Complete game changer for me

I purchased this version of the Prio after picking up my first pair of Xero Piro (suade) at REI. The suade is fantastic for everyday wear around town, while I use these for more active pursuits. I have a very high arch and was skeptical that a minimalist, zero drop shoe would be the answer to my chronic foot pain and crunched pinky toe. In fact, I expected it to make the problem worse, but decided to give them a shot with nothing to lose. This is game changing footwear for me. From the instant I put the Prio's on, I knew these might be something good. The wider toe box is a huge improvement for my foot, and the lacing/strap system dials in the prefect snug fit on my foot. I as I started to gradually wear these more and more each day, I noticed long dormant muscles in my calves and hips "waking up". I'm not a runner, I am a desk jockey, so feeling these muscles ignite after switching shoes was amazing. My true test of these shoes (to see if they would be a killer to my arch) was to wear them all day around the San Diego Zoo. I was AMAZED that my feet felt amazing, my arch felt fantastic, and with the bigger toe box, my feet could swell and still not experience discomfort. The last bonus is that I can wear these shoes with my Correct Toes toe spreader. My only, ONLY quip on this version of the prio is this: they feel just a little bit more narrow in the toe box than the suade version. I am now a convert. I can't believe these shoes made such a vast difference in my overall foot comfort and well being. I am also thankful that Xero has a line of shoes for every need I have from a water shoe to winter boot. I will be converting all my shoes to zero drop/Xero shoes going forward.

Fit: Snug, a little more narrow than other wide toe-box shoes. Very, very comfortable and easy to slip on and off.Utility: The sole is very hard, like a plasticky-rubber. I assume this was done to match their warranty claim of 5,000 miles or whatever it is. I've been wearing these in 80-90F weather and the toe-box gets a little warm and isn't super breathable, at least I felt that way while in direct sunlight. They are still very comfy on the foot. I went on a hike with these on an unmarked trail in desert terrain, jogging in jagged rocks to fist sized rocks and these had no issue trotting me along. Even with my foot slipping and sliding inside the shoe (inevitable in this terrain, shoe was not to blame), the sole shows no signs of coming unglued. I'm sure time will tell and that repeated abuse like this will wear them down like any shoe. Due to the firm sole, it does not grip well at all for climbing up rocks outdoors and is actually quite slippery compared to any type of normal shoe with a thicker sole.Appearance: I got the gray ones and they are appropriate for just about all settings from the workplace to the gym.Value: While I believe barefoot shoes to be overpriced in general, I really like these shoes and was glad to get them on sale when they first came out.Did they change anything to address the unglued sole that is a common issue? I know the price went up, maybe that's their way to compensate. But I really hope these last a while and I look forward to my next pair in a year or so when these start to wear out.In summary, I've only had these about two weeks but am very happy with them and they seem like great shoes.

These shoes helped with the wide toe box (working with the elderly and seeing how our shoes squish your toes over time was eye opening, so this is my favorite feature about this shoe). How lightweight they are helped with fatigue. The lack of heal is my next favorite feature, I hate inclined heals in shoes as it hurts my knees and feet and can cause flare ups in my plantar fasciitis. These minimalist shoes however don’t help much with shock absorption or protection from hitting the sides of your feet, so my feet do feel beat up at the end of the day at times (and also can flare up my plantar fasciitis). I have finally (after years) found a shock absorbing shoe insert that finally makes these my favorite shoes! (Wish you guys at zero shoes made your own just for these shoes so the fit is perfect. could help with transitioning to a minimalist shoe or people with other foot issues?!)These have off and on been my go to shoes for I think 4+ years (for work or for outside walks/biking/errands etc, can’t do hiking the terrain is too rough for me in a minimal shoe my feet feet like they’ve been in a boxing ring). I finally have to retire them after all this time (falling apart in places and I could glue it back together but they have seen so much sweat and puddles and hours of wet feet inside them I can no longer get the stink out even after a baking soda and vinegar bath this time around. Sure beats other shoes where the heals wear down and that creates more foot, knee and back pain. I really appreciate how long these lasted and how much of a beating they took as I don’t have a lot of disposable income. Buying shoes every 6 months for work was killing me, some I was ripping holes in within a month. My biggest con (only other one is the hard impact of these shoes does cause me foot pain without a shock absorbing insert) is sometimes I cannot stand driving in them or any activity I roll my foot back on my heel. The seam of the sole to soft upper part of the shoe just really irritates my back heel and becomes at times very painful! (even without the inserts I put in) Especially for something I have to hold that position for like driving. Maybe something to work on in future designs to help protect the bone and sensitive area there when it is rolled back on the heel? I seriously can’t wear these on road trips if I’m driving because of this and even sometimes switch for my commute drive home. Maybe it’s me (I’m maybe just not there with the flexibility and strength for this level of minimalist shoe?) or daily abuse of my feet cause otherwise these work well for everything but rough/rocky hiking trails.

Oh sweet baby Suedes, how I love you so
21 June 2023

First and foremost: these are great shoes and I love them. Very comfortable, a great transition shoe from my Z-Trails into something I can wear to the office, and are my everyday shoes at this point. The insole/sole thickness has been perfect for office wear/conventions/everything in between.Small cons: I had a lot of trouble with the tightness of the laces on the top of my foot, which caused a weird nerve issue until I figured out a better solution. I ended up purchasing a pair of Kiwi elastic laces from Walmart and they have made things 500% better, and having slip on Prios is top tier.I've also worn off one single corner of the suede on my heel because of how my foot rests when I drive, but that's not really a deal breaker.Story time: I went to a conference ...Ā MoreFirst and foremost: these are great shoes and I love them. The Rockports didn't even leave the hotel room after I wore my Prios.I took a chance on my Prios and wore them to the conference itself, which was an amazing decision. What I didn't anticipate was wearing them to Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire state parks. While I lamented the suede + hiking combo (and it was too chilly for my Z-Trails), they were absolute champions. My own body issues (nerve pain/back pain/etc) were more of an impediment than my shoes, and they were rock stars as I clambered over rocks, hiked trails, and even ventured into a surprise snowy enclave to look at some petroglyphs. The trip + my shoes were a combo that showed me just what my body was capable of, even when I thought that a back surgery/other ailments had me out for the count. I've since bought another pair of regular Prios, and am looking forward to other shoes as I explore working out and reclaiming my life/body in the process.

I have worn them for long walks and light jogs, and they provide just the right amount of cushioning while still allowing my feet to move naturally. Whether I'm running errands or hitting the gym, these shoes have become my go-to choice for ultimate comfort.Style: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…Not only are the Xero Shoes Suede Prio comfortable, but they are also stylish and versatile. The suede material adds a touch of sophistication, making them suitable for casual outings or even slightly dressier occasions. The design is sleek and modern, and the earthy color options perfectly complement various outfits. These shoes have received numerous compliments, and I love how they effortlessly elevate my look.Durability: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜†I've been using the Xero Shoes Suede Prio for a few months now, and overall, they have held up well to regular use. The suede upper is surprisingly resilient, showing minimal signs of wear despite my active lifestyle. The sole, made of Xero Shoes' durable rubber, has great traction and seems to resist abrasion. However, the suede is susceptible to scuffs, so a little extra care is necessary to maintain their appearance.Breathability: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜†The Xero Shoes Suede Prio are relatively breathable, thanks to the perforations in the suede upper. That said, I appreciate the balance between breathability and protection the shoes offer.Price: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜†The Xero Shoes Suede Prio falls into a higher price range, but they are undoubtedly worth the investment. Given their excellent comfort, style, and durability, they are a step above other minimalist shoes on the market. While I wish I could afford multiple pairs, I am confident that their quality will ensure they last for a long time, making them a valuable addition to my shoe collection. Conclusion:In conclusion, the Xero Shoes Suede Prio has won me over with its exceptional comfort, stylish design, and impressive durability. From casual strolls to light workouts, they have proven to be the perfect companion for my daily activities. While they come with a higher price tag, the overall quality and versatility make them well worth it. If you're seeking a top-notch minimalist shoe that combines comfort and style flawlessly, the Xero Shoes Suede Prio should be at the top of your list.

Sooo Much More Comfortable than Traditional Shoes
22 December 2022

I’ll admit, I ordered these shoes with no previous experience with Xero, other than seeing advertisements online. I’m a committed HIIT and kettlebell workout guy, and typically perform all exercises barefoot when I can (weather and fitness center rules permitting), so I was interested in a zero-drop barefoot style shoe.My first impression was the obvious manufacturing quality of the shoe - top notch. When I initially put them on, it felt a little strange with zero drop because all of my shoes have some sort of elevated heel. Walking around initially felt awkward, and I noticed a definite tightness in my calves after walking a few miles - likely due to the additional leg stretch since my heels were on the same level as my forefoot. That tightness faded after a few days of continuing to wear the shoes.I also noticed that I could feel a lot more through my feet - imperfections in the flooring, changes in surface hardness, and the occasional rock or pebble (ouch!), but I’ve found I prefer feeling more in tune with the ground. Yes, that sounds weird and touchy feel-ly (which I am not), but it’s true.I initially intended to wear these only for workouts, but after wearing them casually a few times and forgetting to take them off, I realized how comfortable they actually are! The big revelation was after wearing my Zero shoes daily for about 3 weeks, I put on a pair of my expensive, ā€œbig brandā€ running shoes because I was going to be walking around all day on a concrete floor at a convention center and thought the additional cushioning would be better - wrong! After a few hours those shoes (which I previously considered comfortable) were killing my feet, and I felt the cushioning was excessive and actually made me feel less balanced. The next day I wore my Xeros to the same place and walked around all day long with no foot pain - other than what you’d expect for being on your feet for 8 hours straight.Long story short, I can’t recommend these shoes enough. They are light, breathable and exceptionally comfortable. I’ll definitely be purchasing again in the future - particularly if they come out with some dress or business-casual shoes for the office workplace!

Pairs of shoes that offer ridiculously thick padding or arch support are actually preventing your foot from being a proper foot. Not to mention the cramped toe boxes that we've come to expect from modern pairs of shoes prevent our toes from spreading out and providing good tactile feedback to the ground and helping us to balance better.Like I said, I had never put much thought into barefoot style shoes, but I liked the design of the Prio, so I figured I'd try them out. The first day I got them, I decided to go out for a walk without the additional (removeable) insole that comes with the shoes. If I'm going to try something new, I might as well go all-out, right?I went out for a 2 mile walk that day at a local park, and it was a euphoric experience. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but hear me out! My walk took me down gravel paths, across wooden bridges, and through grassy fields. Being able to walk through those different environments and feel the different textures of the ground was such a unique sensation. I've never gone on a walk before where I felt so plugged in to my environment, and it's exactly as amazing as you might expect it to be.Remember that whole thing about modern shoes preventing our feet from being feet? After my 2 mile walk, my feet were super sore. Not in a "oh no, I've injured myself" kind of way, but sore like you just got done a good workout kind of sore. After about a week of wearing the shoes, my feet got used to doing their own job again. But that's also when I realized that these shoes absolutely ruined my expectations for other shoes. The nice waterproof hiking shoes/boots that I got for wet outdoor activities? I can't wear them anymore. They're too tight, too cramped, and the thick sole raises me off the ground in an unnatural way that throws off my balance. Steel toe work boots that are required by OSHA? So far I haven't found anything in the barefoot shoe industry that offers steel toes, so I'm stuck wearing super uncomfortable steel toe shoes for work. And I just ordered a pair of the Xero hiking sandals because I know I'm not going to wear the fancy new sandals I got last year with thick soles and arch support. I'm slowly replacing every pair of shoes I can with Xero shoes, they're that much better than everything else I own.One final note before I wrap up this overly-long review. I've seen comments online saying that Xero shoes have quality issues and that they don't last long at all. I put my Prio's through their paces in the first year. I've walked and ran in them (though I don't run much, so your mileage may vary there.) I have played plenty of disc golf in them, which puts a lot of torque through your hips/legs/feet when you're throwing. I've even thrown the removeable insole back into the shoes and used them as my primary shoes for riding my Onewheel. I still haven't managed to seriously damage these shoes, and I'm trying my best!Sorry for the wall of text, but I have a lot to say about these shoes. Give them a shot, you'll seriously love them!

They've held up well through various terrains and activities.Flexible Sole: The flexible sole allows for natural foot movement, which is particularly beneficial during activities that require agility.Versatility: These shoes are versatile enough for both outdoor adventures and casual urban wear. They look great with various outfits.Zero Drop: Xero Prio shoes have a zero-drop design, meaning there's no height difference between the heel and forefoot. This promotes a natural posture and reduces the risk of discomfort or injury.Cons:Minimal Cushioning: While the minimal cushioning is a pro for some, others may find it uncomfortable if they're used to more cushioned shoes, especially on rough terrains.Sizing Consideration: It's important to follow the sizing guide provided by Xero to ensure the perfect fit. Some users have reported sizing issues, so double-checking measurements is crucial. In summary, Xero Prio shoes are a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a minimalist, barefoot shoe that supports an active lifestyle. They excel in providing a natural feel and allowing your feet to move freely, promoting overall foot health and comfort. These shoes are versatile, durable, and lightweight, making them suitable for a wide range of activities. While the minimal cushioning may not be for everyone, those who appreciate the barefoot experience will find these shoes to be a top-notch option. I highly recommend Xero Prio shoes to anyone looking for freedom and comfort in their footwear.

a sleek, quality Xero shoe
15 March 2023

I have a black pair of Prios as my everyday shoe, which I love, and wanted to get another pair of in a light color for summer running. The Neos appeared during the spring sale so I decided to try them out because why not and since they were cheaper during the promo than the standard Prios. These are good shoes but now, in hindsight, I can definitely say that I prefer the standard Prios. I don't need to go into detail here describing why barefoot shoes are great and all the features that make Xero shoes awesome. The Neos have all of that going for them as well as looking real sleek and smooth. They also feature flat laces which are good and tie extra securely (though standard tubular laces are fine too in most cases). But what I wish I could have known prior to ...Ā MoreI have a black pair of Prios as my everyday shoe, which I love, and wanted to get another pair of in a light color for summer running. The Neos have all of that going for them as well as looking real sleek and smooth. They also feature flat laces which are good and tie extra securely (though standard tubular laces are fine too in most cases). But what I wish I could have known prior to purchasing was how different the material of the upper is. It is inherently a bit stiffer compared to the Prio and HFS (no problem) but also it is way less breathable. I can put my mouth against the mesh of the Prios or the Mesa Trails (similar upper to HFS) and easily blow air through it. The mesh of the Neos is significantly more dense and harder to blow air through. Perhaps this will increase their durability but this makes the Neos a bit worse for hot weather in my opinion and slightly better for colder weather. But the standard Prios are fine for me from the hottest summer heat until 40 degrees F and sometimes even lower. So I think breathability is pretty important to me and I'd prefer the upper to be more like the Prios. These are still great shoes that will serve me for many years and I'm sure many people prefer this type of upper but it seems I'm more on the side of the super light mesh, very soft, and breathable models.
