Absolutely love this sub, I had a pair of the HS8s, the speakers alone are excellent quality but the addition of the HS8S Sub was a perfect addition to the speakers. The sound is clean, powerful and a complete and full sound.Would recommend this to anybody with the HS8 speakers. I also used it to DJ in a medium sized room, the bass was solid, consistent and added a lot of depth.

I thought my JVC and Technics Hifis gave excellent sound reproduction - thing is, they do, but the HS8'S along with the HS8S is on a completely different level !!!The theme from Oblivion - Holy Sh !!! 😍- the sound from this speaker combination is clear, crisp and needs to be heard and felt 👌

Dont buy this sub if you need to ref 808's or heavy bass

I deal in bass heavy music with 808's. By the time you cut this sub up to 12oclock on the volume its past breaking up and cracking in sound. The first time I heard it cracking I thought I blowed my speaker. I went and paid for another speaker and installed it and same thing happened. I went back to store and played the same mix on the sub in the store and the same thing happened. I have ruled this sub is not designed for bass heavy music and should take off the the spec sheet that is replicates frequencies at down to 20hz. It cracks at low frequencies and is annoying. I feel ripped off. The matching HS8's I have sound great although people talk down on them

Great deal, wonderful addition to my studio.

This purchase was several years in the making. I have a home studio, a pair of (old) Mackie HR624's (just picked up 2 more used in mint condition) because I want to build a surround environment. I read lots of opinions on people strongly advising against adding a sub because of inaccuracies in mixing, etc. When you are mixing you need to take a number of things in account AND have to create several mixes with those things in mind. What it all boils down to is, even if this adds more complexities to my mixing it was the best investment I've made in years. The pleasure of hearing and experiencing sonorous lows for anything from club music to film scoring is simply lovely. Lastly, I was concerned that I wasn't matching the HS8S with the Mackies. That I should replace my good ol' reliable 624's. Concern is GONE! My research paid off and I'm a happy camper.

Insane
25 January 2024

I ordered a full Yamaha HS8 setup and have been incredibly impressed. I have two of these HS8 monitors and 1 of the HS8S (matching subwoofers).Together these bring insanely high-quality studio sound to my setup. The speakers fit great on the side of my desk (I have a larger 80x30 desk), and the sound quality is fantastic.I highly recommend it!

Now I can mix without having to preview the songs in my car
26 April 2017

I already had some decent powered studio monitors - the BX5a by M-Audio. But when I mixed songs where the bass sounded good on the M-Audio monitors, it was too boomy in other locations such as my home stereo or my car's speaker system. I always knew the answer was to buy a subwoofer. The HS8S was just what I needed. For those who might be wondering, the 1/4 TRS inputs will work fine with a normal computer sound card. Just buy a 3.5mm stereo to 1/4" L & R 'y' cable, such as the CMP-159 sold here on Musicians Friend. Yeah, the '-' signal will be grounded, which just means you'll probably not have as good of a signal-to-noise ratio. Perfect Match - fills in the missing bass!
8 November 2015

I bought the 2 high frequency monitors first. To me something was missing.Things to consider:1. The sub woofer reproduces 20 to 140 Hz reasonably flatly. So what lives there - 20 Hz to 40 Hz one octave, 40 Hz to 80 Hz second octave, 80 Hz to 160 Hz third octave - most instruments only cover 3 octaves. Meaning the bass was mostly missing. Additionally a lot of other real instruments which are not bass note front ends include a component in this range, color.2. When a speaker cone has low frequency waves it must move great distances to couple with the air to reproduce. If higher frequencies share this cone they suffer doppler shifting ( like a car passing) this causes a warble making for muddy sounds.3. The low frequency waves are very long, 50 feet plus, coupling to air with this small of a speaker is a trick, notice the speaker works against the floor this changes the coupling and strips any remaining high frequency off.4. All factory balanced crossover filters are in this subwoofer.5. Even at low volume the sound is tight and full bodied - I believe all systems should include a frequency balanced sub woofer, but then I am an engineer.6. If a demo system adds a subwoofer without a crossover in place, don't expect that the sound is representative of a proper system as it will be heavily colored by doppler shifting and be funny sounding.

Quality Sub
4 April 2024

Went in to buy a subwoofer to complete my studio. I was instantly helped out by a guy in the audio department and had a chat regarding some headphones I was in the market for. After the purchase he helped me get the sub in my car. In and out with no hassle. Everyone is friendly and informative. Great customer service!

Till the end of time

I drive an 18-wheeler. This sub literally changed my life on the road. I can finish what I'm working on without concern. No more longing to get to the studio as my Mobile Studio has exclusively taken first place and the final stop. The sound deadening materials and acoustic qualities of my cabin makes for stellar vocal tracking and music mixing. The awesome DAWs available on ios with iPad Pro is just the beginning of endless creative possibilities. This sub just brings it all home and shows you everything...I MEAN EVERYTHING! Yummy!!

Worth it

Simply Fantastic!! I have owned pairs of KRK rokit 5, yamaha hs7, and currently own yamaha hs8 (now an hs8s) for monitoring and mixing. The hs8 has a great flat response by itself, the best IMO of the others, and doesnt really need a sub in most applications. If you like bass heavy, dance, or hiphop music... just get the sub! You wont regret it, it allows for an even more balanced sound by letting the mains stay punchy and the sub boom. The sub is punchy and accurate, does not have the rumbling unless your room is too small, its up too loud for your room, etc. If so, just add room treatment foam or turn it down. The sub adds a full body sound that the monitors were lacking and I didnt even realize. The primary area I notice is in the lowest harmonics of kick drums ... MoreSimply Fantastic!! Its by no means a need, but I enjoy the sound while monitoring so much more now. It has the ability to adjust level for accuracy in mixing purposes also. One of my favorite purchases. I used to feel like my home setup was lacking in fun, but was accurate. Now I have the best of both worlds. :-)
