Best buy won't take returns on this item either. I don't blame Best Buy since the device was purchased in December with plans for use for travel in June. The device is also now opened so Best Buy can't be expected to eat the cost. I do hope Best Buy will note on their web page that this is not a securable device so they don't unwittingly support misleading advertising of this faulty product. This is a quote from the email WD sent me today."I understand that you are facing issue while using the WD Security with My Passport Go SSD. I apologize for the incorrect information over the call. Please allow us to inform you that My Passport Go SSD is not compatible with WD Security application and will not work with this application. "They then told me to reply to the email with questions or to call the same number that gave me incorrect information before. I say again. DON'T Buy if you want the password protected security that previous WD storage devices came with. This device is not securable.

Did not work out of the box

My unit did not work properly out of the box. When connected, the green progress bar in File Explorer indicating the disk metadata was loading never finished. Attempts to write files to the drive caused File Explorer to freeze until the device was disconnected.I got mine on clearance from my local store. It was the only one in stock, so I never got the chance to see if mine was just a defective unit or indicative of the product in general. Western Digital is generally known to me as a fine manufacturer. In my 10 years of using WD products, I never had a fault ever occur. So, I am forced to go by this one experience with this SSD and can cannot recommend it.

Reasonably priced storage that can be used as a computer data back up. My computer was running slow so I bought this to move all the video and gif files off to an external storage that was plug and play so I could easily access the files when needed. This storage device works well but I will point out two issues: 1. There is no "eject" command when removing the drive, you just pull the USB plug; no issues so far. 2, The included software "Discovery" for Windows will not install and gives me "Installation Failed " We are experiencing issues please try again later message. I have tried multiple times with no luck. The instruction sheet that comes with the drive says nothing about it or what it's for. Fast but not the fastest SSD. Good for Xbox One X
17 January 2020

I bought this super compact little drive to use with my Xbox One X and works just fine for that. Immediately recognized when I plugged it in, but had to reformat it so it could be used to for games and saved games. (you are prompted to do this)Write speed is quite slow for an SSD but read speed is a decent improvement over mechanical HDD. Which is what you want when launching games or saved games. Just be prepared to wait when copying games from the internal drive to the SSD.Very short built in cord, just a few inches, may not be enough for some folks. But perfect for Xbox. Works on all Xbox One X USB ports, btw, which are all 3.0

I had a good experience with these but at first it was very frustrating. I don't know if it's WD fault, but basically when they came there was no drive letter assigned to them so they didn't show up in the file explorer. But I found a solution so I thought I'd put it out there. Open Control Pannel, type in Disk Management, right click on the drive with no letter, and choose to assign it. You may also want to format it to NFTS instead of exFAT so you can compress files and because it's basically an upgrade. Also, if your files aren't copying, it might be just one corrupted file and the others are okay, so instead of copying the whole folder, copy sub-folders a few at a time so you can narrow down where the problem is and move it away or delete it. Really bad. System Crasher!
7 February 2020

I thought this was a really good price for a nice 1TB SSD.Unfortunately, as soon as I plugged the drive into my Mac it created an unstable system that kept crashing. I tried every format advised and still, Crash, Crash, Crash. As part of the troubleshooting I found that WD had a known incompatibility with a Mac, but could be worked around with proper formatting. Nope, CCC.I even tried adding the drive to a WiFi router. A little better, but then it seemed to interfere with the Mac Time Machine, slowing the machine to a crawl and making even answering an e-mail wayyyyy to long.I have since removed the drive from the system and everything is now back to normal, no more crashes nor Time Machine interference.I don't know how this SSD drive may perform on a ... MoreI thought this was a really good price for a nice 1TB SSD.Unfortunately, as soon as I plugged the drive into my Mac it created an unstable system that kept crashing. The little 64G thumb drive that came "free" with the SSD seems to be working okay, but gosh $150 is a lot to pay for a 64GV USB flash drive.Buyer beware!

Slow shipping takes 1 star off
31 December 2022

Slow shipping takes 1 star off that's it. Otherwise the drive is small, adequate for my needs. Make sure you're okay with slower transfer speeds than others but it is not bad just about half as fast as others. Perfectly adequate for large file storage and not disruptive at all.

Smallest and lightest drive EVER!!
4 August 2019

I seriously couldn't believe how small and light this SSD was. It feels like they forgot to put the drive inside. With the cord conveniently attached and having its own groove to hold it in the back, this is most portable drive I have ever owned and I own close to 20 if not more. It comes with software for both Mac and Windows. I installed the Mac version but I don't think you need to, it just provides more options while using it. The 64 gb drive is a bonus but I am loving the small light form factor of the 1tb ssd. Super portable !! I would highly recommend.

I copied 723gb from one My Passport Go (exFAT) to another My Passport Go (NTFS). The first 1/6 of the copy was at 300 MB/s. The next 5/6 was at 100 MB/s.As a reference: I copied 723gb from one My Passport Go (exFAT) to My Passport HDD. The entire copy was at a little bit over 100 MB/s.This does not make sense. My Passport Go to My Passport Go Copy:Please Advise!

This drive is rather slow, and files take up much more size than needed. Traced this to being a exFAT partitioned drive. This was a patch between FAT32 and NTFS. Problem is file size limits, and when running exFAT, a folder with many files takes up tremendous unneeded space as the way exFAT allocates this. Now if copying a large file, say a disc iso, blazing fast. But folder with thousands of small files, very slow and the allocation size takes up to twice as much space as needed. So....answer is before you use it, format it to NFTS and this will greatly help the problem. Maybe someone with more experience than me can explain it.
