This thing is a VA (virtual analog) VESA mounting beast with ridiculous over-specification in every department. This module produces awesome powerful sounds such that even a cursory trawl through it's patches should have anyone working in the many sub-genres of Electronic Dance Music asking themselves why they haven't got one already!

I love it. wow what a synth

The Kyra plug and play with my Mac. I added the Kyra to my Aggregate Device in Audio and Midi Setup device and beautiful sounds came forth! The direct output of the Kyra is even higher quality than USB Audio Input - I would recommend for live or recording purpose to use the Kyra direct audio outputs. Waldorf delivered with Kyra. Kyra will be the backbone for most of my music production.

Sure this looks like a virus TI2 polar but it feels more like an evolution of the Arturia Origin. I still hear people play the origin and it still sounds impressive.If you are going to use audio streaming to your computer with this synth I highly recommend going to a 96k session instead of the 48k. The filter sounds much better and so do the oscillators. I also recommend raising the latency to a higher number. I noticed going all the way up to 1024 samples. Some of the TB303 patches have a lot of detail in you will need the additional latency to stop the audio dropouts.It’s nice to have a lot of the basic sounds you would hear on an RD-800 / TB-303 / Moog Voyager / JP8000. Hooking my launchpad pro mk3 to control the chords makes playing much more fun.Cons: This synth needs an editor and librarian. I could see myself rewriting many presets to my liking and I would like to have Visual feedback to that patch I just made. This synth needs a favorites system where you can easily tag your favorite patches so you can quickly search for them.Overall I am happy with my purchase and will continue to use the synth. For the past three days of owning this synth I have spent 12 hours playing it and also reading the manual.

Just before buying this synth, I also bought an Akai MPC X through Sweetwater. But I've not completely mastered that beast yet. So I've been using my Polyend Tracker (obtained through Sweetwater a few years earlier) to experiment with Kyra. I was very impressed. The Kyra is not a difficult synth to learn and use. The menu diving is a little off putting, but it's really not that bad. There was little that would deture me from getting an FPGA powered synth. There are shortcut buttons that make some of the menus easier to reach. Just enable the FOLLOW button. Within a few days after it arrived I had already created a very pleasing, but chilling sounding, ambient soundscape. And it was better than anything I had previously managed to create with so little effort and time. It sounded like an ideal soundtrack to accompany a chilling movie scene which I entitled "Graveyard @ 3 AM." While I enjoy creating some techno and dubstep jams, I find creating ambient soundscapes much more enjoyable and rewarding. Stuff to chill by in a chaotic and stressful world. For someone looking to buy their first standalone synth, I didn't want to waste my time and money by starting cheap and having to upgrade later to something better and more capable. Better to just buy the best that I'll probably ever need and save myself some time and money. I'm 65 now and not getting any younger, not that much later left for me to waste, lol. This synth is certainly overkill for someone like me just using it as a pastime hobby. But I think I might finally be able to create some quality musical content which some may want to buy. Tranquil soundscapes, for relaxation and meditation. Rhythmic background soundtracks for videos. And some awesome techno and dubstep. Etc. If I like what I can create with this synth, there will be others that will like it too. Read through the owners manual to learn of its capabilities. There's lots of info from users on music interest forums too. There's also many video, but not many do this synth justice. I suspect those using this synth to create income are probably keeping its superiority over other synths a secret. This synth is amazing when it comes to creating complex pleasing and mesmerizing sounds with so little effort. Just start playing and experimenting with it and soon you'll get the hang of things. But do read the manual first, while you wait for yours to arrive. That will save you a lot of time in learning how to use it.
