Years ago I bought the Paradigm 2 which, even though my daughter said that it looked like I had Ronald McDonald shoes on, felt great! My toes had lots of room to spread out. I went to Fleet Feet for another pair of Paradigm sneakers even though some reviewers wrote about a smaller toe box. I ended up having to order the shoes and, once they arrived, I found that the toe box was, indeed, tighter all around. If you look closely at the web page description of the shoe it shows an image of this toe box being the "standard" toe box, not the "original" toe box. Some might wear them longer than I do but for me, the wear on the outsides adds to the roll the orthotics provide-problem. I do not recommend these for road runners. You will find yourself replacing three times faster than other shoes. And the tongue!! It's been a common complaint in reviews but I will say it again....it is too narrow. Even if the edge of the tongue didn't run up against my bunion repair incision, they would still be too narrow. So why a 4 out of 5? Hoping the Paradigm 6 is better than the 4.5

I wore them out of the store with no concerns, but the heel wore out quickly. You quit offering the standard width some time ago. Why do you advertise a wide toe box and at the same time narrow the footbed? My left shoe has a hole where the big toe is as well as my little toe. It would seem when a person is only walking that they would last longer than if you were running in them. I hope when I get the the Paradigm 6's they work. I ordered the black but am not very happy about the orange and the logo on it. Some of us just want durable shoes that don't cost a fortune and are just plain as we wear them most of the time.

If it 'ain't' broken , DON'T FIX IT!!
26 April 2023

After only 4 months of purchasing the Paradigm 6 in the white with light yellow trim, they have lost support in the forefoot section. The fabric stretched and is loose so that my feet now slide toward the outer side of the shoes when walking. They are now too wide and they give a very misshapen appearance.I still own the Paradigm 4.5 and they are perfect! The cushion and support are still going strong. I was looking for a new color when purchasing the 6's. I was not overly thrilled with the color but that was the only color in my size in this model at my local store. I cannot wear the shoes now because of lack of support and the cushion in toe area which I need for arthritis in toes just doesn't stand up to the 4.5's. Lost confidence and trust in Altra. My Unicorn Shoe
25 September 2022

I waited a while to write this review because I wanted to be sure, but I think I've found my Unicorn Shoe! I have a hard to fit foot - narrow heel, comparatively wide forefoot, and low/flat arches. This shoe fits perfectly and feels amazing! The pictures make the Paradigm look like a heavy, max cushion shoe, but it is definitely not. For comparison sake, it is more shoe than the Provision, but feels lighter and less stiff than the Brooks Adrenaline. I HATED the Provision - too wide in the heel, rubbed my little toe, and there was a pressure point in the instep that killed me. I almost didn't try the Paradigm but I am so glad I did! I ran a 10K trail race this weekend (I know, they're not trail shoes) and had no foot or toe pain that I was getting in my Adrenalines. ... MoreI waited a while to write this review because I wanted to be sure, but I think I've found my Unicorn Shoe! I'm just waiting for these to go on sale so I can stock pile them. Please, never change them!Note: I have a narrow foot and this fits perfectly, so I could see someone with a normal to wide foot feeling like they are too narrow.

Some good features but prefer the Torin for my foot shape.
2 June 2023

My Altra experience only involves Torin 6, so I wanted to try another style. I work in healthcare and stand for several hours at a time. I have been wearing them to work as well as power walking. Firstly, there is a great amount of arch support for folks with high arches. These have a notable lift to them, but are not obnoxious like some brands. The lift seems to be camouflaged. The fit in the heel is comfortable and mine doesn't slip. These shoes seem to hug the foot more than the Torin 6. The tongue seems to stay in place and I like that it is not more of a slip-on type so there can be more room added with the laces if wearing thicker socks. Compared to 6, the toe area is slightly narrower and maybe a little shorter. There seems to be less room in this shoe and would maybe step it up a half size. The bottom of my feet seem to burn at the end of the day, but it may just be because it is a little small. I will note that there is a significant squeak when walking and sometimes do not wear them to work because of it but It may just be this pair. I will probably return to the Torin, but this is a good shoe to alternate.

The best sneakers I have ever worn!
11 October 2022

What can I say?! I absolutely love these sneakers! I bought these shoes for the purpose of jogging/exercise. Normally, when I buy a new pair of sneakers I swap out the insoles for name brand ones. However, when I put these sneakers on for sizing (I bought them online) I was immediately surprised at how well they fit. My heels and ankles felt supported and secure , my heels did not slip out of the shoe. In addition, I have high arches and these sneakers were able to take care of that too! The extra toe room is also a game changer...my toes have room to wriggle and breathe. The extra cushioning on the soles feels like I am running on a rubber track instead of hard pavement. I recently ran a 5k race and honestly feel wearing these sneakers made a big difference in how well I did (I placed 3rd for my age group!). I am not a fast runner but I do enjoy it very much and now even more not having to worry about my aching feet all the time...Thank you Altra!

These shoes saved my feet! 100% recommend

When I finished Chemotherapy last fall it left me with neuropathy in my feet. I needed to find a good supportive shoe that would lessen the numbness in my feet and also cushion my tender feet. I tried Hokas but just found them too clunky. A salesperson at my local outdoor store suggested I try these after trying other brands that just did not fit well. I had to go up a half size but they fit my wide feet great and are the only reason I can resume my normal activities. Several nurses and physical therapy people also noticed my Ultras right away when I started wearing them. People who spend a lot of time on their feet and who run kept asking me how I liked them and what model they were. I liked them more and more the longer I wore them and am so happy I bought them. Without these shoes I don't know if I could even go shopping or go for a walk with the nerve damage chemotherapy caused. I would like to buy another pair to have on hand because I actually need these shoes! They run small so plan to go up a half to a whole size. I used to wear a 9.5 but my Ultra Paradigms are 10.5. I was wearing a size 10 in Nike before buying these Ultras. I have the navy color and am very happy with them.

Too narrow, incredibly uncomfortable
5 June 2023

Caveat: I do have a wide foot, but have found the Lone Peak style incredibly comfortable in regular width.I recently developed the need to switch to a more supportive shoe, and as a huge fan of Altra in general and the Lone Peak style in particular, I opted to try the Paradigm. Big mistake. I knew the last for this shoe was narrower than the one for Lone Peak, but I didn't expect it to be this much narrower. And it's still not the narrowest last!! I made it ten minutes before the pain across the ball of my foot became too much. This shoe is the most uncomfortable thing I've put on my foot since I quit wearing standard last shoes. The whole point of Altras is the foot shape. The move towards narrower lasts is making them pointless.
