Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20 - Hot Merlot
With two available pickup configurations, 5-way switching, and the Focus Switch passive boost, the new Revstar Standard is all about versatility. The RSS20 features six finish options, a chambered body and carbon-reinforced neck, dual humbucking pickups, 5-way switching, and a passive Focus Switch, providing exceptional versatility. Revstar Standard guitars feature chambered bodies designed to sculpt tone and reduce weight, with carbon reinforcement in the neck to improve vibration transfer. With the same 5-way switching as Revstar Professional, the subtle phase shift on positions 2 and 4 offers a fresh take on classic “in-between” sounds. The push/pull Tone control activates a passive boost with an effect similar to overwound pickups—darker highs, increased mids and lows, and an aggressive character. RSS20 and RSS20L feature humbuckers, and RSS02T offers P90-style single-coils. All pickups are custom designed by Yamaha and use Alnico V magnets for powerful tone.

I love it, the fit and finish are perfect and it played great straight out of the box. I got it set up the way I like, (Blackguitars did an excellent job at that) and now I can’t put it down, a huge step up from the previous Revstar models, I already have two and they are both brilliant instruments.I can’t recommend this guitar highly enough, I will definitely be getting the P90 version.Top marks Yamaha.

I bought this product after looking at many reviews on the Yamaha revstar rangeThe quality is top notchThe sound is great tooI must admit being used to fender & Gibson the Yamaha for me does take some getting used to but that's because it's modern & Yamaha are trying to push the envelope and keeping things freshI'm not a professional player but I do appreciate qualityI decided the standard was more than adequate compared to the professional a saving of ÂŁ900I'm not disappointed & the gig bag instead of hard case is lovely qualityIt's also not cumbersome eitherWell pleased for money & qualityWould recommendSuperb value & quality less than ÂŁ700

The Revstar Standard RSS20 seems incredibly well made for a guitar in this price bracket and looks wonderful.Out of the box I needed to lower the action slightly which was easy to do. The satin neck makes it easy to slide your hand along the fretboard. The frets are smoothly rounded and the binding flawless. There is a wide range of sounds you can pull from the pickups using the 5-way switch and the "focus' switch - and I am really enjoying exploring them. I reckon you can pretty much find everything you need unless you're a tone purist. This goes straight to my first choice guitar for gigging as it has all the qualities of a real workhorse with the looks of a thoroughbred.

Typical Yamaha - sensibly designed, well-built, stylish, and affordable. The instrument is easy to adjust, and the pickups sound excellent and are very versatile. The only slight negative for me is that the Revstar weighs a little bit more than I expected it to (for a chambered guitar). However, it does sound all the better for it, and unlike a Gibson Les Paul the body and neck/headstock are balanced.
Looks good, frets could be better, got some sharp edges around 12fret on wards, dont like the bridge ajustment looks like its missing barrels as screws just float out of body? Intenations good, sounds great, plays good, looks good, just little things that ley it down other wise would have given 5 stars
This is an amazing guitar at a terrific price point. It's very similar to my Les Paul in some ways (# of frets, scale length, woods, nut width) but it has features to set it apart as well. Even the neck radius is close. What sets it apart are the pickups, price and electronics. I prefer these pickups over the Gibson BB Pros; I'd say they're more similar to the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF set. They sound amazing and the Dry Switch really works to get close to a single coil sound without splitting the coils, which means no buzz. The price is what amazes me the most. This guitar costs well under half the price of a LP Standard. The only improvement I would suggest is locking tuners although the stock tuners feel really good.
This guitar is better than I expected, and I know from experience that Yamaha guitars are always excellent. This has is a five position pickup switch; not three, with positions 2 and 4 present that take on “in-between” tones by slightly delaying the opposite pickup.
I was once a musician who played shows all over but anymore I play at home. This guitar is perfect anywhere and everything. Can't be beat period. You won't regret buying this guitar. Reminds me of a cross between a Gibson Les Paul and Gibson SG but better. Goes to show you don't need to spend $$$$$ just for a guitar that has a certain brand stamped on the headstock. As we've found out in the years recently some of those brands are pushing out less than stellar guitars and selling just because of the name on the headstock. I own Fender's, Reverend's, Ibanez, Taylor acoustics and more and this is at the top.
Stunning guitar, beautiful neck. The alnico 5 humbuckers are phenomenal, such tone variation with the dry cut low end roll off! Set up to play straight out of the box. Great service from PMT guys Matt and Simon. All in, a great guitar buying experience.
the revstar II had been on back order for more than a year at sweetwater. so when they came in ( i see they are sold out again!) i jumped on it. Box arrived on time and had no issues or damages. Tuned the guitar up a little and it everything works great. Not much case candy from yamaha but no big deal. Soft case is ok, pretty standard. Manual is a little lacking for a novice like me but again, no big deal.
