I wanted to be able to cover my grey with a softer brown than the medium brown I had to use in another product. It looked dark brown. Any lighter colors I tried in the past
would barely take the color near the root, so my part would look different then the rest of my hair.I was able to strip my old darker color and use Roasted Pecan 7NN to get the
softer brown that resembles my natural color from years back. The color is even, all the way to the root of my hair, and looks and feels natural!

I used this color on a client, but the pigment was a lot darker than it should have come out. Was a beautiful level 4, but not the color it should have been. The 1:1 consistency
makes the mask hard to give total coverage resulting in the use of more product. I noticed the product tends to clump.

Great grey coverage
27 November 2023
This product provides the best grey coverage. Taking one star off for two reasons. I do find I have to use twice as much color than the gel color because it’s a 1:1 mix and because it is too thick. I find it hard to cover all of my hair because it tends to clump up rather than evenly distribute over my hair so I have to work harder and longer to get all hair done. I have very thick hair so it might be easier for people with less or thin hair.... Show more

Great grey coverage
3 January 2024
This product provides the best grey coverage of any color I’ve tried. The only downside is that it is super thick and is very difficult to distribute through the hair especially if you have thick hair thus the reduction of one star. With every other color I’ve used the grey at my temples would show through after the first wash. This one does not do that. The color I use is 6 NN Toffee and it is a very dark brown color. I’ll be looking to try other colors to get it one shade lighter. The price point is on the high side since I need two tubes. Other online retailers have it for. Few dollars less. Even when Sally has it on sale the other retailers cost less.... Show more

Innovative, excellent product!

My SA at Sally's was excited to have me try this because I'm "famous" for having the world's most stubborn grays. She just completed training with this coloring, and she's looking forward to doing her own hair with it this weekend. She explained to me about this product's "masque" texture, and by golly, it really is more like a "treatment" than a typical hair dye process. My hair is naturally darkest-brown/black, and my "standard" color has been Wella 3RV Black Cherry, which keeps my hair black, but gives me copper-red hightlights. My gray hairs are very noticeable when they grow in, because of the contrast of color. Since there is no color equivalent to Black Cherry, and I don't want my hair to be a "flat" black, I decided to do a 2 step process with Tango, for ... MoreMy SA at Sally's was excited to have me try this because I'm "famous" for having the world's most stubborn grays. My hair is naturally darkest-brown/black, and my "standard" color has been Wella 3RV Black Cherry, which keeps my hair black, but gives me copper-red hightlights. My gray hairs are very noticeable when they grow in, because of the contrast of color. Since there is no color equivalent to Black Cherry, and I don't want my hair to be a "flat" black, I decided to do a 2 step process with Tango, for highlights on the top layers. I used 4NN, Espresso, with 10 volume developer on my roots (30 minutes), and as a color refresher on the rest of my hair(20 minutes). For highlights, I tested a patch with 30 volume developer with 4R Brown-Red (even though this is level 4, it's much lighter than 4NN), and another patch with 30 volume developer and 7B Bourbon Brown-Blonde. With 30 volume the 7B took my patch test to strawberry blonde/blonde! (Not at all what I wanted, but if you have dark hair and you want to go light, this is a brand to try!) The 4R Brown-Red turned out to be just what I wanted: bronzy-reddish glow on an incredibly shiny black base. Tango left my hair de-frizzed, smooth and soft. Its scent is not as strong as other colorings, and it absolutly does not have that nosehair-singeing, headache-inducing noxious odor that clings to hair for days. Tango smells kind of flowery; not unlike a scented shampoo. It has a thick, creamy consistency that doesn't drip at all, but rinses out easily. Unlike Wella Color Charm, which gives me 2 colorings per tube, I needed to use an entire tube of Tango to cover my whole head. Since my grays are gone, and my hair is in such nice condition, this is very worth it.... Show more

New 2 Tango - 6BC vs 5B
13 March 2018
I have medium to dark brown hair naturally, but with more gray hair coming in, the store brands are starting to take a toll on my hair and really drying it out. So I thought I would try the Tango line as the browns have nice tones on the swatches and I am trying to achieve a nice color balance between my natural brown and the grays, so I first tried 6BC with the 20 developer and it initially came out a little dark for my preference but after a few washes it gave me a nice medium brown auburnish tone but not brassy. So I went back and was tempted to try the 5B as it looked like it had a similar tone but a truer brown on the swatch. I applied it with the 20 developer and it immediately started turning blackish so I rinsed out after only 10min and it stayed pretty black and didn't look like the swatch. After several washes it has lightened up slightly but is still a little too black. I am wondering if I should have used the 30 developer to get better lift from my previous application with the 6BC, or a little extra of the 20 developer as I think not all the measured developer drains from the measuring bottle. Needless to say I was much happier with the results from the 6BC and will use it again but not the 5B. Both applications were easy to use and although the 5B was too dark, both 6BC and 5B are color rich that applied evenly and made my hair feel very nice and shiny. I will keep trying until I get the right color and developer for me as I am happy with the Tango formula.... Show more

NN1 Black Licorice
11 January 2022
Let me preface this: the 1 star reviews are a cautionary tale of why you do test strands before using the product on your whole head. Any stylist will tell you, the instructions tell you: Do a strand test first! That being said, and with the added note that allergies to hair dye can develop even after years of dying your hair (any allergy to any thing can randomly develop, please use caution), but I've been using the NN1 Black Licorice for many years, now. There's no fade, it has a perfect pitch black deposit, and my hair is shiny and healthy looking and feeling afterwards, every time.(Also, anyone complaining the Wella dyes provided zero lift: they aren't supposed to. Dyes deposit color, they don't lift color. I am a natural light golden blonde, for reference here, so if you have my hair color or darker and want to go black, this dye is a great choice. (But do remember: when going black, please thoroughly consider your choice as bleaching back can take several months sessions of bleach, and between bleaching sessions your hair will be multiple shades of red. So if you do choose Black Licorice, realize how difficult it can be for you to transition back. You may even need to cut several inches and let it grow back from there.)... Show more

Superb product

This dye is semi-permanent or 'quasi' depending on what volume emulsion is used with it. For damaged hair the lowest volume emulsion, 1.9%, is best - this will only deposit the colour and not lighten the hair at all. Digital scales help to make sure the ratio of 1 part dye to 2 parts emulsion is achieved correctly. This mixes up to a lovely creamy texture which goes on to the hair really easily and doesn't drip. It has covered my greys well but subtly and given the hair a very natural-looking colour with a few golden tones among the ash. When I washed the product off I was surprised how nice the hair felt, and although I conditioned after using, I credit this product with leaving a nice shiny finish on the hair. Altogether a brilliant product. Comes up a tad darker than one might expect but may lighten after shampooing. A great product, absolutely chuffed to bits with it. Will definitely purchase again....
