The Whitco Security Screen door lock handle (Tasman MK2 in black) was a perfect replacement for our old lock (it must be at least 20 years old)! It was easy to fit and the instructions were straightforward enough to be followed by a senior lady. We greatly appreciate the fact that we can still use our original keys. The quality of the new lock is wonderful! Well done Whitco - there should be more repair options like this on the market. Thoroughly recommended!

Make sure that you have the key for the lock, which you will need to get the old one apart. We finished up with a locksmith because we had no keys. Then needed a new lock if we wanted to lock the door. With low level handyman skills it should be no problem doing a change over. The Witco unit is working well.

This latch was replacing an 18 year old screen door handle that was totally worn out. We wanted to keep the original barrel and key, so this replacement was ideal. The old latch was easy to remove, and the new unit fitted easily with the original barrel. You just need to be careful to hold the latch in place (vertically) while screwing the handle together. The new unit looks and feels more robust and improves the appearance of the door. A cheap and easy way to fix a screen door.

I bought this to replace an existing ~25 year old Tasman Mk2 which has worn well and I suspect has withstood at least one unauthorised entry attempt and still functions. As such it is a fairly old design. The supplied Whitco dual 5-pin tumbler "Euro-profile" lock cylinder is fair quality and as supplied had reasonably aggressive bitting (not a bad thing). This cylinder can easily be substiuted to some other better (and of course more expensive) Euro-profile cylinder as long as you get one with the "lazy cam" operation. As an old design the 5-pin cylinder does stick out from the handle assembly by about 9mm which can make the cylinder vulnerable to some force attacks. Handy when the existing lock goes belly up. Simple to fit though you need to be careful. It is possible to install the locking cylinder with its tongue the wrong way around. If this happens you may find the door closes and locks and you can't get the thing open. Make sure all the features operate correctly before allowing the door to close. Tip.. don't install the cylinder retaining screw until you have successfully tested door closing and opening and locking and unlocking. Also you may find the square shank of the thumb lock on your existing handle set may not fit into the hole in the new lock. Some careful filing of the shank on the handle set will fix this.. Money well spent..

My screen door had a Whitco lock (12 years old), and I didn’t want to risk poor installation issues by using a different brand. So for $6 extra I purchased this Whitco Tasman II and it was a perfect like-for-like fit! Very happy and relieved! Lock Barrel from the old Whitco works in this new one.2 Minor criticisms: The snib is much more lightweight and flimsy than the old model, will it last the next 10-15 years??? Also the door handle is firmer, needs more effort to use in this new model Whitco Tasman II. maybe it’s because they are made in China to different tolerances?Overall it’s all good - peace of mind from a like-for-like install, functions as expected, 10 year mechanical warranty.
My 25 year old security door had a very tired saggy Whitco handle that would not latch shut anymore. At any point I was afraid my dog would work out that he only had to push the door with his nose and he's free to do whatever he wanted. I purchased this product from these guys because they had a good price and great reviews on other products. The shipping was super quick which was good for my dogs sake. Changeover was super easy and the product fix exactly into the existing slots and screw holes. It's super weird using a brand new door handle and it works great.
I ordered this lock as a special order. The locking mechanism was the same as my worn 1998 version and was a simple exchange fit in the front door screen. However, the handles are better quality and design then the original lock. I was that impressed that I ordered another lock for the back screen door.
Works like a charm and a good quality product and is highly recommended. My installation was not a straight replacement as the unit being replaced was an older unbranded unit. Minor adjustments to the door cut out and door strike but now fits like a glove. Looking forward to to many years of trouble free use.
