Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary Bookshelf Speakers Walnut
Gilbert Briggs, who founded Wharfedale in 1932, turned the company into one of the most famous loudspeaker brands in the world by concentrating on quality and value for money. The Wharfedale Denton exemplified these two edicts, balancing fine craftsmanship, natural sound quality and affordability inside a compact loudspeaker that was bought in its millions right across the globe. The original Denton went on to further other models based on its highly popular formula, the Denton 3 being the last of the line until now! Denton 85th Anniversary is a two-way speaker in the classic bookshelf tradition, beautifully hand veneered in Mahogany by Wharfedale cabinet makers with an inset front baffle and traditional Tungsten cloth grille. Underneath the traditional exterior, however, the Denton 85th Anniversary is bang up to date and utilises a mixture of traditional and advanced technology. The bass unit features Wharfedales innovative woven Kevlar cone mounted on a rigid die cast chassis, this combination delivering a rich, detailed bass/midrange output with superb dynamic performance. High frequencies are handled by a woven textile soft dome treble unit with high flux ferrite magnet, engineered for smooth, detailed HF extension. These drive units are combined by a highly researched crossover that is near inaudible to the listener, resulting in a coherent, seamless musical output that is both thrilling and natural in its rendition of any source material. The original Denton was well known for its warm, rich and natural sounding character and the 85th Anniversary Edition retains that character but imbues it with an open, detailed performance that will entice you to explore your whole music collection.

I bought these speakers on Anils recommendation about a month ago. Using this with the Marantz Pm7000N amplifier. The speaker has very good detail retrieval and after about 50 hours the sound opens up. This speaker has a huge sound stage and an open airy presentation. The bass from this speaker keeps getting better and I don't think I will need a subwoofer. Very smooth sounding and for the first time I heard music continuously for 5-6 hours. This speaker is a gem.

Sometimes I wonder why I bought so many speakers over the years in my Audiophile journey spending a lot of money! I always try to justify that by saying I can't be satisfied with a single sound signature as I seek variety. With this Denton 85s I'm astonished that they are so convincing with nearly every genre of music while being warm & non fatiguing. Imaging & soundstage are good too. The lower octaves have a pleasant feel while the mids & especially the voice come with a mild heft of nostalgic romance! The highs are sufficiently present without brightness for longer hours of listening. The build and appearance are beautiful in line with their intended vintage charm. They are easy to drive with all amplifiers from 50 watts. the sound quality of the Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary Bookshelf Speakers is exceptional. The speakers produce a clear and balanced sound that belies its size and is perfect for all genres of music. The retro design is also a plus, as it adds a touch of class to the room they are placed in. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking for an exceptional sounding, high-quality, stylish addition to their home audio system.

The Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary is one of the finest loudspeakers I have heard. I was blown away by how rich it sounded and how much detail it picked up when playing music. I’ve used it for everything from rock to jazz to orchestral recordings, and each genre has sounded amazing. If you’re looking for a loudspeaker with a classic look and modern audio quality, I highly recommend checking this out!
This speaker reproduces music which is deeply involving. Its rich mid-range and prodigious bass make me want to hear more music on and on. I use this with the Audiolab 6000A, which makes a perfect pairing. This speaker although a bookshelf sounds more like a floor-standing speaker.
The retro design of these speakers in Red Mahogany is absolutely stunning and adds to the overall aesthetic of my living room. The sound quality of these speakers is incredible, with a warm detailed sound, a huge soundstage and kick-ass bass that makes listening to music an absolute pleasure. This speaker needs a good high-current amplifier. I heard the demo with the Audiolab 7000A amplifier which I purchased with this speaker.
Had these for over two months and have not been disappointed. Pair them up with good electronics and you will find them a joy to listen to and they will only improve over time. These speakers have depth, good soundstage, seductive midrange, and good bass. They are solidly built, the veneers make their appearance elegant. They may not satisfy the heavy bass loving listener. They can play loud, but best at moderate levels. Perfect for modest sized rooms. I listen to mostly 70’s music, with some classical. Cd’s, LP’s, and streaming all good. Vocals are particularly enchanting. Worth the investment.
Beautiful Sound and appearance. Smaller living room and these really do well ! Very well packaged by Mfr.Prompt shipping by MD- thx ! Replaced original pair Bose 301 bookshelf spkrs.
After years of trying to put together a satisfying "cheap 'n' cheerful" audio station, I've finally succeeded thanks to these great little speakers. They are compact in our little living room, but nice fit and finish, capable of big sound AND delicacy, slightly warm, very musical. Plenty of bass available, but easily adjusted via placement. In short, a lovable sound for informal listening. Just to give a better idea of what's driving them: Oppo BDP-205, Bluesound Node 2i, and a pair of custom biwire speaker cables I had left over from an earlier setup. Good on all sorts of music (I like classical and jazz, but my son was in here playing EDM and other techno things, loudly, with equally impressive results). Fun. Glad I got them.
I could not be happier with my Dentons 85th Anniversary! They are awesome speakers and go great in my room. They are paired with a PS Audio Sprout 100 amp and I have to warn people who could be interested in this pair, they do not provide the best they can for a while, it takes some burn down time to relax and loose the stiffness they come with at the beginning. The first weeks the pair sounded harsh, grainy, sibilant and even piercing at moderately loud volume. Not sure when things got perfect, but after a month the situation had improved a lot and after six months the sound is heavenly. Very revealing but not harsh, amazing image and soundstage, with depth and body, depending on the song you can have sound all around you. Well recorded DSD files make you feel you ... MoreI could not be happier with my Dentons 85th Anniversary! They are awesome speakers and go great in my room. Well recorded DSD files make you feel you have the band in the room and speakers do not exist! Now, here's the best part... the Denton's are regularly priced at basically 1K, but I got a great deal from Music Direct with an open box set that was impecable, absolutely indistinguishable from a brand new closed box, if I remember correctly I got them for $750 which is a killer deal! Do the math, $800 for the Sprout, plus $750 for the Dentons, that is well under 2K for one of the most amazing MidFi systems you can get for a small to mid sized room, I'm pretty sure this pair would not be ashamed at all next to a system twice the price, that good it is!
