AAAA batteries are readily availble where I live. So I don't see a problem.
I, like everyone else in the reviews, got it for my 2-1 galaxy alpha laptop. It works for that one, one of the FEW I found out after nearly four hours of looking for a cheaper alternative. It doesn't come with palm rejection but thankfully the laptop has a feature for that. The pen itself is good except for the fact that it randomly stops writing for a brief seconds or two, just for you to completely miss a letter. If you write cursive, not a good choice for you. Other than that I enjoy it, the batteries to replace it are cheap on best buy and long lasting. So if you don't mind the occasional miss, it is exactly as I'd hoped. It does look very nice, although I also wished it had a cap or came with a pouch or some sort of protection.
