Handles prone to melting

I have two of these; in less than 3 months, one plastic handle melted off completely, and the other is severely deformed. This despite following the instructions that were included. I boggles the mind that a product intended for holding flaming coals can’t handle the temperatures that the product produces.

My experience has been that only 1 fire starter under my Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter is required to have my charcoal ready to go in about 15 minutes. Upon lighting the Chimney Starter directs all the smoke and soot up and away from the sides of my grill. I will not go back to my old method.

I have an old fire starter chimney that has lasted me for over 10 years. Finally the spot welded handle broke off. so I decided it was time to replace with a new one. After much deliberation of design, I came to the conclusion that my old one never had the ventilation this fire starter had. so I decided the price was right & could only benefit from improvement. After all Weber has been making bbq grills for as long as I can remember. So after using for the 1st time, I noticed my time was cut in half to achieve that ashen look when the briquettes are ready to use. I recommend this product for those that love the taste that charcoal grilling provides. Closes in the difference between gas grills instant start & the advantage of flavor. Thanks Weber!

My favorite charcoal starter!
6 November 2022

I've never found a better way to start a charcoal fire! I like this so much that I bought a friend one for her grill, and she loves it. Never fails to light the charcoal. And without the smell, chemicals, or fire risk of expensive fluid starters. A few crumpled paper sheets cost nothing. And, if you have the 22" Weber kettle, filling the starter to the top provides what I think is the perfect amount for most cooking work. And it has lasted for 20 years.

Now that’s a fire!

Have you ever had food that had a funny taste to it, but you just couldn’t figure out what it is? That is until you see the person in charge of the grill get wide eyed excitement when they squeeze a half bottle of lighter fluid onto the charcoal with food on the grill! Everybody has that one family member that says the grill isn’t hot enough, and loves to see fireballs shoot out of the grill. Well the Weber rapidfire chimney starter can put an end to that and that funny tasting food. No more worrying about buying lighter fluid or storing it in a safe place ever again! Fill it up with your favorite charcoal, stuff the bottom with paper or old newspaper, light it in the bottom of your grill, and wait for the charcoal to get white hot. Buy one, you won’t regret it.

Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter- Portable
27 July 2021

Worked well, but the charcoal capacity is really far too small for our Weber 47cm diameter barbecue, despite what the makers say.A lot of people swear by using a chimney starter to light their barbecue, but personally, I didn't find that using one gave us any real advantage. We have always got good results by using enough top quality charcoal, and making sure it is properly, and evenly, ignited in the first place. Using the chimney starter actually slowed things down, as due to its small capacity we had to add more charcoal and wait for it to burn properly before we could cook.To sum up, this device would probably be fine for using with a very small barbecue, especially with poorer quality fuel, but it's not for us.

Weber should paint flat black high heat
15 March 2023

I have bought a few of these as I frequently bbq. As other comments the rivets rust and break. You can throw a nut and bolt in there. Constant issue that WEBER SHOULD CHANGE. I don't leave my chimney out in the elements once it has cooled. Here's something brand new gray then black high heat paint. Once you've used it you can just use a few coats of flat black. Looks great I think.

I bought a cheapo chimney starter before I sprung for this one and the cheapo starter almost burned me. Beware of chimney starters with cheap handles that are just pressure fit into wood, instead of screwed on tight like this one. The cheap one I bought was a safety hazard as the handle came apart while I was trying to dump the coals. Be safe with your coals and get a chimney with a sturdy handle.Plus you can flip it upside down to light a small amount of coals for smoking. The wire thingy that you are supposed to grab with your other hand to help tilt is good if you are not comfortable flipping it with one hand. I removed it as I light this thing upside down all the time and it gets in the way.All you need to light it is 1 match and some newsprint or brown ... MoreI bought a cheapo chimney starter before I sprung for this one and the cheapo starter almost burned me. looking for a simple non chemical charcoal starter

I wanted to get away from chemicals to light our Bar B Que, I remembered my father-in-law had a cylinder starter he placed newspaper underneath and then poured the charcoal inside the top. I bought this today and crumpled a few sheets of newspaper loosely just like I had remembered. It smoked excessively at first so much so I thought about getting a blanket and doing smoke signals seriously. The paper was gone it was still smoking I wasn't sure if this was a fail or not. I walked in the house a few minuets later I returned to find flames and the charcoal glowing. Oh yes it was perfect and in less time then the pile takes. I was so impressed I did it again only with a full load of charcoal same impressive results with no chemicals just a few sheets of crumpled ... MoreI wanted to get away from chemicals to light our Bar B Que, I remembered my father-in-law had a cylinder starter he placed newspaper underneath and then poured the charcoal inside the top. The cylinder is made heavy-duty it's well ventilated to get those coals heated incredibly fast. It is worth the money and saves time. I love it!
