Bring old formulation back!

I had the same experience as the reviewer above, re: different formula. My cat is not only picky, but also has digestive problems. This specific brand of cat food (in select flavors) USED to be one of the few canned foods he would eat that didn't make him sick. Soon after the change, he started throwing up again. I compared the ingredients, and they ARE different: more thickening agents like guar gum and xanthum gum. The beef is definitely different because beef was OK before, but makes him sick now. I can't buy the new ones any more because I can't risk my cat getting sick. I really wish they still sold the old formulation.

Cats like it but small portions

I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Tiki Cat's shredded chicken, and this is an OK substitute. I use Wellness cubed chicken food intermittently to make feeding our cats less expensive, and they liked this Wellness type too (after some hesitation by one of the cats). But it's a smaller portion, so I end up giving our two cats 1.5 cans (the 5.3oz size) to share each time instead of 1 can. The other Wellness cat food is 5.5 oz, and Tiki Cat is 6oz, so 5.3oz is just not enough. The food seems to be high quality, made up of shredded meats. But a lot of the volume is this "jelly" that the meat is mixed with, so it seems that you don't get that much meat for your money. That also probably contributed to why out cats were still hungry after sharing just 1 can, ... MoreI was looking for a cheaper alternative to Tiki Cat's shredded chicken, and this is an OK substitute. I have researched cat food for quite a while now. Cats are carnivores, meaning that their bodies are not designed to process grains, etc. They also have a tendency not to drink as much water as they should (since, in nature, they get much of their fluids from food). Raw meat is ideal for cats (see recipes online), but my cat has IBS and is also finicky. She just loves the shredded Wellness brand (chicken, and chicken & beef). It's grain free, and contains needed liquid ("gravy") to keep her kidneys functioning properly. Our vet was pleased that we had researched proper cat nutrition, and she approves of the Wellness brand, along with a few other grain-free brands. This is a very nice cat food.

Diarrhea
17 February 2022

As soon as I fed my cat this, she started getting runny poo and it wouldn't stop. It has been 3 days and she's only getting worse and I believe there is something wrong with the ingredients. My cat is not a picky eater at all, she is very open to trying new things and while she scarfs this down, she goes to the bathroom about 3 times after each time she is fed any of the "Wellness CORE Signature Selects Natural Grain Free". She has no issues with the Paté varieties, but I am extremely upset about this outcome. I will be returning all of what I have left.

Formula has changed - ingredients not the same!
28 July 2017

Our kitty is a very picky eater but she accepted a few of the Wellness select flavors, particularly the Chicken & Turkey. In our most recent order, I noticed that the food now came in cases of twelve with a different can (no more purple tops). When we opened a can, we could immediately see and smell a difference and our cat walked away from the food. My wife called Wellness and they said that only the mfg plant and packaging had changed but if you compare a purple top can with one of the new ones, you can see the ingredients are not the same. Cats are notoriously finicky so why would they change the ingredients? I know, to reduce costs and increase their margin.

Not Their Favorite Anymore
21 April 2018

My 2 cats used to LOVE this food....and this particular flavor. With the formulation change, they lick the gravy and that's it. They need to eat, not just lick.....this is such a disappointment. Seems like the "shreds" are just compacted pate....which they hate. Looks like they took some questionable ingredients out, which was good, but whatever they added into it just isn't what the cats like. Not even the Chicken and Liver and Chicken and Beef varieties. Really sad about this change.

One will eat it, one won't

I have 2 cats (female is about 4, male is about 4.5) and we feed them Wellness Core Original Formula cat food. They absolutely love it, and sometimes we give them some of the Wellness Core Chicken, Turkey & Chicken Liver or the Salmon, Whitefish & Herring canned cat food which they also absolutely love. This last week I was in a Petco that didn't carry any of the Wellness Core canned cat food but they did have a selection of these Signature canned foods. Since they were grain free and on sale I bought a variety of flavors. So far, our male cat will happily eat all of them but our female will not touch them. It wasn't her appetite, she was quite happy to eat that one. The strange thing is that if I were to call either of them a picky eater it would definitely be our male and not our female.Since both cats will eat it I will continue to buy the Wellness Core canned cat food, but this one seems like it has decent ingredients and our picky eater definitely enjoyed it. If you are questioning whether or not to try it, imo it is worth the risk.

I can only echo the reviews here, although they date back to 7-12 months ago. My cat was crazy in love with this brand/flavor until about 3 months ago (Dec. 2018) and label changed. She is smarter than me because she just refused to eat it and walked away acting as if it smelled like garbage. I kept opening new cans thinking maybe it was a bad batch. But now assume it must smell/taste like garbage. This is so sad an outcome to a formerly good product. What's wrong with you people, you have a great thing going and look for ways to wring out another few cents of profit. It is a disgraceful way to run a company. Shame on your business ethics.

Both my cats gobble this food down happily. I love that this Wellness cat food contains real shredded chicken as the first ingredient and that the rest of the ingredients are vitamins and minerals. Petco has great prices for this food and it is delivered to my house in 1-2 days after I order it. Excellent service. My cats even love the Petco boxes their food comes in. They use them as a new fun place to sleep in or to just hang out.
