Solid product and very easy to use once you've installed it. However, Yakima, time for your engineers to go back to KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Way overdesigned and unnecessarily complicated to put on. If the bolt drops down a bit and isn't sticking out enough to attach the thumbscrew to, then it's a nightmare to push it back up while trying to hold the washer on and get the thumbscrew started at the same time. Even with two people trying to hold everything at once. There is no reason it should be this hard for a simple ski rack.

Sturdy, nice piano-black finish. Levered hinge works smoothly and locks to secure the whole thing. I have carried three pairs of skis successfully. I believe this item is discontinued so you may be able to find a clearance price.

Just installed my Fatcat 4 EVOs on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Product feels very well constructed, and the concept behind the tool-free installation is good, but the execution is a bit of a swing and a miss. The two mounts that go on the front (side that opens) of the rack are quite easy to put on. Unfortunately the two rears are a different story. The built in lift to raise the rack further from the roof for big bindings, great idea, but the lift causes the bolts from the mounts into the rack to be a bit too short. What should have been a 10 minute job, like described in the notes on the installation, turned out to be closer to 30, and the two rear mounts are not nearly as snug as the fronts. Just purchased this rack a few weeks ago and used it in a big storm cycle in the Mountain West. Overall it works great with one caveat - DO NOT lock it when it's freezing. It took ~30 minutes to get the key into the lock(s) on each piece. I've heard other issues with this, but overall works great otherwise.
Piece of cake .... unbox, zero tools, clamped on our 2018 Toyota Four Runner factory cargo bars, done.... honest sub 10 minute job.Only tip is that in order to close strap clamp at hinge side of rack you need to leave clamp bolt loose so you can tilt rack from side to side. Tip away from closure, close strap closure. Then tip level and tighten clamp bolt.The issue is clamp latch will hit optional lift bar if you don’t follow above order and your not able to latch shut.
There is absolutely no road noise or whistling whatsoever. I was shocked at how quiet they were that I thought they had fallen off. Super strong as well. Definitely fits 4 seats is skis easily.
I’ve had good success with other Yakima products, and really like their matching key system. This ski rack is super disappointing for a number of reasons. Other reviews talk about needing to follow directions for fitting. The directions are fine, the design isn’t. Having a super small metal wheel to tighten the strap is bad enough when you’ve warm, dry fingers, but forget it when you’ve wet gloves. Worse, there’s no locking mechanism. See one of these on a car? Four easy clips and the skis and rack are yours. Come on Yakima, you’ve got the key system, make it useful.

Some units use security bolts, which can be fine but I like how these offer more security. I also appreciate the built in ski lift. It's nice that it can be done on the fly because the wrench stores within the unit, and the other is a thumb screw. Some units have separate ski lift attachments, but this one has it ready to go at all times with just a slight adjustment to the system. If in the future Yakima was able to create a carrier where the ski lift can be raised w/o having to partially un-do the system, then that would be a great bonus. The product is fantastic. Easy to install. I drive 8 hours with 5 skis on the top without any problem. Putting the skis on and off the top is also straight forward. I would recommend the product any time.
