Yamaha FG800 Gigmaker Acoustic Guitar Value Pack - Matte Finish
It All Starts Here When it was introduced in 1966, the Yamaha FG proved that a great acoustic guitar didn’t need to cost a fortune. With a focus on great playability, musical tone and outstanding build quality, the original FG180 quickly became a classic with countless careers and hit records starting life on an FG. 50 years since the introduction of the FG acoustics, the new range features the best-ever FG tone and the same great playability and class-leading quality that’s made it the choice of millions of guitarists. Wherever your musical journey’s going, it all starts here. The new FG has louder and stronger sound in the low- to mid-ranges, thanks to cutting-edge acoustic analysis technology developed by the Yamaha R&D Division. Yamaha’s engineers have achieved this sound by utilizing analysis and simulation to arrive at the best bracing design without depending on tradition or guesswork. This analysis led to the development of the new scalloped bracing pattern, a new and ideal acoustic structure that maintains the durability of the top board while bringing out the most sound the Yamaha FG has to offer. Every aspect of an FG is crafted to make a better guitar. From painstakingly cured and dried woods to beautiful hand-sprayed finishes and detailed quality control checks each and every FG is made to be a lifelong partner. The FG 800 features a traditional western body, solid Spruce top, Nato/Okume sides and back.

I’ve had a twelve string acoustic for many years and decided that during lockdown, I’d buy a reasonably priced six string to augment my collection. The reason for buying the FG800 was that my brother has had a Yamaha acoustic for ages and when I’ve played it, I’ve been really impressed with its tone, volume and playability. The new guitar doesn’t disappoint. It’s just what I was after and the finish on it looks great. Perhaps I will invest in a set of light gauge strings to replace the ones that came on the guitar as playing for up to an hour a day has made my fingers sore. I was a bit concerned about buying online, but shouldn’t have worried. The service from PMT was first class and the guitar was well protected in both the manufacturers packaging and that from ... The only improvement as I see it would be to label the package with “fragile” stickers, to make sure that couriers know how to treat it. However, all in all, I’m really pleased with my purchase.

My FG840 is a keeper. These guitars are a fantastic value, believe the hype. The guitar is perfectly constructed, feels good in the hand, plays easy and sounds great. No, it does not compete with my Martin and made in Japan Takamine. Those guitars are worth a thousand dollars more, and sound it. I only say that because some reviewers of relatively inexpensive instruments make such claims. However, I truly believe you can't beat Yahama in the marketplace for the price. I had it setup and re-strung with D'Addario EXP coated phosphor bronze lights. Sounds terrific. Played it for 3 hours when I brought it home. Very balanced clear sound, with good lows, mids and trebles. I've heard you won't get a lot of sustain from maple bodies, and that seems to be the case here. I ... MoreMy FG840 is a keeper. I was given a different, larger (and cheaper) Yamaha acoustic as a first guitar years back. I've since moved on to electric, but was looking for a higher quality and smaller acoustic of my own that wouldn't break the bank. I decided to go with this one after the Fender model I was originally interested in had a long delay. I am incredibly pleased with the playability, size and sound of this guitar. I intend to eventually get a higher-end acoustic, but this will keep me patient until then. Even afterwards, this will make a great travel guitar or something to keep in an alternative tuning. The strings that come with it are decent, but I replaced with some Ernieball Earthwoods and it made a world of difference!

This Yamaha instrument is well made. Especially for the price point of just under $200.00. I have purchased many Yamaha acoustics over the years and this guitar will not disappoint. No cosmetic flaws on this instrument, with a nice finish and worth checking out. I have been playing for over 40 years and am now retired, and I rate this guitar at 9.5 out of ten. Perfect for my finger style playing. Very full sounding board and visually appealing. Truss adjustment was made to tighten the action a bit to my personal preferred. The frets could use some polishing, as do most of acoustics at this price. I had purchased an identical instrument not too long ago and it also was a gem right out of the box, and decided to keep only one. Very comparable to an Ibanez Artwood ... I thought this guitar was overhyped but I went ahead and bought one in vintage nat. spent more time than I should have setting it up for playability. this is my 3rd acoustic.I got away from acoustics for many years just playing electric, so coming back to acoustic was a learning experience. This guitar has become the star of the show.I own an Alvarez MD60BG,a wonderful guitar, an Epiphone frontier which is my least favorite and the FG800.This guitar is simple and very effective. much louder than my epiphone almost as good in every way as my alvarez. Buy 1 and get it set up properly and you won't regret the few bucks spent on this.
I own guitars costing over $4000 and I never really ever thought I would be interested in buying a Yamaha but man was I was wrong!I wanted a beater that I didn't have to worry about getting dinged up but after it came in it looked so gorgeous that I treat it like my expensive flat tops. You shouldn't buy a guitar on looks but the pictures of this thing don't show it's true beauty. The fit and finish is flawless. The neck is slim and fast and the action is good. The only thing I changed were the tuners. There wasn't anything wrong with the chrome tuners that it came with as they were completely functional but I thought it needed the look of gold Grover's to match its somewhat deep golden brown overall appearance, just my personal taste. The Grover tuners fit right ... The Grover tuners fit right in the original peg head tuner holes without any problem or modification. The all mahogany guitar sounds very mellow and has a relatively deep bass but still has decent mid tones and highs and volume. It's hard to believe they could pack this much quality of construction, material and great sound in what I consider to be a very inexpensive guitar. It's hard to see in the photos but there is nice light mahogany purfiling around the front and back edges of the instrument. It's a classy touch for a guitar under $400 bucks. This guitar is an absolute steal at this price and it would be rather difficult to find more guitar for your money on a new all mahogany acoustic. This Yamaha FG850 is a fantastic guitar at any price.
I found myself out of town and craving a guitar. As I have several at home, I didn't want to spend much. The GC in Huntsville, AL wasn't heavily stocked but of the sub-$400 guitars on hand, this is the one I liked most. Solid playability. The neck is on the thin side and the fingerboard moves well enough. On the one I got, the fret ends are a little sharp from about the 8th fret up. You'd be hard pressed do better for the money. It sounds good, with even volume from high to low and the low is satisfying, not at all thin. The body depth is a little less than that of an average dreadnaught. The one I got looks great as well. This is a solid option for a beginner, a travel guitar or just adding some variety to your collection.
Overall:Exactly what I said. I've been buying quite a few guitars online recently. A few just under $1000. I already have a nice collection of guitars. Some in the $2000.00+ range. I bought this guitar to take out on the road with me or to bring to parties, bbq's, camping, etc... Boy was I ever surprised when I took this out of the box and started playing it. The sound, the feel and the action were just excellent. It even looks great and no messy glue on the inside either. Everything is neat and tidy. This FG800 really surprised the heck out of me.I can honestly say it stands right up to some of my more expensive acoustics. Not 100% of course, but for the price it comes very close. Like I mentioned earlier in this review I purchased guitars just under a grand and unfortunately had to return some of them due to some overlooked quality control issues. Not so with this FG800. Whatever Yamaha is doing they're doing right. If you're looking for a nice sounding, playing dreadnought guitar that won't break the bank this is definitely the one. Spending more money doesn't always mean it's better.
When the guitar arrived, I was not disappointed. The "sandburst" finish was fantastic--satin on the body, matte on the neck, which made playing a breeze. The fret work has no issues. The only change I will make is to have a tech file the nut grooves so the action is easier on the first fret; this is not uncommon with new guitars from any manufacturer. Other than that, the guitar is ideal. The bass response makes my fillings rattle (in a good way) and this guitar is loud when I need it to be. An important factor is this FG800 comes with a solid top spruce--this can't be emphasized enough. With laminate tops, you might get lucky with a decent tone, but the odds will be against you. A solid top will bring you closer to the sound you want.I don't believe in "beginner" ... MoreWhen the guitar arrived, I was not disappointed. If you're a guitar player, you'll know what you want. The FG800 passes for a quality guitar that will last your lifetime and that of the person you might bequeath it to.
I chose this model because of the flame maple back, which gives a slightly brighter tone. The sound is still warm and full, but cuts through in a pleasing way.The guitar is immaculate. I have never owned a Yamaha acoustic guitar before, but the reports of high quality from the build to the finsh are all true. A very nice guitar.
