I buy and sell guitars as a hobby. I probably buy/sell 60 guitars a year. Trust me, thus guitar is one of the best I've played. Sure, I've played some that are a bit richer or little more complex but this is a superior value for your hard earned cash.I originally ordered the FGX5, but after waiting two months (and being told, it could be another 3 months), I changed my order to an FGX3 (MF had in stock). I was worried about differences in quality, as the FGX5 is built in Japan and the FGX3 in China. There are some hardware differences: The FGX5 has a Bone Nut and Saddle, Ebony Bridge Pins (the FGX3 has plastic), a textured Pickguard and a Hard-shell Case (FGX3 comes with a flat black Pickguard and a rather study Hybrid type of case. Other than that, they are the same. Even the electronics are identical.A friend owns the FGX5 (which is why I wanted one, after playing his). So, I had a good comparison opportunity (both stock). Both had new (one week old) Elixir 80/20 Bronze .12's. The FGX5 was noticeably brighter and had slightly more volume and warmth. He has over a year of playing on his and he says it has improved, over time.I upgraded the Saddle to Bone and installed Ebony Bridge Pins (I left the Nut alone). Well, after three months of hard playing (and the upgrades), I did a new comparison. Installed new Elixirs (same as before) on both guitars. This time, almost no noticeable difference! His still had a VERY slight edge in sound quality (just a little more projection) but it was negligible. The biggest difference, was in the finish. The FGX5, definitely has a nicer top coat. The FGX3, has a slight hazy/milky look to it. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this guitar and I doubt, I will ever sell it!

I have had this guitar for a few weeks now. It is a keeper. Acoustically, it just has a sound that I really like. Plugged in, I think it is one of the best factory installed pick ups I have ever heard. I actually like this guitar better than the Martin D-18 that I sold recently. It seems to have more volume than the Martin and it just has a shimmering tone to it that I didn't hear in the Martin. I guess if you have to have the Martin logo on the headstock then get the Martin. If you were blindfolded and handed this guitar and a Martin D-18, I think you might be surprised which one you liked the best.

This is my favorite guitar ever
31 October 2020

Ok. So I have been playing acoustic guitar and singing semi-professionally for 30 years. Churches, bars, small to medium sized venues. I am currently a church worship music leader and do a lot of recording as a hobby. I have owned too many guitars to count (and sold them all thanks to divorce lol). I was looking for a high end acoustic to depend on as my main instrument, with a budget of no more than $1750. Of course I was comparing Martins, Gibsons, Taylors and the like. I was very happy with a lower end Yamaha 800 series as a "beater," so I started looking at Yamaha's higher end options. When I found this guitar online, it had all I was looking for, but I did not have access to an actual physical example. I have never bought a guitar sight unseen, and I was ... MoreOk. When I found this guitar online, it had all I was looking for, but I did not have access to an actual physical example. I have never bought a guitar sight unseen, and I was nervous to do so, but the combination of my respect for the 800 series acoustically and the description of the new Atmosfeel system made this my first choice. I took the risk and ordered it, and I could not be happier. To my ears (subjective I know) it is the best sounding acoustic I've ever played, both unplugged and plugged in. With its mahogany body it is midrange heavy, but not to the detriment of the lows or highs. It has plenty of all three and is pleasantly balanced. It has lots of volume. When I record acoustically into a mic it makes me very happy :-). Plugged into my church sound system or into my fishman loudbox mini, it is also wonderful. It is the most "acoustic" sounding guitar I've ever heard when amplified, and sounds almost exactly the same as when unplugged. The neck is great. I love the tuners. The action may be just slightly high out of the box for some tastes, but I like it as is. It is finger picking friendly, but not so low that it buzzes when strummed aggressively. I've made no changes to the setup yet and may never. I have been playing it nearly every day now for a couple of months, and it is my favorite guitar I have ever owned.
