Yamaha Genos 2 - Arranger Workstation | Turramurra Music

I've been producing rock and metal for 20+ years. Starting with very minimal gear. I mixed for years on a pair of Kody's headphones and did very well. But, I had been wondering if getting real studio monitors would improve my mix quality even more.The first thing I did when receiving these speakers was give them a good look over. I noticed the 8" woofer has great potential for generating low end. I then set the speakers up in a large room where I was 10 feet away from any wall and set up a mic and ran some white noise as well as a tone sweeper through the speakers, analyzing the result on my computer screen. The result was that these speakers were almost perfectly flat through the entire listening spectrum.I then placed an audio cd and was blown away by how loud they got, how clear they sounded, and I was still getting ground shaking bass.Mixing with these has been showing me new results to changes I make in EQ and dynamic settings. I hear more change with less use of EQ and dynamics. I hear mods much better and don't have to think about if I'm overcompensating with the EQ. I've been getting really great results that translate will across the board.I really like how these have been working out. So much that I went ahead and bought the HS8S to compliment these speakers so I can continue to add to my horizon of mixing quality.

I hated the piano voices (very important to me), and the keybed hurt my body, because the keys were shallow and hit bottom. But once I sold the Genos, I missed the delicious sounds -- especially the acoustic instruments, and so when the G2 came out, I thought I would try again. I realized that some of the body pain came from pushing the buttons, not just the keys, and I learned how to use Registration banks and the touch screen to minimize the button pushing and I learned to play more lightly. But overall, I love this keyboard because of the sounds and my ability to play solo gigs with customizable backgrounds or beautiful combinations of instruments that I can control with the levers and faders. I'm spending more time learning how to use it -- such as using fingering in the bass not the default setting, which allows me to play the bass melodically without changing chords constantly while using the styles. I am editing styles to my taste and will do more with that as I become more proficient. And I'm learning more and more of the technology. I am a pianist, and it's hard for me to transition to a machine, but my piano is not portable, and this is. And it allows me different kinds of expression. It satisfies another aspect of me as a musician, not just as a pianist, both playing at home and at concerts. It enables me to produce incredibly beautiful sounds and perform live with it. And I'm getting more used to the action and playing it more expressively. (There's a setting for that too.) If you have a passion for self-expression and have the patience to learn how to use the keyboard in more than the most superficial way, you might love the Genos2 also, both for your own use and for performing. Also there are tutorials and forums, so you are not alone with the technology. I found the psr tutorial forum very helpful, with people who support you with answers to technical questions.

The Yamaha GENOS 2 is a huge improvement on the previous Genos with a more expansive sound down to the professional reverb system throughout the voices and drums/styles department. The displays have been made easier to read and the sliders and rotary control knobs now feature leds which clearly shows the current values plus Yamaha have prevented any sudden changes in volume levels when adjusting the levels.I'm glad I waited for the GENOS 2, well done Yamaha for designing a most user friendly keyboard it was well worth the wait!
