The Cake that didn’t ‘Bake’ me smile. I have some mixed emotions on this sample. We were very excited to receive it. It was a talking point in our house as to when I was going to collect it . So, my wife always cuts the cakes in our house, quite simply, because I’m a hot mess when it comes to cutting straight, not dumping it on the floor, or simply taking 7/8 of the cake for myself . She cut 4 small pieces off for us as she always does (however this time they were even smaller and I was gobsmacked! I didn’t know you could cut cake that small ). She told me she had her reasons and grinned. I shrugged, took a bite and lord was I glad she can cut a cake into small slices! . Now I am a massive sweet tooth - but wowsers!!!! Whilst it had a nice flavour, the icing is incredibly sweet, and having a middle layer of icing that is thicker than the top as well, it’s very sweet. We also found it to be very dry. Whether it was just the one we received I’m not sure but it wasn’t a cake we rush back to pay $8. 50 for if they are all that dry. So, my son and I finished the cake over 4 nights so it fed 4 of us 1 night and 2 of us for 4. It is small, but packs a punch! My wife & daughter did not have any more as it was way too sweet for them. We appreciate the opportunity to try this sample Bunch and would consider purchasing more of the small cakes to try now given the amount of serves, however we would be concerned regarding sweetness & dryness so we would be sure to try check reviews before purchasing.

Dry and crumbly. After finally getting hold of the cake after a few visits to the store, I rushed home for my family to enjoy. I was particularly happy to try the product because the packaging states it was suitable for Vegans like my daughter. However, most of us adults were disappointed. Even my young grandson couldn't decide as to whether he likes it or not, which is unusual for him. I don't know how long it has been frozen then thawed because the cake was dry and therefore crumbly as I cut into it. We're not too keen on the sugary icing either. I was hoping it would be a nice change to WW mudcake, but I guess we will have to wait for a better cake for variety. I still have half of it in the freezer and have been offering it to everyone during dessert time, but ... MoreDry and crumbly. We always like to try anything new.

A family favourite! I love Biscoff, and was so happy to receive this sample (I held off on purchasing this one when released, as it seems quite expensive for the size). My first impressions was that this cake is very dense, sweet and tastes... like Biscoff. Honestly, I found it quite delicious, though a little artificial aftertaste. On the other hand, my girls wanted to try this (they claimed they do not like Biscoff), and they loved it so much (hence the 5/5 stars). I guess it is a little more on the expensive size and hard to find in store as I had to go to another Woolworths as this was sold out at my local store. But I found this yummy, my girls loved it and they can never agree on cakes. I would be happy to purchase this on occasion as a treat. Thanks for a ... MoreA family favourite! Nightmare to get a hold of! This cake was an absolute nightmare to get!!! For a whole MONTH it was unavailable in my local store and surrounds (I checked every single day), so the day before the offer expired I drove to another town who just got stock back just to get it. Then the day after my hunch offer expired my local store magically had it on the shelf! I usually avoid cakes that have egg so it was refreshing to see that this cake didn't contain egg. The cake was absolutely delicious! I thought the cake would be bland but I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful unique flavour, as I had never tried biscoff before. The cake was also nice and moist. I enjoyed it with whipped cream on the side. My family enjoyed the cake so much that I purchased biscoff ... MoreNightmare to get a hold of! Nice cake. This one was a very hard one to locate. No store anywhere near me had it in stock for weeks. Ended up finding it in a new shop in the hills that had only just opened. Happened that we were going that direction, so dropped in and picked it up. The cake is quite firm, but has a nice flavour. I think it could be improved by making it a lighter texture cake. The icing also was quite firm. It was a frozen product thawed for your convenience, so unsure if thats what makes it so firm. We kept it in the fridge but also tried having it brought to room temperature to see if the cake wasn’t as firm, but it didn’t make any difference. I might purchase if it was on special, but I wouldn’t go searching in heaps of stores just to buy it.
Delish, very sweet treat. The miniBuncher and I had already tried this cake on yellow-sticker-special a few times prior to being allocated this sample for review, so we feel very well qualified for this one!THE GOOD:* Suitable for both vegans and vegetarians. * It's a visually appealing cake, and the miniBuncher loves the sponge and the cookie crumb. I am also a fan. THE INDIFFERENT:* The pack indicates that the tray and lid are recyclable, which is good, but makes no mention of the plastic wrap around the cake. Presumably that goes in the trash, but possibly it can go in soft plastics. It would be good if it indicated which is true. * It's quite a small cake, but the pack says it has NINE servings! That may be achievable as it is a very sweet cake -- but I have no ... MoreDelish, very sweet treat. That may be achievable as it is a very sweet cake -- but I have no idea how to cut a cake into nine pieces! * $8. 50 is more than I would normally spend for a smaller-sized cake, however we occasionally find it with yellow stickers at a lower price. THE BAD:* Half a health star! I know, it's cake, not exactly a health food, but seriously -- half a star?!* The miniBuncher found the vanilla buttercream excessively sweet -- and coming from her, that's really saying something!THE VERDICT: This one is already on our radar and will remain there, but for two main reasons (cost, and health rating) it is definitely on the less frequent end of the "eat sometimes" scale.
Pretty Little Cake. I picked this cake up this morning. It had a "Best Before" date of 21 October 2024. Today is the 17th. I liked how it presented. The little Biscoff biscuit on top was a nice decoration. The generous amount of Biscoff crumbles on the icing were lovely and very delicious. The vanilla cake tasted a bit like caramel mud cake to me. It was quite dense and didn't feel as fresh as I was expecting it to be. The vegan buttercream was ok, it seemed sort of firm. There was certainly enough icing in the middle layer of the cake and a little less on top of the cake. I wouldn't have wanted any more icing as it was pretty sweet and rich. I shared some of this cake with my twin sister who loves anything sweet. She said the cake was "heaven". I found the cake not ... MorePretty Little Cake. I picked this cake up this morning. I only gave it 3 stars as I would prefer a Woolies Caramel Mud cake over this cake. I do like that it is a small cake, sometimes you just need something small for a morning tea with friends.
Nice surprise but terrible cake. I was presented with this cake by a friend at a surprise morning tea catchup with a group of ex work colleagues. Loved the thought however this cake was terrible. Tasted like a mix of very stale cake and burnt cooking oil, certainly nothing sponge like about it. As it was a gift I was obliged to try a piece (thankfully, very small ) as other cakes and food were available. I hid the rest under my serviette after a small bite). Cannot see or taste what the fuss is about, frozen and thawed for customer convenience with a very long list of ingredients. A lot of sugar, complex mix of oils and other ingredients. What could go so wrong!Definitely not something I will be rushing out to buy. Thankfully, the tasty carrot cake in the same range ... MoreNice surprise but terrible cake. Overly sweet icing. Found this lovely looking cake with a yellow reduced sticker. I love biscoff even though I have basically cut out sugar, I took this home to try and give hubby a treat. Quite dense cake, but still really nice in taste and texture. But that icing in the centre. So overly sweet that you cannot eat it. Even with only a very thin slice of cake, it's too much. We cut the centre icing from the cake and threw it away. The icing on the top, covered in delicious biscoff biscuit crumbs, is just enough, with both layers of cake. If this was not as sickly, I would say $8 (full price, I paid $4) is not too bad. Due to the incredibly sweet icing in the centre, I would not purchase again. In saying that, others will love it. Small but sweet! I picked this cake up whilst shopping last night. It has a yellow sticker attached so reduced from$8. 50 to $2. 13 - what a score as it was still in date for a couple more days. - Made in Australia from at least 71% Australian ingredients. - This product contains no artificial colours or flavours. - The product has an understandable 0. 5 health star rating (it is cake after all ). - The packaging is recyclable. It's a nice sponge with a thick layer of cream/icing in between. The sponge was dense but moist. The icing/cream was sweet but yummy. The Lotus biscoff was a really nice addition. Was certainly happy with my budget score. I would definitely buy again if marked down for a budget family treat.
