Woolworths Parmesan Cheese Block 200g

So pleased I got this !!! I couldn’t wait till I picked up this sample. We love a good Parmesan on salads, Caesar, rocket and pine nut salad. We use a lot of Parmesan on pasta. It is a good product due to being in a block is more versatile, you can grate it, use a vegetable peeler to get a shaving to go onto a salad. The aroma is lovely but not overly sharp. The shelf life is excellent next year. I made a traditional Italian Carbonara, sauce my version was to use both truffle butter & black truffle oil, chopped bacon, fresh garlic, chilli flakes and button mushrooms. I ensured the 2 eggs were at room temperature and whisk in the Parmesan and some pasta water. I used filled pasta which needed to be eaten. Served with cracked pepper a sprinkle of Parmesan. Fell flat. I had high hopes that this would be another great value swap to save some money on our usual Mil Lel parmesan block, unfortunately we don't rate this one. First thing I noted was the strong off putting parmesan smell, it took me right back to my childhood with the Kraft grated parmesan that comes from the pantry section . Our usual parmesan smells fresh. The strong smell led me to believe that the flavour might at least be bold, but it is notably milder than what we are used to. The biggest disappointment is the texture, it is smoother and more rubbery than I think a parmesan should be and lacking the little salt crystals that we love. Pecorino and Parmesan are both aged, salty hard cheeses, but the main difference is that Pecorino is made with sheep's milk and Parmesan is made with cow's milk. this parmesan cheese is $32. 50 a kg …. a mid range price per kg compared with other brands you can buy. the pecorino we have been buying has been $17. 99 a kg, ( much cheaper than parmesan) although some other brands of pecorino are very much more expensive than even the parmesan cheese . )It was great to get this sample and have parmesan cheese again!the packaging is not reusable friendly so you would have to wrap it ... MoreGreat flavour. Strong Aroma. I used this in one of my favourite Recipe Tin Eats dishes, Fried cabbage with Noodles and Bacon. Parmesan is used in the dish and also sprinkled on top. This parmesan definitely has a stronger smell than the brand name version I usually buy. Mr L is selective about strong smelling cheese and did not enjoy this at all. On day two I had to use my usual Parmesan as the topping instead. This review is an average rating as I did enjoy this cheese but have to admit the smell was strong when grated. It is not something I would buy again as he don’t generally have his and hers cheeses so I will stick with our usual brand that we both enjoy and buy when it is on special. The price is good value for block parmesan though.

Whether if be on a bolognaise, on top of homemade pizza, or mixed through a broccoli bake (surprisingly, a hit with the kids!), parmesan is so versatile. I usually just buy the grated parmesan, because I'm paranoid about grating knuckles when I use the grater. So I made hubby grate this one for me. We've so far just used it on top of bolognaise, and as usual, it was delicious. Parmesan just adds that kick of flavour with a bit of saltiness. Since making that meal, I have discovered that I can grate this using my food processor and the grating attachment, so I did the rest of the block. A nice tangy, crumbly, tasty cheese. This is such a great a versatile product and very tasty too. Upon opening the packet I got the wonderful smell of parmesan cheese which is a good start. I used a potato peeler to shave off strips and this worked well as I got shavings and some crumbly bits as well (which is what I would expect. It has a lovely tanginess and sharpness which I love and it tasted great on pasta and in a sandwich as well as just on a cracker or on its own. I usually have a few favourites that I buy when on special so this one will be added to that list as I quite enjoyed it. Convenient size for those who don’t use Parmesan cheese often. I found this product to be more expensive ($32. 50/kg) than WW brand shaved/shredded ones ($24. 60/kg) but cheaper than major brands block type. Versatile and fresh as I can grate or shave whatever I want. And unlike prepackaged cheese, added no preservatives. Great topping for pasta and salad as well as adding some flavour to pasta and rice dish — made Gluten free chicken pasta bake (picture below). Delicious cheese. I was so excited to get some lovely parmesan cheese. I usually buy packs of already grated cheese, but I was keen to try this and grate it up myself. It is made in Australia which is so fabulousI grated this up to go with my home made creamy bacon and broccoli fettucine. It added a delicious taste and texture to our meal. The cheese could be grated in different ways too which is great, and depending on which side of the grater you use. The narrow sides would produce a more finely grated cheese, the main sides would be normal grating. You could even use a potato peeler to make shavings, this is great for dishes like a salad.
