I have had these monitors for about two weeks now and I must say that they are perfect for my environment. I have my crossover between the HS5's and HS8S set at approximately 85hz. This relieves the HS5's from getting anywhere hear their 54hz bottom end so they can operate a bit more efficiently and play louder cleanly; and the HS8S produces well defined lows that are very impressive down to 22hz. For me, this is ideal because I use a lot of synth's in my music as well as 5-string basses. From a frequency perspective, this fill all of my needs with powerful, clean well defined sound even at low volumes.I am thinking about buying another set so I can do a surround sound setup.

These are my 5th set of studio monitors. They are very transparent and great bass response. I like the lighted Yamaha emblem. It lets me know that they are on without looking at the back of the monitors. I also like the price. Great for small home studio. Enough power. I bought them two months ago. I am very happy with them and meets my expectations. The black set looks very clean. Great build quality.

Before this I had M Audio BX5A's and I got to admit this one is a no BS solution. They are clear and perfect for my bedroom studio setup. I am using these with the subwoofer which also gave the setup a boost, I never invested in the sub before and it makes a world of difference. I would've initially gone for 8's instead of 5's but due to my current use case the 5's work great. Do yourself a favor and get these! I must mention that I wanted the white ones but this whole covid thing had everything on back-order and I had to switch to black in order to get them now instead of months in the future.

These studio montiors are amazing! For me atleast lol. My first pair ive ever had but after much review and contemplation for my first monitors, I bought them. I knew they would be perfect for me, but i was more than happy on this investment. Great to have for studio quality sound in a small to medium environment whether producing music or just listening to it at the next level these are the ones. Plus there was a rebate going on so it only made sense to get the best rated monitors for a deal, BRAND NEW at that. Guitar center even sent me two brand new ones wrapped in the box with all the manuals and cords. Overall great purchase and experience. I have heard of people getting opened or display monitors. I’m using a pair of these as keyboard monitors for a Stage 3 to supplement a pair of AKG reference headphonesAmazed at the bass clarity and excellent stereo imaging. They came with consecutive serial numbers which was very reassuring. Because of my setup I had to buy some 1m stands to get the tweeters at ear height and then the detail is excellent. Compared to the dearer version they don’t have mounting points or phase reverse but I can live without those. I tried both inputs, 6.3mm jack and balanced XLR, probably my imagination but the XLR seemed brighter, but only very marginally, and probably just my imagination. The manual recommends turning them off at the mains even if you have them switched off on the monitor, as they supposedly still draw a little bit of ... MoreI’m using a pair of these as keyboard monitors for a Stage 3 to supplement a pair of AKG reference headphonesAmazed at the bass clarity and excellent stereo imaging. The Yamaha logo illuminates when they are on so it’s easy to remember. If I could change anything I would have the bass port out front
Brilliant budget active studio monitors. It's important to set the switches on the back regarding the placement.Hook them up with balanced XLR cables if you can.Massive difference in sound when they are mounted on proper isolated speaker stands, floor standing or on a desk.Highly recommended !
Like most Yamaha gear, build and sound quality is excellent. Has made me much better at mixing due to lovely flat frequency response. Also, highly recommend this model if you're mixing in a less-than-ideal space. It's a good size, big but not ridiculous, the HS7s for my room would've been overkill! If you're mixing rock/pop stuff (ie not big bassy electronic music) they're just the ticket. Also 2 for £270 is the best price I've seen on any site so very kind on the ol' wallet too.
Great sound! Great product! Wish there was a Bluetooth feature, so I could also play casual music from my phone- beyond my studio equipment. But that would probably raise the price $100. Nonetheless, loving them so far. Very balanced and clear sound. Love the logo that lights up. Its a simple feature. Im glad when a product doesnt shove their name in your face, it makes it fitting for any aesthetic.
I have been trying to get a pair of Yamaha monitors since the 80's but just never seemed to have the finances available when the speakers were. Finally found that I needed a good pair of monitors for a few sessions I was doing in the field, and thought that these would be a great addition to my field recording kit. And indeed they are. They fit in a small bin, are plenty durable, just the right weight and sound great. I highly recommend them. They will soon occupy an important place in my soon-to-be-built studio.
Had these for a few years. Sound quality and appearance is great, but a very annoying buzz drove me absolutely crazy. I'm almost certain the buzz is due to poor shielding from EMI: it occurs when no inputs are connected; occurs in unison in both units; modulates in weird rhythms like a digital signal; occurs more during the day than at night, and stops if i drape tin foil over the speaker (faraday cage). This may not be audible for all users: I live in a dense urban area (tons of radio signals), the buzzing is pretty low-level, but i have these positioned pretty close to my sitting position.
