I play in a band a few times a year and in a duo/solo gig a few more. I own several high-end guitars and this one is on par with all of them. The neck is more comfortable than my 34 year-old $2500.00 plus acoustic. The SRT preamp is far superior to any other guitar I've owned in the last 10 years. I have owned sound processor preamps in 3 different acoustics that don't come close to this guitar. That's enough comparing. I play Travis-style picking, bluegrass flatpicking, country, and "red dirt". I've been a working musician for almost 40 years and I began with Yamaha and after 20+ years I'm back. I'll probably buy a AC3R also. They play that good and I want a backup that looks like the guitar I already have. I'm through with my other electric/ acoustics. I'm glad to ... This is my first Yamaha and I absolutely love this guitar! I Pastor a church, lead worship and write music with my wife. I have a Takamine Cedar/Mahogany all solid wood and recently I parted with my Gibson Song Writer Deluxe Ovanghol that I never quite really bonded with and just wasn't satisfied with. This Yamaha was going to originally be the one I was going to purchase but the Gibson was just a great deal that I couldn't pass up at the time. Looking back I wish I would have just ordered the Yamaha and never looked back. For a dreadnought it doesn't have a boomy sound but it is well balanced unplugged. Very impressive. The neck profile is so comfortable and the fret board is easy navigate with no buzzing. I did try out the coated strings that came with it but to my ears they sound slightly tinny so I put on DAddario lights and it just sings! Overall the aesthetics are higher end but not overdone. The binding around the body is a gorgeous balance between the spruce top and rose wood sides.Again, I wish I would have jumped on this before and passed on the Gibson. My local guitar center didn't have one is stock but they ordered for me and it came from Yamaha Chicago in about a week. Well worth the wait and I have no regrets. One more thing, the case for this guitar is better than any case I've ever had for any guitar period. It's a locking case with arched top, black with gold hardware, and inside there are the goodies including batteries and a cool Yamaha logo'd feedback sound hole cover. I have one already but it was a nice touch and greatly appreciated!

I am a live/recording musician.I was looking for a high quality live sound from a dreadnought style guitar to work in a band situation comprising of percussion,Bass, violin, lead acoustic/electric guitar. The A3R cuts through the mix and finds its place comfortably in that mix. But I do feel that this should be something that should have been picked up on at the final quality check at the factory and most definitely should have been corrected by the supplier Guitar Village as they promised me that the guitar would be checked over and adjusted before shipment by a guitar tech.Buy this guitar with absolute confidence in the quality of its build and its sound plugged in or not.Great guitar, great quality and playabilty .MalThe Lost Mountain Orchestra,Ibiza, Spainwww. lostmountainorchestra. com

I have been a fan of Yamaha guitars since late 1970s and lately of the SRT electronics. I was looking for a more pronounce base (warmer, deeper) than what I was getting from my Yamaha CPX1000. So I consulted my Yamaha Sales guy "Jake Blake", as usual his honest and customer first attitude helped me narrow it down to the A3s, I chose A3R over A3M since rosewood is thought to have warmer tones etc... over mahogany. Before purchasing the A3R, I went to a local guitar store and tried A3R side by side with a similarly priced (and even 70% higher) acoustic-electric Martin and Taylor. In my opinion the A3R gave me more per dollar-spent and had a superior sound, build, quality and performed better than the other two even at half the cost!I was also impressed with the new ... In my opinion the A3R gave me more per dollar-spent and had a superior sound, build, quality and performed better than the other two even at half the cost!I was also impressed with the new A3R's neck & action, When I first saw the advertisements about the new A3s' design, I assumed it to be a hype but when I tried an A3R out I realized, it was true, the neck on A3 is more ergonomic than the CPX, FGX and FX series. The A3R workmanship and wood quality is A+, I even used a telescopic led-mirror and looked inside and was impressed. It seems that some of the wood-bracings are re-enforced with cloth fibers, all electronics are nicely tucked away, everything inside is shaved, sanded and assembled clean, no glue-runs no splinters. The only problem I had was, when I received my A3R and unpacked it, the D string on first, second and third frets was buzzing even after letting it acclimate for few hours, I had to loosen the truss rod 3/4 turn (135 degrees CCW) to get rid of the buzz, I think the inspectors at Yamaha factory should have cut that.Over all, I love this guitar and will buy it again, the Yamaha included case is also a very nice addition.
I bought this guitar without trying it. It sounds great and the pickup is nice with a lot of different settings. I picked it up at a local store out of a factory sealed box. There were some minor cosmetic issues that I noticed. There was some glue residue on the base of the neck and by the head. The body however looked nicely finished.
I gig once or twice a month in an acoustic duo. This is my go to guitar. I had to tweak the neck a little and wipe off some wax that was on the fret board (turned my finger tips black) but that was it. There seems to be some 'over kill' in the electronics. They have a lot of options and blending that you can do, but I've only found about 2 settings that are really useful. That said, they sound amazing. It lacks low-end unplugged and isn't very loud. However, as a plugged in gigging guitar, I doubt you can do better for the money.
I was looking for a second preamped guitar that I could leave tuned down a 1/2 step for quick switches during coffee house and slightly rowdier bar performances. I play everything from Hank Williams Sr. to SRV, and getting older means it's getting harder to hit those high young Neil Young vocal notes.I decided to look at the A3R (vintage burst) because of the System63 SRT. My main box is a 4-year old Yamaha CPX1200 - my Black Beauty - an absolutely stunning guitar physically and sonically, which I absolutely adore. The CPX1200 has the prior version System62 SRT so when I tried out the A3R I did not even plug it in. I just assumed the newer Sys63 SRT would be be some sort of improvement over the Sys62. Physically, the two look the same and are controlled ... I just assumed the newer Sys63 SRT would be be some sort of improvement over the Sys62. Physically, the two look the same and are controlled identicaly.First things first, the A3R acoustially is just fabulous. And so, based on that and my general admiration of Yamaha guitars (I own six), I bought the guitar (now seven!).However, the difference in the low end between the two when plugged in is substantial. Where my CPX goes "Boom!" the A3R goes "Tang". I realize that one is a Medium Jumbo and the other a Dreadnought (both cutaways), and, yes, even two of the same model of guitar can sound different, and that the mic modeling is going to come out different. But the all-solid materials are the same, and general dimentions and air volumes are nearly the same. And we are, after all, talking about running under the electronics.I can only surmise that the reduced low end on the A3R compared to the CPX is due to the difference in the construction of the saddle and PUs. The CPX1200's PUs and saddle are bonded into one piece; you cannot simply swap out the saddle to, say, a bone saddle, as you would destroy the PUs in the proccess. The A3R is more 'normal' in that the saddle is replacable/swappable/upgradable. Meaning, on the A3R there is that slight (microscopic?) physical disconnect seen in virtually all other undersaddle PUs.All that said, the A3R is still a wonderful instrument. Not surprising, fit and finish is outdone by no one. Playabilty and acoustic response is outstanding. And the SRT is still far and away the best onboard preamp available.
I use the product to practice and play in small groups. It is very easy to play and has great sound. It is very well made and really beautiful. The only problem I had was that it arrived without some items (Truss Rod Adjuster, sound hole cover, battery, owner's manual) and the rep that was contacted did not respond to our request for these items. Otherwise, I am very satisfied.
This is an excellent guitar, and I was impressed with the detailing and finish. There are no sharp frets or imperfections. The sound is impressive as well. The case that is included is high-quality and helps protect the guitar in shipment. There is also adequate padding inside the box. So even with the Fedex or UPS guys throwing it around it should get to you intact.
For the price it's hard to beat. Replacing the urea (plastic) nut and saddle with tusq or bone will improve the tone. Plugged in the guitar sounds quite good. When I replaced the saddle with tusq I fine tuned the intonation and string height. I purchased mine as "B" stock. Best 600.00 I've ever spent on an acoustic guitar.
