Yamaha HPH MT8 Studio Monitor Headphones (Black)

Excellent headphones. I bought for the use in a home Amp setup. Mainly for the purpose of listening to a broad range of music and occasional movies, TV and gaming. The sound quality is excellent. They are loud and have great clarity in the mid and high range. The bass is a bit lacking at times but when listening to music that is bass heavy they do produce alright. Very well made headphones, they look awesome and are comfy for hours of wearing. Only complaint is the headband could have had slightly thicker padding as that is the one place I get a bit of pressure on me after many hours though. The storage bag and two cables are very good as well.

Amazing sound and comfort

While I've known Yamaha for producing amazing audio products (guitars, mixers, etc) I have always used Sony or Beyer headphones.When my last headphones got destroyed I thought I'd give these a whirl. Comfortable, well built and a very rich sound.

Excellent Headphones

Unlike most headphones that are pre tuned to make all music sound the same these can reveal what a recording really sounds like. Except on Spotify. However even on Spotify you can reveal instruments you couldn’t hear or hear well. They are comfortable but could be more comfortable in my opinion so 4 stars instead of 5

Great sound, durability questionable

For its relatively affordable price tag, I really liked the quality of sound and noise isolation. It's not fatiguing to wear for long hours. However, after 15 months of studio use, it started developing a noise loop, a few months out of warranty. I could not solve it by switching wires, so it would be somewhere inside the headphones. I don't regret buying it at all, but I wish it lasted longer.

MT5 vs. MT8.

I have both. Be aware the MT8, while more nuanced and solid, with somewhat better build, but is MUCH heavier, the upper limit of what I want on my head at 350 grams, the same weight as some gigantic Audio Technica ATH900's I have from years ago - without the large earpads that make that pair work. For casual listening and monitoring the MT5's are fine, one-third less weight and less pressure on the side of the head. Prefer them to Sony 7506, which fell apart and buzzed after a couple of years. Both Yamaha's are enjoyable, don't hesitate to order, but skip the MT8 unless you can handle the weight.

Quite a bit better than I was expecting

I'm using these cans for comparison with my main speakers which are Dali Euphonia MS5's driven by Avantone Pro CLA-400. These HPH-MT8's are being driven by a Yamaha MG10 mixer. At first listen not yet run in with zero hours on them, the HPH-MT8 sounded very good to excellent albeit somewhat tight in terms of soundstage and dynamics. After several hours over the course of about a week or two, the soundstage really opened up and the dynamics are now rather astonishing! I wasn't really prepared or even expecting them to sound as food as they do, but I am happy to say I have zero buyers remorse. I can now highly recommend them without hesitation especially because they sound almost as good as my MS5's; and that's saying a lot!

Sound great, but too heavy

These are too heavy for comfortable use in my opinion. I also own the MT5 model from Yamaha which is much lighter and sounds almost as good, arguably the best at it's price level. For a few more bucks over the MT8, you can get the new Beyerdynamic 700 Pro X - those would be my first choice for studio monitors.

The best monitor headphones available

Over the past years I have mostly had Senheiser headphones, then AKG then to KRK 8400s on the last pair. As the headphone served me for quite a few years before going defective I decided to try the Yamaha'sGlad i did, it's just made me realise I have been missing a true monitor headphone like these. The flat true response they give and enabling you to hear all the details in your song is just amazing.Based on how good these are I will buying some Yamaha Monitors as well.

The search is over

I went through a lot of headphones to get to these, and I'm so glad that I never settled because these are the ones for me! My search began when I hadn't bought a new pair of cans for years, and my old Audio-Technicas finally gave out. I started with the ATH-M50s, an updated model of the ones I had, and didn't like them - felt tight and my ears felt like they were in a well - something changed over the years I guess. Then tried the Beyerdynamic DT 770s which were highly recommended, sounded way bright to my ears and felt tight, heavy, bulky and uncomfortable. For tracking music, I don't need some space-age looking gear with a hundred doo-hickeys tacked on all over - I just want a simple pair of black cans that are as small and lightweight as possible. Once I saw these Yamahas I knew I found something I might be able to wrap my head around (or wrap around my head :).Pros: They are lightweight, minimally designed, and comfortable to wear.They sound great - not hyped at all to my ears, no high end sheen, about as honest of a playback as you can getThey are Yamahas! And anyone who knows Yamaha gear knows that they build to the highest quality at any given price point - you get every dollar you spend with Yamaha equipment.Cons: The cord comes wrapped up in very small bunches as expected, but I find that it is hard to retrain the cord to go straight - wish they would roll it in a circle or something so it wouldn't be prone to crunching up.Over long periods of time they can get a little uncomfortable, maybe could be a tad less tight and a tad lighter, but that may not be possible and eveyone's head is shaped different, so it's something I can live with - definitely the most comfortable pair of cans I've had.Overall: Highly recommend these over more recommended brands
