I bought two of these drivesI transferred photos and video to take overseas and give to two sets of family.By the time I arrived in Europe both had failed [no led or disc movement]and all data was lost. I was in Europe for over a year so could not replace under warranty. A computer engineer said both pcb boards had failed. Since then I have had three other WD drives fail, and will never get another. If your data is valuable , get a Seagate, or better still an SSD. Cannot understand why. others say Seagate is unreliable. I have had five since the early days of external drivesand they still run without issue. Of note I have since 'repaired' two of the older drives by dis-assembling and cleaning / adjusting the spring connections and other contacts.

I just bought this external hard drive for my wife's back-up of all her pictures and documents from her PC. It's nice and small, convenient, and not reliant upon the Cloud/internet connection. 2 TB will go a long way. The cable between the drive and USB port on the PC is sturdy and should last a long time. WD seems to be a good brand. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I don't have any long-term experience with this product. But, so far so good.

DO NOT BUY Useless & corrupt product
31 August 2024

If i could give -5 star, i would give it. Please, please, please who ever is trying to buy this thinking it’s gonna save u some money and give more TB, don’t fall for that trap and maybe spend a bit more now buying than trying to recover data in future. I’m just trying to help anyone who is thinking of buying it, i do not recommend any hard drive from WD at this stage. Hope WD sees this. i bought from WD the second time thinking maybe it was maybe my fault or something and but no, it happened again, even after using it very cautiously. Lost all my data and memories for the past 8 years and there’s one way to still recover one of them which is gonna cost me 2000$ and the other one’s complete corrupt. When the company’s sole purpose for the product is to keep data stored there why does it have to be so much of a problem?? Never buying WD again, I can’t even refund or exchange it cause i might want to recover the data later in the future when i can afford 2 grand. And I normally don’t write reviews but this had to be posted so other people won’t fall for this cheap item.

Ditch Acronis and develop a new WD APP
26 September 2024

The external drive works but there is no available WD APP to set up backup schedules and check drive content. The WD tech said the WD APP aged out and they are working on a new one. My new WD backup hard drive instructions recommended installing Acronis, which had impressive scheduling and content checks but progressively slowed my PC to the point it was unusable. After about a week of using Acronis, it slowed to the point it took over 25 minutes to get to my start screen After doing research to see what was wrong, I found this appears to be a common problem with Acronis V2. I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal. I did confirm my PC has well above the minimum system requirements for Acronis.

Great product, just don't order online...
19 November 2023

This hard drive is super compact and is almost perfect for work and photos with its plug and play design. However, my concerns come with getting the item shipped. My item arrived in a pretty large box with ZERO padding or protection, just the box and then the hard drive packaging inside. If you don't know how hard drives work, this is a major issue as hard disk drives are pretty fragile and aren't made for being tossed around. Luckily, my product works just fine and the delivery time (especially for rural delivery) was impressively fast.

Stay away from this drive.
7 September 2024

I'm a big fan of Western Digital hard drives. However, this drive overheats during large file transfers, then loses connection to the computer. You have to reboot the computer to get the drive working again. If you plan on transferring large files in Windows 10, the speed of the transfer will make the hard drive get too hot and crash. I had to hook the hard drive up to another computer on my local network to transfer files. This is unacceptable, as it takes about 2 hours to transfer ~5 gigabytes of files.I returned the drive as soon as I could. If you want reliability, buy one of the dedicated Western Digital hard drives (A hard drive with its own power supply). I have about 20 of them and they're all solid as a rock.

Usually WD Is good name, but not in this case...
7 March 2023

Bought three of these recently. Had two of these die on me within a month of each other. I expect the third on die maybe next month? Every time I try to transfer a file from one drive to another (doesn't matter which way) or download a file from the internet, it goes dead. Which then forces me to unplug and plug it back in to see if it will reappear. Sometimes it recommends I do a scan & repair, which I do. Eventually, my computer won't even recognize them after being plugged in anymore. So angry with these, I wish I could rate these with negative stars. Never, ever, EVER buying these again. Am going to stick with the 2 TB drives, as I have bought a couple of those as well and they seem to be stable.

WARNING - Fake, Deceptive External Hard Drive
10 October 2024

Warning! The 4TB WD Elements SE external hard drive that I received from China (sold and shipped by yongyuek) was fake. There was a sticker on the box which appeared to have been opened before, indicating it was a 5TB drive . Searched for part number NDBUZGOO10BBK (on the back cover label) and found that this is for a 1 TB model - another . Then I opened the hard drive cover and found small weights and what appeared to be a USB drive-like device, all glued to the inside. There is no hard disk drive platter to speak of which is what I expected. See attached photos. Lesson learned - will never buy from yongyuek again. Walmart refunded the purchase.
