Okay, maybe not healthier but more filling.I digressAfter locking my feet into the hfs with the great lacing system that suctioned cupped my feet into the shoes. Out the door I went in a flash, into the cold 19 degree weather. I ran on pavement and gravel for 6.5 miles with zero issues. The minimal arch support combined with the 5mm tire inspired sole was exactly what I was looking for. My feet gripped whichever surface I was running on without issue, as I waved with glee to any cars passing by me.This is a great shoe for road/hard surface running. I was wearing out the lugs of my trail running shoes (from another company) and needed a little bit more support on harder surfaces. HFS perfectly supports what I needed. If you’re new to barefoot shoes or need just a little bit of support I would highly recommend them.

Only had a chance to use the HFS a few times since I got them. The website said to go a half size larger than you usually would which turned out to not be the case at least for me (half size too big). But the exchange process was easy enough and I got my normal 10.5 men's quickly which fit perfectly right out of the box. As far as fit and feel go, they feel like wearing socks with a sole on them, no exaggeration. And that's a really great thing. Soooo light and comfortable. I'm still working on relearning my running stride a little to adjust to minimalist shoes (these are my first pair) but I'm loving the shoes and the way they conform to your foot. Will probably consider getting another pair of some kind as just my wear around town sneaker shoes but I'm waiting for my current pair to wear out more first before I ditch them. Side note: the HFS are also nice just for walking in when I walk my dog so they work well for that too. You really do start to feel the ground beneath your feet and it creates a whole new experience of movement. Time will tell how durable they are but the price is more than comparable to other running shoes so even if they aren't MORE durable I figure it's still acceptable to me as long as they don't have significantly less time before they wear out. So far my first venture into minimalist footwear with my HFS is going very well.

But, my advice for a beginner is to run your normal distance but be prepared to walk if you feel any discomfort. Then, for about 6 weeks, I found I needed extra days off to fully recover from soreness.A few things that I discovered are: 1. I started with a mid foot strike. But, as my leg strength improved, I naturally transitioned to a forefoot strike. 2. Prior to a forefoot strike, I find it works best to flex your ankle and reach for the ground which prepares your arch and calf muscle to absorb the energy in preparation to recoil back once your heel lightly bounces off the ground. 3. Instead of thinking about using on my legs to propel me forward, I discovered that a barefoot running style allows gravity to do some of the work by pulling you forward. In part, your legs are just tying to keep you upright. 4. I finding the elimination of a spongy cushion from the bottom of the shoe along with a better running form is allowing me to run both farther and faster with less effort.

Seeing how the first pair I ordered a size and a half larger than I take from other manufacturers was way too small, I ordered this pair another size larger. However when I got them I found I could not open the box for fear this pair will not fit either. Kind of like that last present on Christmas morning; is it what you really wanted and asked for or were your loved ones thinking they are more clever than you. As long as you do not open it you will not be disappointed. The difference being that you do not have your father tapping his foot anguish to watch the NBA game on TV or later in life your betrothed wanting to clean up the mess of presents and get on with food. If you are an 81 yr old runner.......
17 July 2022

I feel it's important to provide some context when reviewing my thoughts and experiences about a purchased item. As an 81 year old runner, I think I likely represent a very small percentage of folks who have purchased these Xero HFS shoes. Because of my age and the extensive uses and abuses of my muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones, etc., "shock absorption" is, or at least, has been, an ongoing concern in my selection of running shoes. So, then....Why would I purchase a pair of shoes like Xero s that have no built in padding or foam, etc. what-so ever ? 2 Reasons : 1- Curiosity. 2 - Because I believe the principles behind the design and creation of these shoes are sound. They make sense. I only wish I had realized that depending on a lot of un-natural padding and other "protective/corrective" materials built into athletic shoes was, in the long run (no pun intended) much more detrimental to my feet, legs and over all body health than letting my unencumbered feet do what nature had perfectly designed them to do. These Xero XFS do just that and a little more. They protect my feet from sharp objects while at the same time allow my feet to "read" and adjust naturally to the surfaces I am walking or running on. They are extremely well made too. My only words of caution is, DO NOT try to run your normal longer runs the first few times you put these shoes on. Especially if you are and old timer like me. Seems like common sense I know , but ......

My HFSs just died!

That's right, my trusty HFSs finally gave out. After 17 months of near daily use, I finally burned through the forefoot on the sole of my right shoe, so they are now "retired." Not sure I got my full 5,000 miles out of them, so Stephen, if you want to shoot me a discount code for a new pair, I'm all for it! All kidding aside, I was really impressed with the both the performance and build quality of the shoes. I'm a heavier guy and am incredibly hard on my footwear, but the HFSs handled everything I threw at them. From Crossfit-style workouts to hikes, they were just great for me. I also want to throw in there I washed the shoes numerous times (never put them in the dryer though), and they just kept coming out looking like they were brand new. Again, I was thoroughly impressed and will be buying a new pair very soon. I have four pairs of Xeros, but hands down, the HFSs are/were my favorites. If you're on the fence, don't be. They're amazing!

The Perfect Footwear for Dance-Related Rhythm Games
1 May 2023

If you're a fan of dance-related rhythm games like Pump it Up or Dance Dance Revolution, you know how important it is to have the right footwear. This is why I highly recommend buying yourself a pair of Xero Shoes. I recently bought a pair of these shoes for Pump it Up, and I was blown away by how much they improved my skill level in the game. In fact, the first day I played in these shoes, I was able to jump from playing S18 to S20 charts, which is a huge accomplishment.Xero Shoes are incredibly lightweight and flexible, which makes them perfect for the fast, precise movements required in higher-level play. They're incredibly versatile and can handle all kinds of activities, but for me, they're absolutely essential for playing one of my favorite games.

Truly Life-Changing -- and an answer to prayer
3 March 2023

I have had the Xero HFS nearly a year now, and have held off from doing a review because I knew I couldn't do it justice to do a short one, and I was too lazy to take the time to do a long one. But it'd be an injustice to hold my peace any longer.2 years ago my feet started hurting after walking for awhile, something thay never really happened ro me before. Then i slowly started developing plantsr fascitis symptoms (never got clinically diagnosed, but pretty sure thats what it was). My feet were hurting so badly at times I literally had to clock out at work to rest my feet. Then i slowly started developing plantsr fascitis symptoms (never got clinically diagnosed, but pretty sure thats what it was). My feet were hurting so badly at times I literally had to clock out at work to rest my feet. I even tried buying the braces for plantsr fascitis to wear in bed at night, but it didnt really help much. After waking up in the morning, I would have to walk on the sides on my feet to avoid the excruciating pain. I was praying for healing in my feet, and it would come in a completely different way than I'd ever imagine. My wife had tried to convince me for a while to switch over to barefoot shoes, which I knew was just an absurd idea. Everyone knows that if your feet hurt, you need CUSHION, as we have been taught our entire lives. But then my wife bought a pair of used Z-Treks from someone only to realize that they were mens size, and not women's size. Even though they were a little smaller than my size, I thought I'd slip them on and WHAM, my whole paradigm had exploded. How can my feet be so comfortable when there's only 3 or 4 millimeters of material between my foot and the ground!? So I bought a pair of the Dawn Grey to wear as casual shoes because I thought they were the best looking minimalist shoe for casual wear that I could find. For running, I bought a pair from another brand that is famous for using cushion with their wide-toed zero-drop shoes, still clinging on to any bit of my old paradigm that I could. You know, walking in "barefoot" shoes is WAY different than RUNNING in barefoot shoes. Of *course* you need cushioned shoes for running, just think of all of the impact your feet are taking while all of your body weight thrusts them repeatedly onto the hard concrete road! But, my feet were still hurting after a run, just not quite as much. At some point, and I honestly don't know why, because I still thought I needed cushioned shoes for running, I decided to try a run in my HFS's.Man, did that decision seem like a mistake at first. My heels and knees were feeling the entire brunt of my 225lbs (at the time) and It was not good! Suddenly I realized how wrong my running form was; heal striking. Running in the HFS's forced me to run differently and after the adjustment and after finishing my first run in them, my feet had felt better than they had in maybe a year! I quickly took all the rest of the "must wear cushioned shoes" paradigm, threw it on the burn pile and set it aflame.Over the course of a month or two and after watching some videos on how you're SUPPOSED to run, my plantar fascitis was G-O-N-E. Not just helped, not just reduced, but completely GONE. The Xero HFS have truly been life changing for me, and an answer to prayer. As for an actual review of the shoe, I cannot believe how comfortable they are. I can tell a big difference in foot strength and my toe spread since eliminating all cushioned and narrow-toe boxed footwear. The shoes are so stinking lightweight and flexible, that I just knew that I'd be wearing holes in the mesh. Not so, my friends. After just under 200 miles ran in these, they are barely showing any signs of use; I'm amazed at their durability.I love how breathable they are too, which is great for those hot days. When running out in the cold I can just put on some thicker socks and that isn't a problem at all in the HFS with their wide toe box.I also love the huarache style adjustable straps that help secure a custom fit.Oh, my. It took me over 45 min to peck this out on my phone keyboard, and I still have to leave a review for my 360's!

I have held off on doing a review because I wanted to be thorough and have some proper miles in the HFS before doing so. I have run in minimalist, barefoot, and zero drop shoes for a few years and I eventually settled on the brand Altra before learning about Xero shoes. I felt like needed cushion and/or a rock plate for the very rocky trails in Phoenix and just used the same brand for my road shoes. I had also run in the Inov-8 trail roc 155 and merrel trail glove and vapor glove. Absolutely could not handle rocks on trails or even a stray pebble on the road much of the time. I was very skeptical of the Xeroshoes brand because of my previous experiences in barefoot shoes. The biggest issue I had with the Xero shoes HFS is a good bit of calf soreness after even a moderate run of 5 miles or so. Did not expect that since I've run so much in the past in zero drop and barefoot style shoes. However, that went away after the first few runs and now I can't see myself running or even walking in anything other than Xero shoes. A few weeks ago, in the midst of a major training block, I did 35 miles of road running over two days, plus a pretty significant amount of walking to see the sights in London, all in my HFS and my feet were feeling amazing! Love them so much I have 2 pairs now. each of them have over 100 miles of running alone and my black pair is my primary shoe for everyday wear around town. My feet have never felt better.

I bought the navy blue/teal colour and they look so much better in person than they do in the picture, even though the picture still looked great.I recommend transitioning to minimalist shoes beforehand, as these shoes are super close to the ground. I am an elementary school teacher, I wear these in the classroom, and good thing my feet were ready for the hard floor I stand on all day because you sure do feel ever last bit of it in these shoes! I love it though. The breathability is incredible throughout the shoe. I always have had issues with my feet sweating and stinking, I tried all sorts of things, which led me to barefooting originally, and these shoes my feet can wear without stinking or sweating too much, which really means a lot to me!They look ... MoreI bought the navy blue/teal colour and they look so much better in person than they do in the picture, even though the picture still looked great.I recommend transitioning to minimalist shoes beforehand, as these shoes are super close to the ground. They feel incredible. They are super flexible (again, I’m an elementary school teacher and I’m very active, so I’m always moving twisting and bending at school) and I love feeling every last nook and cranny of the surface I’m walking on.Totally worth it!Yes, I bought 0.5 size larger than I usually wear and I am happy to of made the choice. From Canada, Thank you Xero! I’ll be a returning customer.
