Works like a charm.I mix this up with a water mixable dryer and my water mixable Cobra oils.The result? It's much easier to mix, apply, and blend the water-mixable pigments, then when I was using an excellent, but otherwise, conventional oil medium. Also it is much easier to clean up brushes at the end of a painting session.

i must give the winsor newton mediums a "5" because i don't know any different being new to oil painting. I love the water mixables and having used regular oils first along with odorless turp and then odorless thinner, the toxic qualities were pretty severe and l nearly asphyxiated myself during clean up. I ordered both the water mixable regular thinner and the water mixable linseed oil and use them ½ and ½, dipping my brush in the mixture or adding a drop or two from a dropper to the water-mixable oil paint. Seems the canvas dries to touch much faster than when I was using the regular oils. I'm not certain how the artesian water mixable linseed oil compares to regular linseed oil. I am a recent convert to water miscible oils. It did not occur to me that the mediums would also have a slightly different composition. Once I switched to water miscible mediums and linseed oil everything began to work properly. It is so nice not to have a headache when I paint! There is a lack of information regarding amounts/percentages/ratios- that sort of thing- however the water miscibles are forgiving so play around until you find the amounts that work best for you. I like this product as it flows well, dries fast and leaves a protective, glossy film. To what degree it can protect from UV, time will tell. The product alone deserves five stars.I would have liked to have bought the 'matt' version, which, I am told, my local Hobbycraft sells. I have not come across it on any of my visits, hence four starts.Perhaps, more luck next time..., unless I order it specifically.
Bought the Linsead oil to help my water Miscible oils flow without fogging, running or just loosing the color richness you get when thinning with water. I can still use dish soap and water for clean up, without the solvent smells. Great Stuff, I hope the whole line of miscible products gets a little more mainstream to help with availability. If you are currently using Acrylics and would like to try oils, this is a good way to go.
Use safflower oil because I paint with a high chroma pale color palette.Although mixing this oil with artisan paints out of the tube makes the stiff paint creamy, the paint dries at least 2-3 values darker. Very frustrating!

I have been, and remain, satisfied with the quality of the linseed oil.However, about 3 years ago, the cap was redesigned, and since that time, 1/3 of my students have received bottles with caps whose inner mechanism breaks easily with normal use. The only way to then get the cap off (to actually access the oil) is to peel off (break) the outer cap. This renders the sharp (broken) inner works twistable, albeit, painfully, as the sharp broken innards are now exposed. What can I say about W&N Water Mixable Stand Oil? The oil itself had a beautiful golden color like fine spirits. The labeling on the bottle is quite accurate as the bottle is able to stand upright on its own for a good period of time. I conducted this test for a short time but felt satisfied to go with the results. I did not attempt to mix it with water, and I would not recommend mixing with peanut butter or anything dairy.
Windsor & Newton are fantastic! I use their Artisan oil paints, which are water soluble, but have the same buttery and rich quality of traditional oil, but without the need for turpentine. When I discovered this Fast drying meduim, I am completely impressed! The richness of the colors are so wonderful and now I don't have to wait weeks or months for certain colors to dry. I have used the fast drying medium on 2 paintings now...with incredible results. I was worried the titanium white would yellow, as is possible with too much linseed oil or any other medium. I have learned from that mistake...my ratio of pigment to medium was wrong. Basically, don't overdo it. I have plans to do more plein air painting, and this is definitely going to help me with the speed of ... MoreWindsor & Newton are fantastic! I purchased this product for glazing. I find that it works very well. I am new to using glazing medium so I am learning the right ratio paint to product. I do find it is very easy to work with. I also must commend them on this product for it's dry time. I have found that by the next day the work that I have done is dry and I can start on the next layer. It is glossy which if I would have known ahead of time being new to this I would have chosen a matte finish instead.The liquid is amber in color is fairly odorless and comes in a nice size container. I would suggest keeping a small container of water mixed with Pink Soap to wash and some water to rinse out your brushes during your work time when switching brushes.
