WD Ultrastar DC HC310 4TB 3.5" Hard Drives
As the industry evolves to develop purpose-built solutions for growing data storage requirements, IT managers continue to rely on lower capacity drives that are economical to acquire, yet deliver quick and reliable data access for traditional data centre applications. Ultrastar DC HC310* is a low-capacity HDD, with 6TB and 4TB offerings, that helps address economic and access requirements of many traditional IT workloads. Low capacity drives also help address architecture limitations. Part of our mid-capacity DC HC300 series, the Ultrastar DC HC310 is designed for traditional storage and server applications as well as distributed and scalable computing, including block and file storage architectures, providing fast 7,200 RPM performance and lower acquisition cost to help ease budget constraints. Ultrastar DC HC310 is offered with either 6Gb/s SATA or 12Gb/s SAS interface in a choice of 512e or 4Kn formats. A 512n option is also available on 4TB models to support legacy systems with native 512-byte block sizes.

With WD's acquisition and brand integration of HGST complete in 2018, was hoping for consistency from the Ultrastar series, but with this DOA I will now wait until their next generation models, or perhaps late-2020/2021.

Pros: Cost per GbCons: Slight noise when seeking
I did talk to WD and NewEgg support as this drive said it did not come with a warranty on the WD support page. It turns out this drives serial number is inventoried through the HGST and not the WD system so the drives warranty information would need to be verified there. After learning this information I confirmed that the drive I received qualified for the 5 year warranty on the HGST site. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the two companies merge resources and all warranty information will be verifiable on one platform. It is important to note that WD only warranties drives purchased through their authorized vendor list so purchasing from NewEgg as the direct seller should be enough to guarantee the warranty.
purchased from vendor Server part Deals and once installed in my drobo Vendor ID for hard drive is HGST not WDC for western digital. Hard drive is already installed in my raid very disappointed at purchase
The sound is really quite annoying.... But only one some of the disks. If you have to spend hours around the equipment these are probably not the disks for you. I've been having a lot of issues with WD disks lately and I'm hoping these will prove better. The performance is where it needs to be (so far) but I'm weary as they are not all consistent. They each seem to make different pitch noises and have slightly different speeds - doesn't give me confidence. I'll make a point to revisit this if they fail to live up to at least their warranty period. I'll give the benefit of the doubt for now and take off two eggs - one for inconsistency and one for the high pitched noise / scratching sounds.
