I use the mx61in the studio as a controller for my vst's and as a daw controller. I also use some of internal sounds in the studio. I use it live as my main board and a sound card for my pc. The mx61 is a versatile keyboard with some great tricks up its sleeve. The pianos and e.p.'s are top notch as well as the other sounds but those are what I use the most. The ability to use the arp when using it as a controller is cool. Few things I don't like, you will know its an entry level board. Its lightweight which is cool but this means all plastic construction. The plastic is a bit creaky. I don't think it will break unless you abuse it. The other thing is it seems like the output is not as loud as it should be. I would say if you are a mainly studio guy or if this will not be the main board in your rig save the $200.if you need this as the main board for live playing you will need the 61. I had to pay the extra for one more octave but overall I'm satisfied. I would def recommend to anyone that loves Yamaha as much as me but doesn't need the sequencer. I didn't talk about the arps and layered drum stuff because its an unnecessary feature for me but may be useful for someone. Overall its a great little board.

Best live performance kb for the money Fantastic Yamaha Motif sounds in a 10lb package. The interface is a little hard to navigate so I'd recommend an iPad or something to switch patches in a live setting. Still, it plays and sounds great and with a laptop/software you can do a fair amount of tweaking of the patches.

I actually purchased 2 of these - one "Level 2" blemished and one "Level 3" scratch and dent. The level 2 arrived in perfect condition with large holes in the box from what I assume was the original purchase that was returned to sender. They keyboard inside was untouched, however.The scratch and dent one is an even bigger bargain. It arrived without manuals, wrapped in bubble wrap in a plain brown cardoard box. The keyboard itself looks and works great. It had clearly been touched before, but I could find no scratches, dents, or other indications of abuse. Bargain.
I decided to take a chance on the "Condition 2 blemished" open box version and am glad I did. Obviously each one is different, but the one I got was clearly returned due to visible box damage during shipping to the initial recipient. There were return tags applied and it had clearly never been opened. The damage to the box didn't reflect on the product (or even the keyboard wrapping) inside as the unit itself arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. Great way to save some $$. They apparently don't double-box these like most of the larger products I receive - apparently it's cheaper for them to discount than buy outer boxes for all of them! Good luck!
Really great keyboard, fantastic for beginners and experts alike. Tons of different sounds available and can connect it to your computer via MIDI or USB. Connect pedals, headphones, speakers, and a variety of other things to it to make it how you want. Would recommend!

Recently sold my Juno D to a good friend because he needed an aux board and I was no longer heavily gigging. Anyway I had my eye on the korg x50 because of the triton sounds..I've sold all those other boards and currently play a yamaha motif xf8. So I felt pretty ok with sounds and really was shopping for something to replace my juno d which was pretty good except for the piano sounds...so like I was saying I really wanted the korg x50 but couldn't find a great deal on one. If you get this mx61 or any of the mx line...you essentially own $2000 to $3000 sounds that you can go setup at a gig in less than 10 minutes and sound just as good. Its very easy to navigate and just the best $425 I've spent on a keyboard. I can't see trading this in ever. I've midi in my electric drum kit and it can share the motif drums...this thing is freakin awesome. I mean its not a sequencer, but it also isn't advertised to be one. Albeit you can connect it to your computer or laptop and use the free software or your own and sequence all you want. Thanks Yamaha!

It's been just over a year since it was delivered to my local music shop.I had an old digital 88 key console keyboard with fully weighted keys that died about a year earlier and I was looking for a keyboard/synth to replace it.I considered keyboard controllers coupled with software and keyboard/synths and determined for my casual use, the MX-61 was as near perfect a match for me. I especially was looking to get away from the fully weighted piano-like keys from my old deceased digital piano.The voices, the arpeggio options, the built-in performances all contribute to a great starting point.
