WD Purple Surveillance 18TB 3.5" HDD [WD180PURZ]

My first HDD was a Seagate 1-TB that came with my Hiseeu NVR. The Seagate lasted just over 1-year and Hiseeu would not replace the HDD unless I gave them a 5-Star review which I was not going to do just to get a free Seagate 1-TB HDD. Plus I would never give a 5-Star review on a junk system that I was sold so instead, I bought this Western Digital 3TB not knowing if it would work but once I installed it, it did work right away without even formatting it. I still did format it eventhough it worked as soon as I plugged into my SATA/ power cables. This product does work. It is easy to install. It's easy to format and it was delivered the next day after ordered. I highly recommend this product for your surveillance camera system. It also has a lot more storage than the 1-TB that comes with the Hiseeu system. This HDD is quiet and I cannot here it at all. It has only been installed for about 48- hours so time will tell how long it will actually last but as of now I am very impressed overall. If something goes wrong with it over time I will update my review but for now 5-Stars.

HORRIBLE Warranty service

Don't have any strong complaints about the drive itself. It has worked well as do most WD products. Warranty support though is terrible. The drive died (which drives sometimes do) and I relied on the WD warranty to replace the failed drive since it was still under warranty. After days of back and forth "The drive makes scraping noise when you power it up." "Well have you checked the cable?" and so on they FINALLY decided that the drive needed to be replaced.That started on 5/1. It is now 5/23 and I finally have confirmation that the replacement has been shipped and should be here by 5/29. An entire month to replace a failed drive under warranty!!! I contacted them and had the replacement drive 4 days later.While WD offers a 3 yr warranty I'm seriously considering buying all my future drives from the used drive company. I purchased this as a data storage/backup drive for my desktop PC. My main drive is a1TB NVME drive. The data drive I use for movies, songs, and backups and digital images. Since I am not booting with the drive I don't care about raw performance, nor will I pay for it. With that said I am VERY happy with this drive. It only spins at 5400 RPM, so the access time is slightly slower, but it makes no difference to me. Maximum transfer rate is nearly 200MB/sec. High capacity drives have dense platters and are able to pull data faster. I am a Nazi for eliminating extraneous sound and used to keep my drives inside enclosures to reduce sound. My quietest drive to date is the Samsung HD 503HI, and this is even quieter. This is my first WD drive (have always used Samsung). I cannot speak to the drive's reliability as I've only had it for one month. It is labeled for ""Surveillance,"" so if it's meant to be running 24/7- 365 it is meant to get use in commercial/industrial environments. I think everyone with a desktop PC should adopt this system. It is very easy to backup anything important- save it to your C: drive as well as your backup E: drive or whatever. If one your main drive goes kaput you have the backup to pull your saved data from. You can use flash drives for additional redundancy and portability, but in my experience they are not so reliable.
