So full disclosure, I had really high expectations for this lock because I owned the original Wyze Lock. For the purposes of this review, that's what I am comparing this to. I feel when compared the original, there are essentially 3 things you're giving up simply for the fingerprint scanner.First off, I love this new lock. I like that I can have multiple users' fingerprints added as we have family that come over often and giving them all keys kind of asks for them to be lost. They had codes before but now it's even easier. While we're on the topic of the fingerprint reader, its FAST. Faster than most phones which is nice for when you're out for a walk. It's gone from fiddling around for a key, to entering a code (original wyze lock), to just tapping my finger.Overall, this lock is fantastic but there are 2 things missing, one of which almost feels like a deal breaker. The original Wyze lock knew when it was open, so if we left the door open, we could set it up to make a racket if it's open longer than 30 minutes. Great for keeping everyone mindful of heating/cooling. This lock, despite being more expensive, does NOT know when it's open. This causes trouble with the auto lock and honestly makes me wonder why it's omitted because my assumption would be that they had a compass in the original and I know it would have added to the price, but I mean, I think that's a pretty important feature. The other feature missing is more a function of the design and I get why they did this so all I'll say is that it does suck not having notifications from this thing. Like when someone unlocks the door or what have you. It's less of a big deal since we have the doorbell (also from wyze) but just thought I'd point it out.The last thing is what I consider to be a bit of a deal breaker and the reason it's 3 stars and not 4. I utilize the "auto lock" feature because I'm forgetful and the people in my house are forgetful. We've had the original lock for about a year, and it ALWAYS locks and will ALWAYS alert us if there is a problem with it auto locking. On this lock I have auto lock on from 8PM until 8AM, it's nice that you can schedule it but let me ask. What's the point of being able to schedule it, if it doesn't lock? It only seems to work if you open the door and close it between those times. If you go for a walk at 6 and don't lock the door when you get back, at 8 when the auto lock is supposed to be on it WILL NOT LOCK. This is a security product and if you set the expectation that your door will lock itself and will always be locked, then you need to make sure that you do it. It's a matter of safety more so than your other products.I will finish this off by saying, I love Wyze (even though they wont get me in their beta despite owning almost their entire product lineup) but this one was kind of a bummer to me.

I really wanted to have a door that could be opened without a key. The ones I kept finding used your phone to auto unlock or lock. I really did not like that idea and just wanted something that could use a code. This is a very basic but I love it! It was easy to attach to my door and setup in the app. I was able to share the lock with my partner through the app. We each have our own four digit pin along with finger print ID.I currently have this on our back patio door as its a covered area and I figured it would be a good spot to have this lock. When the door cannot lock (door not fully shut), the lock will try a few times to complete the lock series and when it cannot it will beep a few times. The downside, when the lock cannot lock it only beeps a few times but I really wish it would notify me via my phone. Second, I wish you could schedule times for when the door would auto lock. During the day we come and go out the patio door and it would be nice to have it just stay unlocked all day, then at 10PM it would go back to the auto lock feature. This is honestly the only bad thing I really have to say about it, but if I put this on a garage door it really wouldn't be an issue. You can also schedule four digit codes for guest to use to get into the house. You do not need to be connected to the lock and you can be anywhere you have internet. This is great for when a friend needs to come over and check on your house or you need to let someone in and you are not around.I'm debating on getting a second one for our garage door since we really like this one a lot. I would recommend this lock if you just need something basic or you do not want one that auto unlocks like the other wyze lock.

The lock itself is great! It's a shame the dimensions of the internal tail that turns the deadbolt latch is too wide to use a standard latch, nor does the tail swivel like a conventional deadbolt lock, but is fixed in its orientation to the thumb turn.If the tail had these standard attributes, a person could install the lock using an existing deadbolt latch installation, and not have to retrofit with the Wyze deadbolt latch. In addition, the Wyze deadbolt latch is not the modern/common hammer-in style, but requires the door edge to me mortised, so the Wyze latch can be installed flush with the door edge. This requires small wood chisels and some skill to make it look good. I'll attach photos of a hammer-in (round) and mortise (rectangle faceplate) deadbolt latched for clarification, if possible.

For the price its hard to complain. I bought 4 when they went on sale. They work as advertised. I have one on my front door, one on my rental unit, and one on a shared door for the basement (and one backup just incase). Its nice that I don't need multiple keys for all the different doors. My code works on all three doors, and the tenants code only gives access to their door and the shared door. The fingerprint reader sometimes takes a couple tries to unlock, and occasionally wont work at all if there is dust on the lock, dirt on my finger, or if my finger is not quite lined up right. In these circumstances the keypad is easy to use and has never failed on me. In these circumstances the keypad is easy to use and has never failed on me. I tried to set up the auto-lock feature so that It would automatically lock later at night but remain unlocked during the day. It sort of works, but if it is already unlocked it wont automatically lock when you get to the set time for auto-lock to be active. Because of this I just keep it in auto-lock all the time. Lastly, I wish when you give someone access to the lock via the app that they could set up their own fingerprints on the lock, not just passcodes. I have one on a rental unit and I had to physically be there with my phone to set up my tenants fingerprints on the lock. Some of these issues could be fixed with software/firmware updates so hopefully they roll out some updates at some point. Overall I am happy with the performance. The real test will be the cold weather performance here in New England.
So far so good. Works as advertised. Looks good, affordable price. The fingerprint sensor is great.Installation was a little difficult for me because the pre-existing deadbolt hole in my door was too small. It only needed room for the short bevel on the back of the outside part, though, so I was able to mojo it with a hacksaw rather than redrilling. There is no mechanical key, so if the electric motor goes out, you’re boned if you can’t get in through another door. So this may not be suitable for a condo or any other single-entry application. The mechanism is a little noisy, which I actually like because it’s an audible confirmation that it locked. One excellent feature: Even if you’re away from home, you can generate a one-time unlock code with the app, similar to how Google Authenticator works, so you can still let people in remotely if needed. One criticism about the app: If you set up a temporary code for someone, you have to set a date & time period. There’s no simple “active/inactive” setting for a user account. All in all, I’m very happy with it.
Upon attempting initial installation, lock wouldn't turn, noticed small metal plate on floor (must have detached/fell to ground upon opening box/removing product), took awhile to figure out what the piece was and where it was supposed to be. While attempting to install the lock (now with the small metal piece back in place), this piece detached again and dropped inside my hollow metal fire door... down to the bottom. Had to remove front door off hinges, flip the heavy door upside down, and shake/tilt it to retrieve this metal piece. Over an hour later, the door was back in place and the lock was all installed. Auto lock wasn't working, but manual lock from inside worked fine and I loved it. Auto lock wasn't working, but manual lock from inside worked fine and I loved it. Very nice coming home and getting inside quick with use of keypad/fingerprint... Until two days ago. I came home around 8pm on Sunday and my Wyze Lock Bolt wouldn't unlock. Heard grinding as lock was activated... Same noise heard when trying to either lock or unlock it. Either way, sounded as if the deadbolt was just not moving and partially inserted and thereby preventing the door from opening. Thought it may need new batteries (it wouldn't unlock after numerous attempts via app, code, and use of fingerprint... Even tried to calibrate it and look for guidance online), so I drove to the store and bought a portable charge bank and USB cord to provide a charge and unlock it, but it was clear the batteries were fully intact/charged. An hour went by and my kittens needed to be fed, so I tried to shake the door to better align the lock in door (figured that may be the issue here)... No luck... Tried to raise door into a better position by placing a shovel underneath and standing on it... Still no luck. Ultimately had to pry the keypad from the outside with the back of a hammer, which caused the keypad (and entire lock) to rotate, which finally allowed me to enter my home with a good shoulder shove into the door. Doorframe is slightly damaged now, but all is good! What a nightmare. Caused alert in the neighborhood, which is a condo complex of approx 200 units. Ultimately made for a funny story to tell others (although my partner and I did not find it funny during the hour long process lol). Very upset that this product didn't work out for me. I still support Wyze and have bought 2 more products since my purchase of their lock bolt. I have 6 of their products total, 3 licenses for cameras, bought my father a Wyze product for father's day, and recently convinced my sister to purchase a Wyze Cam Pan V2 for monitoring her pets... Still wouldn't use any other security-focused products from another company. Again, I love Wyze, but would never recommend the Wyze Lock Bolt after this experience of mine. $70 down the hole, which is tough, but still loving y'all Wyze!
Very impressed with the design thinking behind this product. I feel more comfortable from a security perspective with the Wyze Lock Bolt only accessible via Bluetooth instead of WiFi. Simple to install, design looks good. Love the functionality. I can set it to auto-lock after a certain time period (5 minutes) which ensure the door is always locked at bedtime, no need to check it. When in Bluetooth range, the app allows for personalized setup for fingerprint and PIN code access by person, and then I can receive alerts and track who is coming in when. The fingerprint sensor is great, no need to carry keys or a phone for gaining access to the house when going for a walk. The only issue I have noted so far is very minor, and that is if the door is left open past the auto-lock timeout, the bolt will extend when the door is open, so something I need to be conscious of if that is the case to prevent trying to close the door with the bolt extended and possibly damaging door trim. Not sure how the lock could tell if the door is open or not, so this is not a big concern and of course this feature can be turned off if really an issue.Does not integrate with WiFi or voice assistants, but for this particular use case related to security, this is actually a pro and not a con.All in all, very happy with the price for what this lock delivers and so far has been very reliable.Once again, great work Wyze!
I have been looking for ways to automate my entry door. Researched for a while, remained hesitant for a longer period, then decided to try little buddy. I've worked in home automation industry since Fred and Barney used Dino to open the garage door, so I've had many "connected" locks on the house, Schlage, Yale, etc, but the Wyze lock really hits it out of the park as to usability and quality. The fingerprint reader is easy to use and very handy when your hands are full, a little finicky for my wife's smaller fingers, but works great for me. I thought the lack of "network" connectivity would be an issue, but the ability to remotely generate a "token" entrance code really solves that concern. And since I have the Wyze doorbell cam, I already know that someone is at the door and I can see and talk with them, so the lock doesn't need to be permanently connected to the network since I can provide a synced remote 1 time ... MoreI've worked in home automation industry since Fred and Barney used Dino to open the garage door, so I've had many "connected" locks on the house, Schlage, Yale, etc, but the Wyze lock really hits it out of the park as to usability and quality. Love this lock! There are many smart lock options out there but I wouldn't want to go with anything other that Wyze. It's a affordable, easy to install, easy to use, and of course integrates in the app with my other Wyze products.Having a log of entries when locked and unlocked, see who's profile code was entered, along with the ability to set auto lock timers & control it from the app, I have full trust in this lock to keep my door secure (and no longer worry about getting locked out or losing a key)! The reason for 4 stars is the fingerprint scanner. It does work, but not as well or as quickly as my smart phone that I'm used to. It can be finicky in colder weather (haven't had hot weather yet) and doesn't always read on the first placement - I tend to stick to the keypad entry to avoid fingerprint issues.
