This was purchased as part of an upgrade for a rarely used laptop - so cost was a factor. Normally I would purchase high-end Samsung SSD devices and these have always been plug-and-play with the upgrade completed rapidly without issues or frustration.Half-way through the current upgrade I was starting to regret not paying the extra money. Cloning software had to be downloaded from the WD website (first waste time finding it), then this software would not recognise the WD device plugged into my trusted USB adapter. Much searching of the web later I did manage to get the device recognised and the cloning completed with moderate ease. It now works as expected.So if you are cloning onto WD devices regularly, or have time on your hands, then this is a good purchase.

BEWARE the SA510 models!

I purchased two 1TB SA510 drives on August 8th, 2022. One died on September 29th, the next died on December 1st. I originally brought the first failed drive back to the store I purchased it from and they rolled their eyes. Apparently, these SA510 drives have a bad chipset and suffer from an extremely high failure rate. Purportedly the worst of any big-name manufacturers. I have WD drives in my computer that are closing in on 20 years of age. This is a big disappointment.DO NOT PURCHASE SA510 DRIVES! You'll be wasting time and money paying for RMA (warranty) shipping and waiting weeks for the replacement.

Dead after 2 months, slightly used

Windows gave the error from the first image, and upon restarting the message from the second. Not longer seen in BIOS.Installed in the M2SATA-USB adapter, Windows no longer sees it.The adapter is good, tested many times, including when transferred data from older SSD to this one.Now the stor refuses the warranty claim because the label is no longer attached to the product, but on the packaging.Please tell me how could I install the SSD in an Asus having its own foil with radiator purposes. Tried initially as is, and temperature was beyond 70°C. With Asus' radiator foil, temperature rarely surpassed 55°C

Do not Purchase WD Blue SA510 High Failure.

The SA510 Western Digital Blue has a high rate of failure and performance issues. We have installed many of the previous generations of the Blue series SSD from the 2nd Generation with no issues many over 5 years old. The SA510 WD Blue drives we are seeing many DOA from the box with horrible I/O and performance issues in Windows with 100% drive usage the locks the computers up. You can replace the drive with the previous Generation WD Blue drive and performance is excellent. We have also found that drives within SA510 3rd gen series also perform different and all were given the latest firmware. Extremely unreliable and just died out of no where

Added this as a second drive to store data , Initially it was good but slowly my pc started to develop stuttering . After less than 3 months it literally died . The pc motherboard wont even recognize it. During a file transfer it suddenly froze, then 1 of the partition became un usable and asked to be formatted, the format never could be completed and then suddenly entite drive with all partition just vanisehd. Not even listed in the bios anymore.Stay away from wd ssd. Their hdd used to be super reliable but ssd is the worst i ever used. Even worse than non brand units.

First Experience With SSD Install

This was my first experience with installing an SSD. My old HD was an old 7200 rpm that recently started acting up. I figured I had better replace it before I lost everything. WD made it simple with the Acronis True Image software which was included. The only downside, and the reason for 4/5 stars is that there were no cables included. Luckily, my current cable had a piggyback SATA connector on it. It has most certainly cut my windows boot time to a quarter of what it was. I highly recommend upgrading your old bulky and outdated hard drives to an SSD like this one. Silent and fast!!

Great basic SSD

This is a great basic SSD to upgrade an older laptop or desktop to breathe in new life. Swapped this out for the slow mechanical drive on a laptop that was otherwise a pretty good machine (i5 processor, 12 GB RAM) and it was night and day for startup times, etc.I've installed many Western Digital SSD's to upgrade older computers and always been happy. I appreciate you can download a free copy of Acronis (WD Edition) to clone your hard drive. Oddly, for this particular upgrade Acronis would not work so I had to download a trial copy of Macirum Reflect, which worked a charm. Great value and performance, dead after 2 months

Cloned my 5400 rpm HDD to new SSD for a HUGE boost in Win10 performance. Drive easily recognized by BIOS and performed great for 2 months. Today it gave up the ghost and is no longer recognized in BIOS. Installed old HDD and SSD not recognized by Windows either. Tried in another laptop to verify it was the SSD and not the SATA connection and still not recognized. I've used Western Digital drives since the time hard drives were measured in megabytes and they've always performed flawlessly for many, many years. Maybe the SSD was struck by some neutrinos from a coronal mass ejection? Filling out the RMA form now. Hopefully the replacement will last longer.

Not a Samsung...

This is my first, and probably last, WD SSD. I think the drive might be fine, but it didn't come with even a 3-step quick-start guide to transfer another drive to it to get going. I looked around on the WD site and didn't find anything. And I've been chatting with WD tech support for about an hour trying to understand if WD even offers this software/information. Samsung provides a program you run, everything transfers, you physically swap the disks and you're off and running. If WD has anything similar, they sure hide it well. I can't imagine they don't have at least basic instructions and software for a consumer product. I'm fairly PC-literate, but I'm giving up and going back to a Samsung drive.

Formatted and configured it for the software and it worked great initially, but the next morning I was receiving errors that the HD wasn't available. Indeed in Windows Disk Management the drive said it was once again an unformatted drive.I reformatted and wrote a script to copy files to fill the disk, then empty. I was not able to successfully repeat this cycle more than two iterations before the disk would become unrecognizable again. I then repeated the test using a different computer and confirmed the result.I returned the drive and purchased one from a different manufacturer which has been going great for several weeks.
