If you live anywhere near a busy road you will get false positives all night long from headlights that are not even in the video frame. No, it doesn't matter how you angle the camera, unless you angle it so you can't see anything useful either. All the false positives make the events basically useless unless you want to dig through a hundred events from each night. I got SD cards and the light sockets. The SD cards are fine, but the motion detection for the light socket is useless. I can walk around in the detection zone and it won't even turn on, but if a car drives by on the highway OUTSIDE of the video frame, then it kicks on. Like a hundred times a night. Even if I block out the edges of the frame with detection zones, it still triggers for nothing. Adjusting the sensitivity doesn't help unless you want to miss legitimate event triggers (people or cars in your driveway, etc.)I'm not saying other brands are better. I don't know. They may all be trash. But the Wyze business model is lacking. Selling cheap cameras and devices, then trying to funnel people into subscriptions. I'd rather pay more for a camera with no subscription that simply does what it should do, but I'm not even sure one exists because everyone's so greedy anymore. Just make a good product and sell it. I don't care if it costs more if I'm not getting nickle and dimed on a subscription that really doesn't offer anything of value. Oh, also, when the trial period runs out you have to jump through hoops to get the Cam Plus Lite (which is simply what Wyze used to offer for free) and to pay nothing for it (but they'll try to guilt you into paying something for it). And when my Cam Plus trial ran out the events were suddenly 2-3 seconds slower than whatever motion triggered it. So I was getting events that showed absolutely nothing. I shouldn't have to go into playback for every single event, and quite frankly cannot take the time to do so. BOTTOM LINE: Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for a better camera. Also, if you want a product that actually does what it's supposed to do without a practically mandatory subscription, look at Notion sensors. No, they aren't cameras. But for home security they are pretty good and don't try to rob you with a subscription. Wyze should take a cue from Notion.

I have been able to modify Wyze garage door openers to provide bidirectional comms/video and ability to open gates for clients at a fraction of the cost of their OEMs without running AC power or ethernet.. I adapted a system for gate surveilance 1/4 mile from a residence nestled in a forested lot which kept the gate and functions cost prohibitive initially due to the extremely rural area. Now with long range wifi providing data connection and a small battery box made from a 12v 7ah LiFePo cell at just over a pound and a 15.00 solar panel with 5 volt output and solar controller/recharger all sealed and buttoned up at the gate controller which is a 24v system built wth a 2 -12v battery bank (also LiFePo) with the included solar controller/charger and panels included with the opener providing all the enerygy needs the gate can be opened and closed via the Wyze app anywhere it has internet connectivity via the activate button on the app screen and the Wyze controller wired into any of the several "dry contactor" terminals on the gate controller. With they Wyze Cam v3 with color night vision and garage door opener device along with the app my elderly customers has not felt more secure in years after having many strangers drive past the gate and onto his barn and steal items including a tractor. Limited to 2.4 Ghz, except a couple of devices that are now dual band, there are plenty of 2.4 Ghz long range APs still on the market at very affordable pricing to provide wifi to remote placements of Wyze products and ways to power them without hardwiring power and data in rural settings. Using similar infrastructure i have been able to provide surveilance using Wyze products to cover up to a 250 acre farm without running wire or cable and at the same time providing wifi for the entire property should a unit need to be relocated or another added. All for the cost of a "branded" backhaul without power solutions. I have used "indoor" units going back to previous versions and in taking proper weatherproofing precautions i have yet to loose a Wyzecam to weather. Definitely slap a SD card in each camera for local storage of recordings and don't put all your eggs in the cloud basket just in case. Video pulled from SD cards by the local sheriffs office have help solved thefts, damages, etc in locations no one ever expected a surveilance camera to be loacated and at the installation heights theres terrific visual coverage and line of sight comms to access points. I did have one SD card snatched from a camera after an attempted theft by someone who knew the camera was there but he didnt realize he was alrrady on 2 other cameras and there was a great closeup screenshot sent via the app and the recording on the cloud option as well. Ive had experience with almost all brands out now and many are pure knockoffs of Wyzecam equipment, but forbthe money Wyze consistently provides the best quality and price. I read reviews from customers who complain about the quality of the box they are so petty but for someone with a half a technical mindset they will love the versatility in my opinion.

One issue is that not all of the cameras and all of the household mobile units are associated in the app, so event rules have to be programmed by each individual users for their phones, if using the Cam Plus license. As an example, geofence detection for exiting can trigger if one person leaves and another stays home. The trigger should be only when all phones leave. If WYZE considers that these cameras are for home security for multiple people in a household, and so the data architecture should be based on many-to-many logic, not multiple one-to-many (person to camera) logic trees.

Good value for the price

Cameras work great. A definite improvement over the V2, especially for night vision. Getting the 2 pack did save a little money but not a significant amount. Wyze is getting pretty pushy about the Cam Plus service and the camera functionality is very limited without it (I already knew this). You will only get basic motion and sound detection without paying a monthly fee which results in notification overload. Looks like they've taken a page out of Nest's playbook, well played Wyze. That said, with the money you save on these cameras vs Nest you can pay for many years of Cam Plus. These cameras aren't very stylish and look like cameras which I think is a good thing if you're using for home security. Articulation of these camera is good but could be better, when pointing to the side they sometimes look odd with the square base (makes them look crooked). This purchase was to replace all my V2's. Since the V3's are waterproof I can use them outdoors without a case. The app works well with these and notifications seem pretty immediate. All in all a great deal for these cameras even though you really need Cam Plus to make them useful.

Great Potential but could use some improvements

I purchased this cam (after looking extensively at reviews) so that I could keep an eye on my pets when I'm not home. Here is what I have to say.Overall the device does a lot for being so affordable. I purchased an SD card so that I can review the playback as it records throughout the day. I also have motion detection on so I can look at the event viewer to get an idea when movement triggers the cam. Then It links me to the timeline of the playback recording where the motion began. It does not register events up to 5 minutes after registering an event (motion) but this is okay as I can scrub through 5 minutes forward to see if I was missing anything. It does not register events up to 5 minutes after registering an event (motion) but this is okay as I can scrub through 5 minutes forward to see if I was missing anything. The (30 sec forward) button comes in handy here. For my pet observation purposes the subscription service does not make sense to buy. Therefore, for a one time purchase of around 50$ including the SD card, I am rather impressed at such an affordable camera and will consider buying more in the future. However, there are a couple of things that could be improved here. This device is so affordable. I want to give it 5 stars so bad and recommend it to everyone! However there is wasted potential here which I feel is easy to fix. Tbh it seems rather dumb to me that these issues are even present. For one the motion detection isn't perfect and many reviews reflect that. I have it on the highest sensetivity and sometimes see motion that isnt registering. Meanwhile a light turning on will register the motion sensor.More importantly to me, the video playback does not update as you scrub through the footage. Instead u must scrub to the place you want to see, and then let go of the timeline and it updates. This is clunky and not like the standard we see today in video software. I would expect that as I scrub through the footage, the footage should update in the viewport in real time. This aspect of the software reads as extremely dated to me. I personally don't care if it reduces the quality or takes up more data in order to make this happen, there should be an option.Lastly, there is only an app for the phone. I am often at a computer and I don't want to waste my phone battery or have my phone propped up next to my monitor at all times when I want to watch something passively. This is really annoying to me. Why is there no desktop app like so many other software applications? This seems lazy to me. In the meantime I will use an android phone emulator for my pc...Anyway, overall I am impressed with this camera. I wish some simple improvements were made because then it would be perfect as an affordable camera in my opinion and I would recommend everyone has one. Unfortunately for now, I would only recommend if you do not care about some of the issues it has.

Great Product for the Great Value

Camera works just as I thought it would. The frame and casing of the V1 through the V3 are fully plastic and seem quite easy to break. I would like to see a "rugged" option to purchase that would be metal casing and of course waterproof like the V3 is already I believe. And some kind of hardware encryption for the SD card or a way for all my local cams to save on my LAN to a formatted partition of a hard drive on my desktop. Or something similar. I've had two cams total in my WYZE history end up stolen and of course they take the SD card not even knowing its in the cam or maybe they do. But they easily just got all 16 GB of my continuous recording. Which should not be that easily compromised guys. I believe thats the main point of the site is to view the live feeds. But they quickly time out. I do love the pop out view feature for the live feeds. Except if i use an extension on my browser to keep the tab alive and refreshed so the feeds stay alive it of course closes the pop out windows.

Great camera for monitoring inside and outside
21 September 2022

Nifty little camera great for monitoring inside and outside. I have one monitoring my front door for packages and another one in my room window to monitor my car. While I don't live in a dangerous neighborhood, it's still nice and provides great connectivity. Setup was easy, just had a problem once with both cams which was solved by a restart. I think the firmware just needed to update which was no biggie. Both of them have 128 gb cards and with saving only as events happen vs continuous (my place isn't as happening). The app is easy to use and grouping together cameras is pretty convenient too. I'm only taking a star off as the AI is a bit too eager- I've set detection zones, I've lowered the sensitivity, but the camera in my room still thinks the moving leaves ... MoreNifty little camera great for monitoring inside and outside. Both of them have 128 gb cards and with saving only as events happen vs continuous (my place isn't as happening). The app is easy to use and grouping together cameras is pretty convenient too. I'm only taking a star off as the AI is a bit too eager- I've set detection zones, I've lowered the sensitivity, but the camera in my room still thinks the moving leaves (especially when it's sunny) is a vehicle. Bro, a vehicle floating 6 ft off the ground? SMH. Other than that, I like the whole system and am considering getting another one. For comparison, I have an older Google Nest camera and that's like looking through a 1990's webcam.

Great hardware crappy software

4 stars for camera itself and 1 star for the app. For the price, the camera has great picture quality and night vision. Only thing keeping it from a 5 is the mounting tab is flimsy and a screw tends to chew into it. Also the pivot is difficult tighten down. But again, good value for the price. The software / app is garbage if you’re not willing to pay the monthly fee per camera. Even with the use of an SD card, Wyze makes the playback feature intentionally difficult to use. When you scroll through footage, it take a few seconds to load. There’s also no continuous fast forward / rewind so it’s impossible to sort through footage. The event feature would be great except again you have to pay to record back to back events. My Positives and Negative thoughts after 9 months

Received 3 Wyze V3 cameras in July of 2021 as a gift. No technology you buy is by any means perfect and these are no exception, HOWEVER for the price these are GREAT little cameras and the night vision is very nice. I have wanted something like these for a long time but all the other companies were too expensive for their equipment and then the monthly fee and that was not possible for me for what I wanted them for. These suit my purposes just fine of just being able to see who (or what) is around all hours of the day and night. I purchased separately the Wyze 32 gig SD cards and have one installed and set on continuous record on each camera so when the 12 seconds notification is up I can hit the playback button if I want and see what happened before or after and ... MoreReceived 3 Wyze V3 cameras in July of 2021 as a gift. I have wanted something like these for a long time but all the other companies were too expensive for their equipment and then the monthly fee and that was not possible for me for what I wanted them for. These suit my purposes just fine of just being able to see who (or what) is around all hours of the day and night. I purchased separately the Wyze 32 gig SD cards and have one installed and set on continuous record on each camera so when the 12 seconds notification is up I can hit the playback button if I want and see what happened before or after and you have the option to record that to your phone if needed to save it for later. No need to take out the SD card from the camera as when the card is full it just starts over on its own re-writing on the oldest data and that is fine with me. I would recommend getting the SD cards in the V3 cameras and set them to continuous record. I live where its cold, sometimes below zero, and the snow blows, these cameras are outside and under an open porch roof or overhang so somewhat protected and they worked well through their first winter. These do not run on a battery, you will need to plug them in somehow, I have ground fault outlets on my open air porches and so far haven't had a problem. These cameras also have a two way speaker and "siren", not perfect but do "work" and I have turned the microphone on while watching LIVE and told the raccoons to "scat" when they were on my back patio, cheap entertainment...LOL. The siren just made the one raccoon more curious, come closer and look up at the camera, maybe it just sounded like a wounded animal to the raccoon. I would like to get a few more of these V3 cameras for the areas I can't see and to put one to view the bird feeders. You can also watch what is happening LIVE and that could be fun for the bird feeder. You could also share for example that camera on the bird feeder with your housebound friend or relative that lives elsewhere and the LIVE feature is nice for that. The easiest they could do that (in my opinion) is with a smart phone and the wyze app, I am not very techy to figure out anything else. Now the downside. Overall easy to set up, but it took me a few times to get it done. At this time I would not rely on these for a business security cameras or high crime areas where you depend highly on these cameras for security. They are great little cameras with a good picture for the price, but if you need to zoom in to try and read a license plate, or see a face more clearly that is not within just a few feet of the camera to help in a criminal case, you will be disappointed. I will also add I have nothing to compare these with other brands, but this is my observation with these. I have been "fumbling" around with different settings in each camera, which is done through the Wyze app. Trying different angles of the cameras to try and find what works best for each one. The "detection zone" to monitor movement is not perfect when you set areas in each camera to "not to detect" motion in an area is not very good and headlights and their reflections will set off a "motion" for your camera to record even if you think you have that headlight area blocked out, headlights reflect a lot and probably will just have to live with it. So if you live in a high traffic area, or a corner lot with lots of turning cars and headlights, good luck and realize that is probably how it is going to be. They also will detect motion when tree branches, or shadows of the branches move, or the snow when it comes down or blows will set it off too, lightening storm or whatever moves or changes in lighting will set it off to record. The people detection is a hit or miss in my experience and you get people detection with what they call Cam Plus Lite and you currently can get that for free or pay whatever price you want. You will need the Cam Plus Lite to see your 12 second videos, otherwise you won't get video in your notifications and with Lite there is what they call a "5 minute cooldown", it won't record any motion on that camera for another 5 minutes, (unless you have installed an SD card and have that set to continuous record). You can upgrade to Cam Plus for Wyze's set price and that comes with a few more perks and does not have the "5 minute cooldown" like the Lite version, but that is not something I need at this time. In my notifications it sometimes will say that a person is a "motion" and not a "person", or one of the neighborhood feral cats sometimes is detected as a "person" and not a "motion". This to me is more of a "fun little toy" and not something I have to rely on for protecting say a business from any crime going on and have to rely on for a criminal case. But if I do have any criminal or other issues at my home, hopefully I will have something good enough to help with an investigation. Also you pretty much have to "play around" with the different settings to see what they do, no real "instructions" on how to use those settings or "tips" on what each one is or suggestions on how to set them that I found. Can probably find things online if you look. So many people complain on a currently $30 camera with basically no monthly fee unless you choose to pay some in "Lite". They are not perfect, no piece of technology is, they all can have issues, but for the price I feel it is a decent value, well made and I just try to ignore some things as the camera does serve my purposes as mentioned above.

Unreliable
28 July 2022

I have had this camera for about 10 months and I paid for the extra longer recording time. I have had people come up to my door ring the bell yet when I look at the recording, it seldom catches them. There have been times when I have had groups of people come to my house and it will capture one person coming to the door but it won’t capture everybody. Then when they leave some of the people are captured and others are not. All these people are walking along the same exact path. When it’s a windy day it is constantly playing because it picks up on the tree branches moving in my front yard yet it doesn’t catch all the people that walk up my sidewalk. It should capture me coming and leaving out of my driveway every time and that seldom happens. I have moved the camera around in different positions and it just doesn’t capture all movement. If the camera can pick up one person walking up my sidewalk or pick up me leaving one time than it stands to reason the camera should capture all of these types of movements and not just in isolation. It is VERY unreliable.
