Not Australian and pretty tasteless!!!! Very generous sample at a normal retail price of $22 for 500g Product of Vietnam Very limited flavour in these and nowhere near the quality of our famous Australian prawns You really need to add heaps of flavour back into them with a sauce or a marinade etcThe texture of these is pale in comparison with ours that are locally sourced. If you wanted to buy a frozen Australian package of cleaned and ready to go jumbo prawns at Woolworths for only $2 a packet more and 3 times as good!!!Or if you wanted to buy cooked and frozen banana prawns from Woolworths they are $20 a packet, but you need to still clean these onesWe definitely need to support the best quality seafood, readily available, that’s locally sourced and keep jobs here ... MoreNot Australian and pretty tasteless!!!! I don’t know of a single decent restaurant that I have worked in in over 45 years in the industry that would even give this room in their freezer, let alone serve them to paying customers. I am not saying they are unsafe or disgusting even, but as you are paying a premium price for these, I would not ever even consider purchasing. Thankyou for taking the time to read my review and for the great support and comments, that you all so willingly contribute. Plump but bland. I was super excited to receive these prawns in my bunch box. After reading the reviews and finding that they weren’t Australian prawns I was a little less excited, however very happy to try them. Unlike a lot of the reviews I didn’t have a problem finding them in my local woollies. There were plenty available in the freezer. Getting over the Easter period and finding someone to share them with was a little tricky but tonight was the night when I was able to have dinner with my sister!! I had decided to make a seafood pasta with them. I decided to thaw them in the refrigerator the night before. I had decided to make a seafood pasta with them. I decided to thaw them in the refrigerator the night before. After nearly 24 hours they were still pretty frozen so I left them out on the bench for about 20 minutes where they thawed. I think perhaps the thawing instructions need a bit of adjustment. Looking at the packet I wanted to see the large size of these prawns because they say jumbo and they certainly are jumbo!! But as I was looking through the window of the pack- I couldn’t help but be drawn to the parsley leaf that was stuck to the inside of the packet. I did wonder how exactly this parsley leaf managed to get inside the packet?? So in this instance I wash them under running water and layered them on a paper towel to absorb moisture. When they were clean and drained you can see the sheer size of these prawns. They are definitely jumbo. Which I was super excited about. Having read the reviews I definitely wanted to ensure these were heated as I had read that they were a bit tasteless. I sautéd them briefly in some garlic and parsley infused oil before adding to my marinara pasta sauce. I was pleased to serve these in a nice fresh marinara sauce. And the size of these prawns made the dish look lovely as well. I did keep one prawn aside to try it on its own but after a bite I mixed it with the rest of my plate of marinara. Im happy to report that these are extremely large plump prawns. They are a little on the dry side even after infusing in the sauce. They are certainly filling. But as far as the taste goes – on their own they are lacking in any sort of flavour that a nice freshly cooked prawn has. I’m glad I added them to a hot dish. I would rather buy Australian prawns and have been very spoilt to grow up at a seaside port regularly buy them straight off the trawler. Whilst these are a product of Indonesia they are farmed from a pond which in my mind wasn’t as bad. They are nicely peeled and deveined. And the edges of the prawn that have been deveined haven’t got that white freezer burn effect seen in a lot of frozen prawnsI was speaking with my sister over dinner and we thought that these prawns would be nicely suited to a curry because of their sheer size and meatiness. An entree dish would also be ideal. On their own, definitely not. Quite a large price tag associated with these ready to eat prawns but for convenience is one people would likely pay. I’m not so sure that I would buy these again because I always buy raw king prawns but was very grateful for the opportunity to try them. One to try though if you are a cooked prawn fan.

Yum. I made creamy garlic prawns and served on a bed of Jasmine rice. It tasted amazing and had my partner looking for more. Serving size suggested four serves but as a main meal with the prawns as the star of the dish, it did two serves for us. I thought I had over cooked them while stirring them through the hot sauce but going by other reviews, I think they might just have a tough texture. I didn't have a problem with shells but my partner had a few where the shell hadn't been cleaned off properly. The bag does have a caution note on it saying "Great care has been taken to remove all shell and shell fragments, however some may still remain. I decided to check in my local store anyway and thankfully they were there. I love the look of the packet, it's bright, fun and easy to spot on the shelf. I also love that it has a recipe on the back, I didn't use it this time but it looks tasty so I might in the future. It also has instructions on how to thaw them safely. $22 for 500g is currently out of my budget for something that made one meal. I find all prawns expensive though so they're usually a Christmas treat. They are a product of Indonesia and the bag is not recyclable which is a shame. They have a four star health rating so that's a plus, although with the amount of cream I used, it probably went to a -4 If I'm able to in the future, I would purchase these.

A Very Big Convenience. Thank you Bunch for this very generous sample just before the pandemic hit. The packet of these Jumbo Cooked and Peeled Prawns is a pleasant bright sea blue and pink with a window to see the contents. There is a Mango salad recipe on the packet with a pretty picture of the serving suggestion on the front. The Jumbo Prawns are all pre-cooked, peeled (with tails still attached) cleaned with vein taken out. I love that part, but would be nice if the tails were taken off too. There were 22 Giant prawns in the packet. 11 from the first grab out and 11 from the second. Two of them broken in half and very small. I thawed mine out in the fridge with what I needed for a few hours. I used this sample over two meals, only taking out what I needed for ... MoreA Very Big Convenience. I thawed mine out in the fridge with what I needed for a few hours. I used this sample over two meals, only taking out what I needed for that meal and then popping the remainder straight back in the freezer. DO NOT defrost then refreeze!!The thaw in 15 minutes can be a bit misleading, with the nice pink label on the front of the packet, as who is going to waste 15 minutes of running water defrosting food in our parched country? Not me! They can be purchased for $22 a packet 500gm which equates to $44 kg. I made Fried rice on the 1st occasion and got the husband to try one cold before I heated them through. He didn’t like it and said it was very chewy and tasteless. Once I cooked them they shrunk by about one quarter, due to the water factor I expect from being frozen and defrosted. They were much better heated up only for a couple of minutes in the frying pan, but still very chewy and quite bland. The second meal was just recently so about 3 and half months after I first tried them. There was a bit more ice in the packet although I go out as much air as I could on the 1st reseal. But to be expected. The second meal I defrosted in the fridge, but they were still a bit icy, so I rinsed them under cold water for 2 min then lay them on paper towel for a couple more minutes then popped them in the frying pan. As they were chewy the first time around I decided just to pop one on the already cooked pizza so they wouldn't get over sizzled in the Webber. The pup had a try too and he loved the one I gave him. So it was a paws up from Reuben There is a 4 star health rating, with no artificial colours and flavours, aswell as high in protein. Made in Vietnam, Responsibly sourced? But where exactly and how is not stated. To be honest, I wouldn’t buy these again as I would much prefer to buy Australian prawns, even if they are more expensive, even frozen ones and I have to clean them fully myself.

Plump Prawns. This was a very generous sample to have received and appreciated the opportunity to try these Prawns out. After 4 attempts I finally was able to get my hands on a pack, proving they must be a popular item. I absolutely loved the convenience factor of these Jumbo sized Prawns as they had already been Cooked, Shelled and Deveined. After taking some out of the pack and following the recommended thawing instructions in the refrigerator I found they had remained quite plump. I ate one on its own but to be honest I was a little disappointed as it was tasteless and rubbery in texture. After then quickly making up a Seafood dipping Sauce they certainly were more enjoyable to eat. I also tried them in a Mango, Avocado and Prawn Salad and then another time added them into a Creamy Garlic Pasta dish. To enhance the flavour of these Prawns they definitely need to be served with some sort of sauce or stronger tasting ingredients. The price is $22 for the 500gm, a little expensive but only to be expected for the convenience. I’ve never actually bought frozen packaged Prawns before but I’d certainly be interested in trying a brand that offers Australian prawns to do a taste comparison. I can see myself occasionally purchasing a pack as they could be a good convenient product to have in. Thanks Woolworths for this sample

Minimal water seepage when defrosting. Sadly no prawn sweetness, biting into the flesh to find it bland rather than flavoursome. These need to be added to a dish or dipped in a sauce to reveal a flavour. Cooked for convenience, easily separated so that you can remove only the amount you wish to use these would be perfect with salad, in a curry, combined into a sauce for beef and reef, stir fry, served as a finger food with dipping sauces ... ❌ These prawns are a product of Indonesia or Vietnam depending on where the cooking and packaging have been done. The bag does state ‘responsibly sourced’ however the farming methods and attention to safe hygiene practices seen first hand doesn’t convince me. I also note that the price of these is marginally less than to buy fresh Australian prawns, we are paying for the catch, clean and cooked convenience. We love our seafood so we tried them plain, the blandness then led me to rethink just adding a dipping sauce so I added them to my Pad Thai, leaving out my usual chicken so that we could capture the flavour when heated. They lifted a great deal when mixed with other herbs and sauces in the dish but not enough for me to purchase this product, even as a back up quick meal. With gratitude to Bunch for a super sample, I’ll continue to clean, devein and cook my fresh Australian seafood.

Jumbo in size, small on flavour. Not quite the jumbo jet of prawns but they are very large, pre-cooked, with heads removed and tails intact. Found it easily at the bottom of a dedicated seafood freezer. I used my sample on 2 dishes (below) to test when eaten fresh or heated. I used it (fresh) on my Prawn Rice Paper Roll with hoisin/peanut dipping sauce. I used it to flavour a Stir fried Noodle/Veg dish. The prawns had shrunk so it wasn’t a good idea to cook it twice. Unfortunately, I could not taste the prawns on either dishes. Convenience came at a price. The prawns were fresh but they were devoid of the "real" taste and smell of prawns. There are too many variables that may have contributed: a) being farmed (fed on certain diets, use of probiotics and other pond conditions); b) cooking process of cleaning, boiling and washing; c) long periods in storage. Whatever the reasons, the end product resulted in a bland, flavourless prawns with tough and chewy texture. Thank you Bunch for a very generous sample but unfortunately, I prefer to buy wild caught prawns, preferably Australian and preferably uncooked with shells intact. I use nearly every part of a prawn (head, shell, even the cooking water) to make stocks to flavour my dishes so flavour is integral for my reasons of buying this crustacea. I don’t mind farmed prawns but I would prefer Australian due to known sustainable and regulated farming practices.

Does Size Count? Does size count?Well with these prawns..... yes and why? because they are called Jumbo Prawns on the PackThey are already cooked, peeled and deveined with tails intact...... very convenientThis product will be found in the freezer section and you need to keep them frozen until needed. Once thawed, do not refreeze them. I thawed mine out in a glass bowl covered with glad wrap in the fridge and you will need to think ahead of time to do this as they can take 24-48 hours, mine were ready to use within 24 hours. So I cooked the garlic sauce first and once that was ready I added the Jumbo Prawns and heated through then tossed through the pasta..... done...... before adding the Jumbo Prawns to the sauce I took the tails off. Now for the taste test -The whole dish together was delicious, the Jumbo Prawns were very meaty and only a slight hint of a Prawn taste. The Jumbo Prawns were also a bit chewy, but on a whole we enjoyed them in this dish. I put 2 a side to try by themselves to see how they were as you would use them in a salad etc. I was disappointed and so glad I put them in a hot dish. They were very watery and still chewy and quite bland in taste the look of them didn't stack up with the taste. This 500g packet costs $22 ($44 per kilo) although they are on special atm for $20. 50. They are not cheap but they have been cooked, peeled and deveined.... so your paying extra for the convenience. My 500g packet had 21 Jumbo Prawns in it. These Jumbo Prawns were a product of Indonesia and I still had 22 months to go before the best before date. Would I purchase these again? Probably not due to the taste and being very chewy and I do prefer to buy our Aussie prawns I love prawns and enjoyed trying these ones out, we enjoyed our meal with them and that is why I am sitting on the fence with 3

Perfect Prawns. Imagine my delight opening my email and seeing this wonderful sample of prawns on Ash Wednesday morning. As my chat reveals, I was struggling to decide what to serve for dinner on this meat free day, so decision made! Thanks Bunch Gods Very easy to locate in the frozen seafood section of Woolies, next to the Deli, these packets of prawns were sealed in a relatively hard plastic bag to ensure no leaking should the product defrost slightly. In addition, the ‘see through’ sections on the packaging allowed the product to be clearly seen - and what a beautiful selection of HUGE plump prawns poking out looking at me One criticism is that the packaging needed to be cut open, and wasn’t resealable. I would prefer a tear open top, with a resealable strip similar to the frozen berry packets. As expected (not to be pessimistic or anything) this product is NOT Australian - a MASSIVE con and one that would initially deter me from purchasing these prawns. A product of Indonesia, which isn’t ideal. But at $22 for a 500g bag, I wasn’t surprised as locally sourced seafood is so much more expensive. So convenient and versatile, simply defrost and serve or use in whatever dish you like. I decided to use this product in a honey soy stir fry (on request from my husband) but I left out a ‘sauce free taster’ for review purposes. All I can say is DELICIOUS! Firm yet tender, mild in flavour and not at all ‘fishy’ these LARGE meaty, cooked, peeled AND deveined prawns are literally perfect, I cannot fault this product on taste nor texture. As these were cooked prawns I wasn’t sure how they would go being used in a stir fry, but I simply tossed them into my stir fried vegetables to heat them through and it took all of 2 minutes to have a piping hot prawn meal. I didn’t want to like this product. I didn’t want to be tempted by non-Australian seafood. I didn’t want to fall victim to a convenient, pre-cooked product. But I have to admit, I will absolutely be buying these prawns again. Pure prawn perfection

Personally, would not recommend. We tried our sample finally last night, I ate a little bit of a prawn and then didnt eat another bite. Thankfully Id also prepared a second main so shekid and I just ate that. Hubby and Mum ate their prawns but neither liked them. I made a Japanese Garlic Prawn sauce and I chopped the prawns into 1/3's and added them to the sauce to warm through. I DID NOT COOK the prawns, they are already cooked when you purchase them. I make that statement because I know that over cooking prawns make them tough and nasty, again, I did not cook them. The prawns were as tough as could be and had a very strong 'fishy' taste to them that I found horrible, even covered in garlic sauce the fishy taste was very very strong. I did not like them at all and would never purchase or recommend them personally. With regards to the product, they are imported from Vietnam and I am pretty sure would be farmed prawns, not fresh caught which may be why they have a strong fishy taste? The packaging is strong and secure and can be recycled with other soft plastics, I rinsed my bag out to make sure it didnt smell later. There were 20 very large prawns in the packet I received, they were very meaty. They still have the shell on the tail and first segment adjacent to the tail. Pulling the tail section easily removed the shell in one whole piece. Thank you Bunch for the generous opportunity to sample these Jumbo prawns.
