Yamaha A1M Acoustic Electric Guitar - Vintage Natural

$719.00

(101 reviews)

The Yamaha A1M Vintage Natural is the affordable entry model of the high-quality A-series of the Japanese manufacturer known for its outstanding quality. It impresses with its unique elegance and perfect acoustic and amplified sound image. Thanks to a solid Sitka spruce top, this traditional dreadnought acoustic guitar produces a clear and assertive tone, which is gently enriched with the warm bass frequencies of the laminated mahogany body. Another highlight is the flat mahogany neck carrying an elegant rosewood fretboard. Thanks to a slim nut width of 43 mm, it can be comfortably gripped in all 20 frets. In addition, a generous cutaway helps reaching the higher positions which, thanks to the meticulous workmanship of the urea saddle and nut, intonate clearly. In order to reproduce a natural sound, the manufacturer relies on the in-house "System 66" with SRT piezo pickup including a 3-band equalizer and a tuner. This otherwise simple guitar is decorated with a light mahogany binding forming a tasteful transition between the coloured top wood and the body. The Yamaha A1M Vintage Natural is rounded off with chrome-plated Yamaha TM29T die-cast tuners that allow the player to tune the 6 steel strings with ease and precision. The Yamaha A1M Vintage Natural at a glance: Dreadnought electro acoustic guitar with cutaway. Solid Sitka spruce top and laminated mahogany body. Chrome-plated Yamaha TM29T die-cast tuners. Multi-layer bindings made of light mahogany and plastic layers. Mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and 20 frets. 43 mm wide urea nut and matching urea saddle. Yamaha System 66 with SRT piezo pickup system and integrated tuner. High-gloss finish .

ANOTHER AMAZING QUALITY YAMAHA INSTRUMENT!

I wanted another acoustic with a different set of tonal response that could "cut through" better when needed, especially live, and I found that in this A1M. The mahogany back, sides, and neck imparts just the right amount of forward presence, with more attack than a mostly rosewood model. Vintage sized, nickel silver frets on an ebony fingerboard are a perfect match feel great on your fingers; this is unmistakable and unique! The bleached mahogany binding on the fingerboard and the inlay on the rosette are understated and elegant; if you play well, the sound will speak for itself. These are great instruments and very under-rated. I think that Yamaha acoustic's above this price point are equally nice, but don't seem to represent as high a level of value as the A1's , the LL's, and even the top end FG's.

The neck/frets are nice and smooth/rounded. The action is low...almost electric guitar low. This is my new favorite acoustic guitar.

Best playability and tone for the $'s Try it and just listen
21 March 2022

I wanted to replace my Guild 260CE and tried to buy a couple of used Takamine's and they both had major issues so I went to the acoustic room and started trying guitars. Really liked the Taylor 110e until my salesman Bill said "here, try this". Normally I only buy used guitars and had no idea I was trying a new guitar until after I'd made the decision to purchase this one. The tone and playability were obvious instantly. I've never enjoyed an acoustic so much and after having owned it for a while still in love with playing it and keep reaching for it. A guitar you keep wanting to play is a keeper and this Yamaha punched all the features. To me, the laminated sides and back are a plus and expect this guitar to play well year round and keep it hydrated anyway so it ... MoreI wanted to replace my Guild 260CE and tried to buy a couple of used Takamine's and they both had major issues so I went to the acoustic room and started trying guitars. Bright sound
18 October 2022

I have been playing this guitar for about 2 1/2 years now. On it's own it has a bright tinny sound to it, which is fine of you like that sound. However, I plugged it into an acoustic amp and was able to dial in some bass and take some of the top end out and it is incredible!!!! The star of the show is definitely the amp. I would probably look for something else in the future with a deeper tone. But, I do like it and it plays well!

HIDDEN GEM IN YAMAHA'S UPLINE ACOUSTICS

Went to local GC to try and auditon an LL6M or an LL16M and got shown this A Series by the store manager, who had both a dread and a concert size in stock. I immediately went for the dreat cutaway and was more then impressed with the tone quality and what I saw in the construction of the guitar. Basically a huge step up from the FG and FGX models, but not that much additional cost. Better tone woods, amazing combination of wood and plastisol binding, solid satin finished mahogany headstock with MOP logo inlay, and in my case, a striped ebony fingerboard with polished mahogany binding, white position markers on the side and abalone dots on top. Tinted top conjurs up images of older Martins and Guilds with cedar or Adriondak spruce tops. Best to change out the plastic nut and saddle, which for this caliber of instrument, makes no sense and is the only negative. A.R.T electonics and a sophisticated piezo under saddle pickup produce a clear and genuine sound of the guitar. Unmatched value in a guitar that, with just a couple of minor changes, will hold it's own with Martins and Taylors costing twice as much or more!

Had intent to spend allot more - couldn't top the A1M
29 December 2019

Set out to find a low/mid range Taylor or Martin as a treat to myself in July 2018. I was prepared to spend up to $2K on a guitar (which I'd never done before). After playing several dozen guitars - many of which fell in the $1K-$2K+ range - at 1/2 dozen places, I was unable to find one I thought gave better or more consistent sound than what became my new (and current) guitar. I play my A1M CE every day and have done open mic's (in Austin) with some regularity; as well as casual pick/sing-alongs with friends and family.Tuning is never an issue. Action is great. No concerns about how well it has held up (still beautiful). That said, I'm very content with my guitar and feel quite proud of it when I'm playing with folks who know what's what with a guitar. I don't expect to "upgrade" any time soon.

Happily surprised
3 November 2020

I've played for 20 years, largely electric, gigging around Boston with a 50-50 covers-originals band. I started on a flamenco beginner, and only had an entry level no-name for the last 7 years, so decided to upgrade to something I could gig with in small clubs, outdoor gigs, and record with both the out jack & placing a mic on the sound hole to complement our largely electric rock gigs.I had been thinking about the lower end Martin's, Taylors, and D'Angelico, but after another reviewer mentioned the bang for your buck factor & quality you get from Yamaha vs. lower end Martin/Taylor, I did my own research on Premier Guitar, independent reviews & YouTube, only to be super impressed with the sound & build quality. Since I'm (technically) a millennial & stuck inside during COVID, I went for it via online purchase and was not let down in any way.Super impressed with the bass and top end, plugged in and purely acoustic. I'm a big fan of the scooped mids (habit from playing a fender tube amp for years). Great upper fret access, great quality of woods, and i haven't tuned the thing since I got it in the mail. Love the onboard tuner and EQ, and have to say the Trans Black color is ridiculously cool (although it's definitely more Black-brown than the black-blue the pictures portray, at least in natural light (non-flash). But you can see the woodgrain in a good light, reminiscent of a Gibson finish on an electric - which is why i was drawn to it initially.Overall happy as a clam after a couple weeks -- happy jamming to all!

Love this guitar
15 July 2018

I was looking for a good steel string acoustic guitar but didn't want to spend $1000 dollars on one . Went to my local Guitar Center and played a lot of different brand name guitars in the $500 dollar range . I finally narrowed my search down to 3 possible guitars , 2 Yamaha's and a Seagull . The 2 Yamaha's are the same model but one of them had a better sound and awesome sustain . I must say though that I very nearly chose the Seagull S6 Original , very nice guitar . This Yamaha I chose has a slightly better sound and the sustain could not be beat . Not only does it sound great but the playability of it is like that of a much more expensive guitar . The action is incredibly low without any buzz. I looked up the guitar on Guitar Centers site and the description said the same . I bought this guitar thinking it was solid wood but it's actually a mahogany laminate. This was kind of a let down for me but nevertheless it's really all about how it sounds and plays . One more thing on the sustain, it just rings for the longest time , really beautiful. As it's ringing it has a sort of slight reverb effect and I can feel it through the back up against my abdomen. I have not found many guitars in this price range that do that .

I've had it about a year...replaced the tuners with locking...I didn't like the originals...they were the cheapest thing about this guitar. It's got it's own sound. It doesn't sound like my Martin...nor my friends Taylor...it sounds like this Yamaha.I got it because of the neck...it's thin...like my electric guitars. I play this like my electric guitars...lots of notes. If you're looking for an acoustic that has a neck closer to an electric...this is a good choice. I put 9s on mine...not loud...not a lot of bass...but boy...does it play nice.I'd replace it if stolen/destroyed.
