Westinghouse 54cm Electric Freestanding Cooker - WLE522WC
The Westinghouse WLE522WC 54cm Electric Freestanding Cooker has effectively merged an 80 – litre fan – forced oven, a separate 32 – litre grill, and a four – zone coil cooktop into one compact and space – saving design. The main oven has five shelf positions and is lined with enamel for easy cleaning, while the rear incandescent lamp also adds to the visibility inside the cavity. The separate grill has three shelf levels and is supported by side racks for added stability and convenience. The cooktop, as seen in the picture, has four coil hotplates that are set into a white enamel surface and are controlled by knob controls at the back. To keep track of cooking, it is made easy by the use of a 60 – minute mechanical timer. There are two layers of glass on the oven door for safety and insulation. Made with durable materials and suitable for everyday use, this freestanding cooker gives you the option of cooking in different ways, but it still takes up only 54cm of the width.

For the past 30 years I have been spoilt with what has undoubtedly been the best free standing oven that was made in the time. A Simpson 2000 60cm. I have been putting off the purchase of a new oven in the past couple of years due to limiting factors. My oven gap is 800 so a 900 which would be great would require a kitchen refit and that is not practical. We don't have gas appliances nor natural gas so again limitations. The ovens today, apart from the 900 are far to small - we have family of 17 most of who come for dinner on the weekend so oven space is mandatory and again I have been very lucky with the old oven space of 87 litres. Then the old one died and decision had to be made. I have never owned a ceramic top, I would have preferred hotplates - but it seems ... The ovens today, apart from the 900 are far to small - we have family of 17 most of who come for dinner on the weekend so oven space is mandatory and again I have been very lucky with the old oven space of 87 litres. Then the old one died and decision had to be made. I have never owned a ceramic top, I would have preferred hotplates - but it seems they are not made in the 600. After looking around the Westinghouse WFE647SA kept coming up for looks and functions in the reviews. So I took the plunge and purchased it from Appliances on Line. They were the only ones who seemed to have any in stock - The GoodGuys rang the supplier and they were totally out so I purchased from AOL. Fantastic service with sale and delivery - fautless. The oven looked great, as with all ovens they only come with 2 racks so I kept some of my old 600 racks to fill the gap and that is when you see the massive difference in oven capacity. The new 60cm oven is only 80litres and the old shelves are about 5 cm wider than this oven - I felt devestated as my cooking trays to feed my family no longer fit in this "little oven". However, this is something I will have to live with and the other features on the oven outweigh it (almost!. ) The hotplates are fast and efficient. The reason I prefer electric hotplates to gas is the heat retention after you turn it off. When you turn gas off the heat is instantly gone. The heat retention after switched off is shown by a light on the top which is fantastic, this light can be on for sometime 15 minutes after. Only slightly but it shows the power. I have tested the oven for heat accuracy and for as precise as 175 can be found on the dial, it seems to be pretty spot on. I am not sure how to describe the heat but things don't seem to crisp up. It cooks but roast spuds don't crisp. The other thing we have all noticed is that as soon as the food comes out of the oven and goes straight onto the plate it is cold. This is something I am going to really watch and test. I looked at all videos on cleaning the ceramic top showing how to use the ceramic cleansers and don't use anything scratchy, it even comes with a blunt scraper to clean spillages! Don't use it. My strong recommendation is get a product called Ekoworx. This is a not toxic, natural product (Google and check it out yourself). This is the most amazing product to use on your oven and keeps it spotless. It dissolves fats, so as soon as the top cools down you spray and wipe with a soft cloth. Spillages take maybe 2 or 3 sprays, just leave it to dissolve and then you wipe it off. It sparkles all the stainless and wipes the oven clean after use especially a roast - without any chemicals involved. Without this product your stove will very quickly become spotty and dirty. Overall I am extremely happy with the functions and the look of the stove. I like the way the light turns on when you turn the oven on. Would I recommend it - yes.

Bought the model because the dial's are at the back. It's been great, better insulated than I thought, love it has a separate grill. Keeps temperature well, easy to see in oven with good lighting. Overall very happy with it. And thanks Good Guys for great deal

The enamel finish is incomplete in two places. Its a lightweight stove that needs to be clamped to the floor, front and back, so it doesnt tip over. This is a safety feature but my old Simpson was substantial enough that it didnt tip over and didnt need to be fixed to the floor which meant I could pull it forward to clean behind it. Theres some sort of loose cover thats supposed to go under the stovetop elements and above the grill elements, I think, but it wont fit properly. The Good Guys have agreed to replace the stove because of the faulty enamel but I had to press them to cover the electricians cost of removing the current one and rewiring in the new one. The seal is attached to the stove at four corners only. Its loose around the perimeter and can be plucked like an elastic band. Apparently chefs required this because its easy to replace. I would hope it wouldnt need to be replaced. My old Simpson lasted 15 years and I never needed to replace the seal. On a positive note, its an attractive looking stove better than the old Simpson. Re the design, its got that annoying design where the panel with the control knobs projects forward above the rear elements which means only low pots will fit on the rear elements. Higher pots bump into the overhanging panel.

Australian made was a big incentive for me. Also, have had this stove in 2 earlier versions. The 2 earlier versions had an issue with not being able to adjust hotplate temperature for anything other than high. I noticed from a recent review this problem is still happening. Perhaps Westinghouse should look into this. So far no problems.
It is a good basic standard upright stove, however, the fact that this model no longer comes with a digital timer is very disappointing and a letdown by Westinghouse. Yes,!there is a similar stove with a digital clock and timer but has hot plates only, which I do not like, therefore I can only rate it as a 3 star product.
A very good oven. I have just changed over from gas to electric after 35 years of cooking with gas. This oven is fan forced and cooks quicker at a lower temperature, has a great griller. Am very happy.
Absolutely love this Westinghouse oven. The multifunction cooking options are great. I can set the timer so oven turns off automatically which I love. Cooks perfectly and baking comes out nice and evenly cooked. Very happy with purchase
I had the conventional version of this oven oven, then replaced it with this fan forced oven. I was looking at the high end Bosch induction ovens, but decided to stay with Westinghouse, but a fan forced oven. My reasoning was that the coils are very responsive, much like using gas, the oven heats up very fast and cooks well. The separate grill compartment is very convenient, where other ovens have a grill in the stove compartment which is a total pain. The oven is VERY easy to use and clean and looks nice. What you pay for this home built oven is a bargain. I could Not justify paying the price for a high end induction oven, where I'll need to learn how to use an oven again. In the end, how's the food going to taste ? Can you cook with simple tools? There's an old ... MoreI had the conventional version of this oven oven, then replaced it with this fan forced oven. Fair value for $ BUT poor action in heat control. We bought this unit hoping it was as good as identical model we'd used for years (also had issues with replacing previous unit's heat controller modules). NEW one's hobs, oven and broiler all will melt butter at 70% power, cook at 90% and incinerate at 92%; little flexibility. Booh also that broiler door doesn't have a half-open position.
my original stove was a westinghouse 4 coil stove , it served us well, then I decided to get a new one as it was starting to rust and went for a ceramic top style, I regret ever buying one of these as they are such high maintenance to look after and would never buy another one. A few weeks ago I decided to get a new stove and went and purchased the 4 coil style again. I am so happy again with this new stove. It cooks well and so much easier to maintain!
