Yamaha APXT2 Dark Red Burst Electric-Acoustic Guitar

I wish I hadn't wasted my time on the cheaper "beginner" guitars and just started with this one. I actually WANT to practice on this one. It sounds nicer than anything I've played before & feels great to play with my stubby little hands. Beautiful clean sound when plugged in. The built in tuner is really handy. And it's super portable - even comes with its own gig bag.If you've got small hands and want to play guitar but find it too frustrating because you're constantly struggling to play an F chord on a full-size fret board, I'd highly recommend giving this beauty a try.

I haven't connected it to an amp yet so cannot comment on the pickups etc.Disappointments:It doesn't hold tune very well. I have to retune after almost every song - I'm not an aggressive player - strumming and some finger picking. I'm unsure if it is the quality of the strings or the machine heads. I've seen a couple of reviews online where the machine heads have been replaced with better ones to sort this out.The gig bag is rubbish and has no padding at all. I am really, really happy with this guitar despite its shortcomings. I'll get the bad stuff out of the way up front: The frets on my guitar are scratchy -- whenever I bend a note, there's an audible scratching sound as the string rubs against the metal fret. I reckon taking it to a luthier for a set-up will solve the issue. The other thing is that some of the higher-pitched notes (for example, notes played after the 10th fret on the B and e strings) don't have a lot of sustain. The guitar is pretty small, almost feels like I'm holding an electric. Feels good to play while standing.You'll have to be a little creative to play certain chords because of the smaller size (good luck playing an A chord -- tough to fit three fingers on that second fret!) but you'll find a way. This guitar is worth it.This isn't a criticism, but one thing to gently remind you of is that this is not a dreadnought. I brought it to a neighbor's house to jam, and thank goodness we were using amps, because his dreadnought was so loud next to my dinky guitar that I thought he'd already turned his amp on -- he hadn't!

Fun travel/practice guitar

I purchased this guitar for myself to use when I travel, but it is so convenient to just grab whenever I have some time, it's becoming my go to practice guitar at home. This guitar is so comfortable to play, I can practice much longer without becoming fatigued. At first I had difficulty figuring out how to hold the thing, but then I just started holding it more like a classical guitar or mandolin, and everything fell into place. I thought the shorter scale length might be a problem when transitioning to a standard scale length guitar, but I'm not finding that to be the case. The on-board tuner is very convenient and the batteries are very easily accessed. The electronics are simple, but more than adequate. The tuning machines are a bit chintzy, but my guitar is staying in tune fairly well. The sound is surprisingly large for such a small guitar, even when unplugged. Its sound is on the brighter side, and lacks the richness you would expect in a larger, more expensive guitar, but I wouldn't compare it to a ukulele as others have done. It definitely has a guitar sound. The only negatives I would give are on the finish--the fret edges are a bit sharp and the finish has a few very small factory defects--and the gig bag which is not much more than a dust cover with handles. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. My rating is in comparison with similar guitars. I've tried out a few 3/4 size guitars in this price range, and this one is definitely a notch above the others.

Good starter guitar for a child

I think this would make a nice travel guitar for an adult who wanted something small enough to take on trips and cheap enough to not be too bothered if it got damaged, but I bought it as a first guitar for my 10 year old son, and for that purpose it is great, for the following reasons:1. Stays in tune2. Includes in-built tuner3. Correct size4. Not too loudIt's also really well built with nice action and a comfortable neck. I have not plugged it in to test the pickup/preamp sound yet, but I know from reviews that it works very well when and if he ever needs to be amplified or recorded.Also, I must say that service and delivery from Music Store Professional was top notch. Great little guitar!

I received mine for Christmas. I'm a professional musician. I teach and perform often. I only say that for the beginning musicians or if someone wants the opinion of someone that has many years of experience. It played great out of the box, but I set mine up to the specs I like. I love playing this guitar! I can take it and play it anywhere in the house! Of course, you cannot expect it to sound like a really expensive guitar, but I honestly love the tone unplugged. It sounds old school. Plugged in, it's great, and I will be playing it at my next gig! I will bring another acoustic, in case I need it, but otherwise, I'll be sporting this thing the whole night! Strap buttons already installed, and you get a gig bag too! Perfect for grab and go!

Review of Yamaha APX T2 Travel Size Electro Acoustic Guitar in Natural

I love this little guitar, it's so easy to play with my small hands and arthritis. It looks great, and isn't too loud when practicing in the house, and doesn't disturb anyone, including the neighbours. I did change the strings to a lighter gauge to suite my personal taste, and smoothed a couple of slightly rough frets, but that was it, ready to go! All in all a great little travel guitar.

I was looking for a "travel" guitar and had a number of options under review.Going into the Guitar guitar store gave me chance to see some of them but I was amazed by the really compact size of the APXT2. And the sound it produces acoustically was quite surprisingly good. The fact that you can plug it into an amp is a great bonus and the amplified sound is amazing.The Sore had my preferred colour in stock and at the offered price it was a no brainer. Very happy with it.

Sweet travel companion

Came with high action. Truss rod was adjusted fine but saddle was very high. Removed 12-53 strings replaced with custom light 11-52's and sanded approximately 1/16th inch off saddle. Now plays way easier and with far better action. Could even sand a little more at next string change. Guitar is just plain fun, enough space between frets for most chording and has a unique sound.
